That’s funny ’cause that was my thought a few minutes after posting that – “Crap, hope I didn’t just spoil the surprise of one of U-Man’s entries.” It wouldn’t have surprised me to see your version of it this week.
ParticipantSo I keep a folder of pix that I’ve stumbled across on the web that I’d like to reproduce/reinterpret someday (as I suspect many of you do) and since I’m not going to get a chance to do it myself, here’s one that would be perfect for this contest (maybe even U-Man competitive, if well executed).
From what I have managed to scrounge up, I’ve selected two. Anyone wanna offer an opinion as to which of these should be the third? TIA.

Nah, personally, I’ve just had a lot on my plate – website redesign and a whole bunch of various projects, and something had to slip. kat has been getting two books ready to publish (one went out the other week, the other later this month hopefully) so she’s been pretty tied up too.
I can emphasize with that. And congrats, kat!
Frankly, pics wouldn’t be able to cover the claustrophobic feeling of it. … CISS I almost used the exact shot you used for the U-Boat, except mine has different lighting.
And I remember Kes having one very similar, too. Now that would’ve been funny. And I know what you mean about the claustrophobic feeling. I actually actually rented Das Boot (which I never got around to seeing when it first came out) after getting back from that trip. If you haven’t seen it, watching it while knowing just how tight those quarters are is quite the experience.
ParticipantThat second one has that surreal HDR’d-to-heck-and-back look, so the fact that you say it’s mostly natural makes it really cool. What causes the brightness of the orange panes in that semicircular room on top? The orangeness is rigidly defined, so I assume that’s lighting coming from inside or those panes are orange themselves and painted with white light?

If you missed my other post, note that I redefined quarterly stats to cover 13 contests instead of 12 starting this week. There’s also a new ranking category of “Best Average NP”.
ParticipantThere’s finally a bit of light at the end of the tunnel work-wise, so I had some time tonight to make some changes.
Mar 31, 2012 – New Feature & Feature Change
- The definition of “Sliding Quarter” has been changed to be 13 instead of 12. The SQ is now truly 1/4th of the SY. SQ stats have been recalculated to reflect this change.
- Normalized Place: NP ranking and stats have been added for all entries and contestants, including a new “Sorted by NP” tab on the contestant page. See the front page for the definition of NP and the full list of changes in the What’s New section.
I hope to next add a bunch of graph charts for both contests (entrant count, entry count, and votes over time) and contestants (statistics history), but other non-work-related todo’s have piled up as well (tax prep in particular, fun fun) so I’m not sure when that’ll happen.
