Participantcaradoc, I have to clean the sensor about every week or two with a wet swab. Those kits are expensive and I’m tired of buying them and doing it. The spots are always with small apertures of f16 or less such as in these photos: Blob 1 and you can see the dirt/oil on the sensor and the blob in this one. The blobs don’t show up often but they really worry me more than the dirt.

ParticipantI’ve been super busy and just started to play with some images. This makes some really cool results! I have to try not to get sucked in or I’ll never get three to enter.

ParticipantI’m all of a sudden really considering a D600. My D7000 has had dirty sensor issues since it was new and I finally contacted Nikon about it and they said to send it in for service. From what I gather it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Also on top of the normal dirt dots on images I’ve had a few with a giant black blob show up, with two different lenses. I’m leaning towards the D600 but I just read about the AF coverage and looked it up; here’s and image. That coverage is tiny! I might still go that way anyhow, I wonder if that covers the same area as the D7000 in DX mode?
Edit: And like NBD said, the D800 is too much for me. I really don’t want to deal with files that big, it’s expensive, and the continuous shots per second is slow at 3.

ParticipantIt’s an interesting camera because the D800 is “only” $900 more. I’m not sure what I think about this, or if I’d like one or save a little more for a D800. I’ve been trolling craigslist for a used body to have around and the D700/D300 prices haven’t really come down much. The biggest one that I have seen come down is a new D7000 body for less than $1,000. I have a D7000 now and love it but would like to have a full frame for non-wildlife stuff.

ParticipantThat is pretty good stuff that he does. My friend does wet plate photography and the process scares me, it is so sensitive to every little detail. Here’s a condensed video he made of making one plate.

ParticipantI understand. I am always happy to have a new computer but dread the time it takes to install and transfer everything. About the only tip I have is to use http://www.ninite.com for installing all the usual stuff. It saves a lot of time since it bundles all the installers into one. Good luck and hopefully it takes less than a month.

ParticipantI’ve been drawing a blank and just now realized that I should have taken photos of the gold Assay in the mining museum I visited this week, doh! I have one idea but I’m not sure if I’ll have time to set up my lead melting pot.

ParticipantI rolled into Colorado Springs Monday night and there was a big storm. I tried for a while and only really caught one strike. I cropped my rental truck out since the 8mm fisheye catches more than I though.

ParticipantFairly recently I believe. This is from the NPR article about him:
I started the “Glamour & Headshots” photo series last year shortly after purchasing a light kit that was once used for school portraiture. I was told I probably couldn’t take any “cool” portraits with it, because of the limitations of the power pack. This made me curious about what I actually could do with it. So, I had one of my roommates come into my studio and sit for me, and it was hilarious. We had so much fun! … I started making up characters and back stories, and told my friends they were these people. …
http://www.npr.org/blogs/pictureshow/2010/03/glamour.htmlPretty funny and creative way to use the lighting kit.

ParticipantThanks Zero Exponent, I really liked your hallway and voted for it in my first round of going through the contest this morning.

ParticipantThe Scarlet R’s and extra photos are gone, daddy, gone.
For some reason I heard the xylophone in my head and kind of sang your post to myself.
One last B that I took last week specifically for this contest.bender16v
ParticipantI don’t feel like it really has a vanishing point, it just kind of crosses the horizon. It’s the Mackinac Bridge and at ~5 miles long it’s hard to get a good vantage point to capture it all from the north side. I think the ones I entered fit the theme a lot better now that I understand it.
I’d like to get some photos from on the bridge and it looks like this weekend might be the only time with the annual Bridge Walk. I was just up there last week though and I’m not sure I’ll have time to go back this weekend.bender16v
ParticipantO.K., I wasn’t quite sure so thanks for the clarification.
Here is one that I spend a bit of time on for this contest, but I don’t think that it fits now: 12 Gauge RiflingAnd some other B’s. Bridge, not quite at the correct angle and more RR tracks.

ParticipantI like all of those Pickerel, the first road one and the One Lane Bridge are my favorites. Of course the last one too.
I’d like an opinion if something like this has vanishing points or is just shallow DoF: Rotary Vanishing?
