Pope, if no TFer’s step up, I’d be glad to help, especially since you already TF’d me once. I’m outta town for parking lots and the next but should be back for this one and the following.

Els, I specifically account for those kinds of things. bastian_74 got an unvote just prior to being pulled, but once pulled/unenvotenated, entries aren’t considered in the unvote check. The 3 unvotes that happened yesterday were:

    User=Mopsy, ContestID=355, EntryID=75136445, ScanID=3014522, Time=2012-02-23 20:30:00, Votes=13, Place=5

Yeah, I can’t imagine who or why, but assuming this isn’t all some glitch Fark-side, someone had it out for Mopsy, I guess. Sorry, Mopsy. 🙁

So do any of the tech types know why even though I have been off the internet a few times today the contest is claiming billc226’s 2012-02-23 04:47:52 PM entry is a new entry? It’s been the new entry the last 4 or 5 times I checked. Every other thread I check is keeping normal track of new stuff and if I look later and there is nothing new It says I have seen everything before I click on it. you know the (1) at the end of the how many posts thingy.

I don’t know why and am heading out on a business trip so can’t look into it, but the exact same thing has been happening to me since mid-yesterday, loki.

To add to observations, does it look like a couple of minor negative voting events around Friday morning to anyone else?

There were 3 unvotes between the 8:30 and 8:45pm scans yesterday.

Congrats to TheOtherOne79 on the individual win and to Pope Larry II on the combined win. The Weekly Reports post has been updated with the latest stats. I know he/she has been posting here lately, so congrats also to CiliarySpasm on his/her first top ten!

    No unvotes again this week!

    Thanks, ‘Cuda!

… rather than quick snaps with a good camera while out on a walk on vacation.

Wish it weren’t so, but you just described my entries for the past several contests. 😕

It’s a worthy goal, for sure, though. That was my resolution this time last year (take at least 1 new shot per contest). I think it lasted about 3 months before real life got in the way again.

And actually, this contest is both – I took all my shots this week while on vacation last year, but I had this contest in mind while doing it. 🙂

On the other hand, I’ll go from a max 1600 ISO to 6400 (expandable to 12800–anyone know how that works)

Congrats, rav! And condolences to the rest of us, I’m guessing – you gave us enough competition before! 😉

As to the higher ISO, I’d assume it’s like my 30D and it’s a custom function you have to enable (although it only takes from 1600 to 3200 on the 30D).

Well, darn, I thought there would’ve been more stained glass entries or else I would’ve gone with my last bee instead of my third A.

Is it me or did the voters go MIA this week?

We’re a little below average, but probably not too far off based on the number of entries. We’re above Strange, which had fewer and just slightly less than Stoned, which had many more entries.

I agree with Els on the renovations 2 or 10 but my other two picks would be renovations 11 and texas church.

At one time the joke was we had more churches and bars per population in the country.

Me thinks you’ve never been to Tulsa, ‘katrinka. 😉

Speaking of which, I live in the Bible belt and there are tons of beautiful art deco churches (and other buildings) here due to early century oil wealth, but did I have time to go out and shoot? Of course not, I’ve gotta archive dive again.

I want to say that it was 250K, loki, but I’m not absolutely sure about that. The last contest I entered, I had a couple at around 160K with no problems.

On the flip side, if I ever need another job I’m gonna be a fool/money gap technician.

I hear Apple can’t hire enough of those guys…

Well, according to mapquest, Tulsa to Tonapah is 21+ hrs. That may be out of driving range for a 2-3 day campout, and the need to bring camping gear pretty much rules out a flight. I’ll have to ponder on this one and see how it goes. Given enough warning, my schedule’s pretty flexible other than the week around July 21 where I’ve already got another trip planned.

Yeah, that’s a good question. I don’t know if it’s related to the dual vote system or if it’s just because those are both themes with fewer total entries and outstanding first place entries. In both of those contests, 1st place got about 1.5 times the votes of even 3rd place. Is that because the 1st places were actually that much better or because votes were diverted to Funny? That’s the $64K question.

Congrats to U-Man on the sweep of both individual and combined and to Barracuda on his first top ten. The Weekly Reports post has been updated with the latest stats. The Combined Votes Results post has been updated to show the results of combining best+funny.

I’m happy to report that no unvotes occurred this contest. Final stats are average votes/entry=13.2, median votes=10.5, with 53% of Best votes going to the top 26% of entries, so it was indeed a top-heavy contest on the order of Bacon.
