Those are both nice bees, Uranus. Looking forward to seeing your A’s.

I noticed that no one ever really fails here.

You might wanna take a look at my performance during Macro Bugs. My best was 124th and my worst was 168th with one vote (and that was mine :(). Talk about a stats killer…

LOL! Here’s hoping it’s the former and not the latter, olavf.

I started out that way (exclusively archive diving), but I’ve been trying to do at least one new for the past few weeks, just because it forces me to use the camera which would otherwise just be sitting there waiting for the next vacation or special event.

I’ve got two new and one archive this week. I like ’em OK, but I really haven’t a clue whether the voters will. This week may be the end of my streak.

If you crop out the leaf in the top left corner (so that there’s one only “colored” object), I’d say it fits the rules as I’ve interpreted them, Curious.

Ah, well that explains why I didn’t see it. I have an account on FB, but it’s only to keep tabs on the kids. I “waste” enough time here. 😉

And you have my respect, too, then. It’s all I can do to deal with my problems, much less someone elses! 😆

…nuclear physics (and the math involved) stuff is hard…

Man, am I intimately aware of that. One of my degrees is Engineering Physics. It was all good until we got into quantumn mechanics. I took some comp sci classes for math electives and ending up liking it enough that I went on to earn a CS degree, too, but comparitively, CS is a walk in the park. I’ve got a huge amount of respect for the physicists out there.

Life just goes faster and faster and faster. Being a parent can be harder that all of the ‘work’ stuff. I’m glad I have found photography and the farktography community as a source and outlet for fun and creativity.

Agreed, enthusiastically agreed, and agreed. 🙂

And while we’re questioning Els, this may be something mentioned before my time (or maybe something you don’t wanna share, which is fine, too), but for some reason I thought you were in the literary field, so I’m curious as to what kind of practice you were referring to?

Of all the things to double post…

That’s OK. I just took it that you really felt strongly about it. 😉

    my new strobes

Awesome! I was just thinking last night as I was taking one of my entries this week that it would sure have been easier if I had better lighting. I’ve only got one external flash, so for shots that require it, I usually put the camera on bulb and then walk around and light it, but that really lengthens the whole shoot-review-try-again process.

That’s funny, ennuipoet – I prefer still life ’cause it doesn’t complain that I’m taking too long to get it just right! And I’m gonna try to do the same this year (shoot at least one new per theme), time permitting.

Between June and early August in 2001, I…

Yeah, I don’t know how you doctors do it. I ended up pursuing two degrees, so by the time I got through undergrad, I’d had enough of school to last me for quite a while and post-grad was not even a remote consideration. I can’t imagine doing post-grad and then residency.

OK, I had an idea for this one that I really like but I’m not going to have the time to do it right, so I’m throwing it out for anyone else’s use. It’s the Three Wise Monkeys (Hear No Evil/See No Evil/Speak No Evil). With the right kids in the right poses, I think it could be really cute.

I’d planned on doing it with my semi-cooperative 14-year as a multi-exposure single shot, but as I said, I’m not gonna have time. olavf and/or kat, I particularly had y’all in mind – if you can grab one of your two daughters’ (you’ve just the two, right?) friends, I think it’d make a cute shot. You likely already have your entries, but if not, you’re free to use it (and of course I’m not going to be offended it you don’t).

… having started a new job as of yesterday.

Yikes! A new job and a baby on the way. Sounds like it could be the recipe for a perfect storm of stress. Here’s wishing you smooth sailing on both counts.

I thought about it, but I more or less do it in my own disorganized way. Partially fueled by trying to get something new for each farktography contest 😉

Trying to shoot something original for each contest is about as close as I can get to this level of commitment, too. I do really enjoy it but I find that it always take more time than I thought it would to setup and execute. Hopefully I can grow to be more efficient as I learn.

I also like that I can look back at that set and have a record of every day from the year 2009. Thats the coolest thing about it I think.

That’s what would drive me to it if I ever decided to try it. I really like the idea of having some kind of memento of each day.

It’s hard to find someone who can or will repair electronics at the component level anymore. On most consumer devices, it’s either throw it away or diagnose what board the failure’s on and then replace that board.

I studied a good bit of EE back in school but went the software career path so all but the basics have evaporated. I was pretty proud of myself recently, though – I managed to fix our microwave. Using Google-fu, a multimeter and the process of elimination, it turned out to be oxidation on one of the door safety switches. A little steel wool and we were back in business.

Of course that was the last thing I checked, after the magnetron, the HV diode and capacitor, transformer, etc. If I was getting paid by the hour for it, it would’ve been cheaper to have bought a new one.
