I’m having a little trouble coming up with ideas for this one. I took some last week with this in mind, but upon further review I don’t think that they fit and are basically of a pattern with shallow DoF. I have one idea that might work and I’ll try to set it up today.

I’m not really sure. I’ll try next time without it and see how that looks. I went out this morning and found a hawk in the woods and I did -.7 and -1 but the situation was completely different since it was very shady and I even used a flash. I’m happy with underexposing since I don’t lose detail. Hawk

I’ll check into that. Hopefully I can get up early tomorrow and go for a walk in one of the local parks and find something. Thanks!

Yes, I just tried Recovery and the software says that it isn’t overexposed anymore but there still isn’t any detail in those areas. It just seems strange to me that it’s only with this lens combo that I’ve had this issue. It is very rare that I see bald eagles in the wild like that and I’m not happy that I screwed up, I guess I should have bracketed it. I’m trying to learn about nature photography I’m not even sure if I shouldn’t have tried using a flash to even out the light.

I’m envious of your trip. I’ve only been to Seattle once for a meeting before but didn’t get time to explore. Yesterday my flight home from SoCal was supposed to go through Atlanta but got delayed so I rebooked to connect through Portland back to Detroit. I was watching out the window most of the time since I don’t know that area and upon landing I decided that I need to schedule a trip there someday. So I’m really looking forward to seeing your photos from the trip.

Welcome, I’m still a little new here, as in about a year, but the weekly themes have helped me a ton. I can’t participate as much as I’d like but they really make me look at everything in a different way, tryig to imagine all of the possible subjects and ideas. Plus everybody here is genuinely nice and helpful. So stick around, I look forward to seeing your photos.

I like the photos, but I know what you mean. I have done one photo shoot ever and it was for my friend that wanted pictures of horses for the website of a barn where she works. I tried to do horse portraits because that’s what I thought they wanted, but they haven’t used any of the photos on their site and that was over two months ago. They didn’t tell me what they really wanted and when I asked beforehand and didn’t get a clear answer. I’m not sure what I could have done differently, but I do like taking photos of horses. Your DOF for the group shot looks good to me, not sure what else you could do.

What kind of bag do you have? I know I jam everything I’ve got in mine when I travel because I never know if I’ll be looking for wildlife, landscapes, or general stuff. My tripod is about the only thing that I usually don’t take when I travel, but I have a small one I have into my checked suitcase before. Traveling sometimes makes me want to get an 18-200 or a 28-300 so I can just take one lens.

Some sweet Porsches btw, that Dusenberg is awesome bender.

I stopped by the ACD museum last month for the first time even though I’ve driven by it a hundred times. The cars are very impressive and the original art deco showroom is beautifully preserved. It’s amazing what they did on the Auburn/Cord/Duesenburg cars so long ago like motorized headlights, 150+ MPH, advanced design studio, etc.

I can’t believe I didn’t use any VWs, not even my ’79 Scirocco. I’ve been really busy this week working on one of my newer ones though. Here are just a few b’s: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Those ‘boobs make for some great photos. I assume they are moving across the ground like a wall of dust or sand. What happens when they get on top of you? Does it get dark and sandblast your cars?

I concur, a lot of great photos. The dragonfly was my last choice and I almost didn’t use it. I really like the high speed flash photos and would like to work on those. Might I ask what is the trigger used for these type of photos? Sound?
Also I really like the style of sleeping’s photos.

1992 and “this old car” makes me feel old, that doesn’t seem too long ago. I might try to dig my old project car from the garage that I haven’t touched for years.

Happy Birthday and what a great gift. I have a 100mm f2.8 off-brand macro and it is my favorite lens. Like caradoc said, I use mine for macro sometimes but also for general stuff a lot too.
