ParticipantSame here, nada. I’d love to photograph some of the ancient screw machines in the plant where I’m working but I don’t think they would like me hauling a camera around inside an aerospace supplier. I do have a home office, but it has been a couple weeks since I’ve been there.

ParticipantThanks, Elsinore and CISS. I agree ennuipoet, but also pets are easy subjects that rarely complain about having their photos taken. Plus most of us that have pets are very attached to them. Following that idea there could be contests about your car (or transportation), your parents/grandparents, your street, your toilet, etc. and I imagine lots of people would enter.

ParticipantI wasn’t sure about using my friend’s horse’s photo since it is pretty much his pet, so I didn’t use it. It’s one of my favorite photos and thus an A side for me:

popsAnd some B-Sides: Nigel in the snow, another horse, Brizo portrait, and Nigel in the snow again. Nigel is our puppy after Diesel (another Mini Schnauzer) passed away in November. Brizo is our four year old girl.

ParticipantI’m not sure how that type of photography works, but if I were shooting for a client I don’t think that I would show them most of those. Keep in mind I’ve never had a client nor done anything professionally. Some have bad expressions and others seem to have bad angles that make her legs look huge. Unless the goal was to make her look as bad as possible, then they have successfully done that.

ParticipantThe white “Cowboy Car” that I submitted was just plain old ridiculous. Here are two photos of the entire car:

ParticipantI have an insane work schedule right now and had to dig for this one. While digging I realized that I rarely shoot at night. I should change that, maybe a New Year’s resolution in the works.

ParticipantI can do it. They changed the posting thing though and it threw me for a loop for a minute until I found the Raw HTML button.

ParticipantI will echo the last two wishes, a 600mm lens and a time/weather to go out and use what I have. I prefer mild temperatures, but snow is also O.K. It seems that every day I have had any time off it has been in the 30s or 40s and rainy which I don’t like.

ParticipantI’ve been looking at making something like that out of some old linear bearings I have out in the garage but I haven’t gotten around to it. I wanted to put a ball head on it, or mount it to a ball head, and add a lead screw with an ultra-fine pitch to try to do focus stacking macros. Or just for regular macros, when the DoF is so thin it would be nice to be able to get the camera adjusted perfectly parallel to the subject and at the correct distance.

Participantswampa, I don’t know what it is, but there were a bunch of people around and I cut off the legs. I can’t remember his name or even the gallery that was displaying his work, but it was in Milan. He is/was a Swiss sculptor and I really liked all of his pieces. I don’t think that they allowed cameras inside.
The fairy was in this guy’s hand. He is big, probably 15 feet tall.
Edit: I found a Google Street View photo of the whole statue: http://goo.gl/maps/HvTlj Too bad it doesn’t show the name of that gallery.
Second Edit: His name is Nag Arnoldi. You can see some things here.

Participantswampa, Wellington is tops!
Here are some B’s: Kiss My As Milan, Ball 1, Ready for some hoops, Enlightenment, my favorite statue, but not a good photo, top of the Duomo in Milan again, Horse Man, and Fairy.bender16v
ParticipantI’m finally home. As soon as I got back from out west I had to leave for Thanksgiving! 5,108 miles in the trip out west. chupathingie and CauseISaidSo, I appreciate the offers to meet up but I was in a hurry to get home. My wife called me and our 10 y.o. dog got really sick. After a night at the vet’s he was gone in the morning. I will definitely be back out there someday. Also it was great to meet Yoyo out there. There are an incredible amount of things to see out there!
I’m still processing photos and I’ll post some here when I get done.

ParticipantI’ve been away for a while and I think that I forgot to enable voting on my second one, would you kindly check that Elsinore?
I had a lot of choices for this one, almost all from the past few weeks. Badlands in AZ, more Badlands in AZ, even more Badlands, Sunrise at Bryce, Bryce, more Bryce, Delicate Arch (almost used this one), 10 sec. exposure at Bryce, just a park near home, Garbage Landscape near home, and finally Bryce.

ParticipantUnfortunately I am real. It was great to meet you and I apologize for how busy we were on Monday. Yesterday wasn’t as bad and I imagine that today will be pretty slow. Getting there an hour early to open up, staying late to close up, then late dinners make for really small amounts of sleep at these shows. Have you made any good contacts here?
Chupathingie, that was my first time seeing the Grand Canyon. You are correct that no photograph that I have seen can properly convey the size of it. There was some snow when I was there but it was very light and just made everything look hazy. I’ll try to get some photos posted this evening.

ParticipantI sent you a PM, but if you didn’t get it swing by our booth in Tube and Pipe in the Central Hall C1828 for Crippa and ask for Chris. I’m headed back in there now to try to finish getting ready for tomorrow.
The trip has been crazy with about every moment spent working or traveling. I’ll post some photos as soon as I get a chance to look through them. I drove to the Grand Canyon and back to Las Vegas yesterday which puts my total at 2,830 miles so far.
