ParticipantOk it looks like the propigation period is over because one of the 2 errors I was getting is now resolved. This is the error I get from Zenfolio when I try to link the domain name:
Error: http://www.buckwalterphotography.com does not resolve correctly
We found that the A record(s) for http://www.buckwalterphotography.com are not pointing to the Zenfolio IP address. If you have to use an A record, it must point to 64.62.158.18. The recommended configuration is a CNAME record pointing to custom.zenfolio.com.
Below are the A record(s) that we found:
http://www.buckwalterphotography.com. A 65.254.248.149So I have created new A records for “www.buckwalterphotography.com” and “http://www.buckwalterphotography.com” attached to the Zenfolio IP
Theoretically this record will also need to propigate for everything to work correctly then, yes?
FYI, the IP address in the quote above, meaning 64.62.158.18, is definitely one of Zenfolio’s. Here’s an excert of the the output from “whois -h whois.arin.net”.
Hurricane Electric, Inc. HURRICANE-4 (NET-64-62-128-0-1) 64.62.128.0 – 64.62.255.255
Zenfolio, Inc. HURRICANE-CE1581-521 (NET-64-62-158-16-1) 64.62.158.16 – 64.62.158.23
Also last night I used a command line HTTP command to fetch the website using the IP address and forcing the appropriate “Header:” line. It worked fine.

ParticipantI don’t think it’s a DNS problem. Instead, I think browser requests to http://buckwalterphotography.com or http://cjbuckwalter.zenfolio.com ARE getting to your hosting company. But I suspect those servers aren’t configured to handle requests for those domain names. If I’m right, that means the DNS entries are fine, but the hosting site only setup your service to respond correctly to requests for http://carolejbuckwalter.zenfolio.com so far.
I can explain why I think that’s the root cause if you like. For instance, if you want to forward specific details to your hosting provider… But at a high level, webservers are typically configured to handle requests for many websites using a single IP address. So the “Host: blah.blah.com” headers in the requests are what they use to distinguish them. And the DNS setup in place for your older domains are just mapping those requests to the right IP address without getting the browser to add the “Host: carolejbuckwalter.zenfolio.com” header.

ParticipantCongrats, ennui! Awesome!
Seconded! That’s a very cool way to start the day… Now you can add at least one more ‘0’ to the asking price of your tricycle snapshot.

ParticipantOk, I fixed the link. A few of the pics are Canon CR2 raw format. (I suggest Irfanview w/ plugins.) Switch from thumbnail view to detail view to see them listed. I switched to small format when I noticed there was room for only 8 pics left on the card before the bar crawl. I’ve also got a video of the second act finishing his “Chicken, Monkey, Duck” song, but it’s too big to upload (>100MB). It was pretty good, but Nug (Mustard Man) was was the funniest. Mike Andrews has a few more pics posted on his Facebook page if you want to see them.
The link is still busted for me (just a blank page) FYI…

ParticipantI’ve seen some before, I think I own one, and now there’s a few more entries on my must-have list.
That Orleans album is good FM-pop from the 1970’s, but the cover is awful. The song Still the One was even a pretty big hit. I’ve nver heard the other ones, although I’ve seen some of the covers on “worst album cover” lists before.

ParticipantWell, we now have another high-depth contender: Darktable. Who knew Linux would explode with choices? ‘Bout damn time us open-source weenies got some love! 😆
I installed this today since it was so simple. There’s a pre-packaged version available for Fedora so just one “yum install darktable” and it’s done… I haven’t used it yet. And I could try messing with Theli too if you need UNIX nerd help. I peeked at the website once before but I know zippo about astrophotography so it didn’t seem immediately useful to me. But sometimes just playing around with software because I can is entertaining for me. So we’ll see…

ParticipantFWIW, installed photivo looks like an old school “get source, config, compile, install” thing since the braindead “yum install photivo” method I tried didn’t work. So I’ll try playing with it but it will take a bit before I have time to do that. I used to have to couple the browser I like (Seamonkey) years ago so I don’t think it will be a problem to get it running. But it can be a time consuming, iterative process so I’m going to wait until I have a chunk of time to devote to it.

ParticipantFrom looking at it I image it’s a pain in the ass to make though.
Making it isn’t that rough. It’s less of a hassle if you pour the batter to make one giant rectangle, then cut that into equal rectangles.
Got it… That would be simpler. All the recipes I read said to bake the thin cakes in round pans 1/4″ thick. So you’d end up baking 2 at a time over and over just to get a round dessert instead of a square one.

ParticipantDo not know WHAT I’m going to make for the third one…
Make a Dobos torte.
Wow that’s a weird coincidence… I’d never heard of dobos torte until last week when I had dinner at a restaraunt that has a Hungarian influenced menu. They had dobos torte on the dessert menu and it was delicious! From looking at it I image it’s a pain in the ass to make though.

ParticipantYeah I really like it too even though (as usual) I just pushed all the buttons to figure things out instead of reading the manual. The user interface is counterintutive for me, but I’m getting more and more used to it. Part of that is the sheer number of buttons and knobs you can twiddle. There are so many tools it’s hard to figure out which ones to disable, which ones to set to “auto” and which ones to spend time fine tuning. But it seems to get pretty close to what I want when I initially enable things (meaning the automatic “best guess” it makes). So I mostly find I’m just making minor tweaks to get the final result.
The most interesting bits so far are these.
1. Using the “black” and “shadow recovery” sliders as a replacement for tweaks with color curves and brightness/contrast. The black/shadow controls seems to give you a way to target just the depth of color in the image.
2. There are lots and lots of white balance choices, which is fun to play with even if it’s not really all that useful.
3. But the “OMG I love this!!!” has to go to the “select straight line” method of picking the rotation angle. It makes aligning a photo so that the horizon line is parallel to the top/bottom of the image trivial. I have a lot of photos of things with the ocean in the background. And getting the water line level is so much easier with this tool.
The only thing I’m still beating my head against is the sharpening options. Nothing in that set of tools (meaning Sharpening, Edges, Microcontrast, Impusle Noise Reduction, Noise Reduction, Defringe, and Contrast by Detail Levels) seem to make any visible difference when I apply them. So I might have to break down and RTFM after all at some point.

ParticipantI’ve found a little funk is good since it keeps all sorts of excesive personality traits in check. But too much can be opressive and I’m glad to hear you’ve decided enough it enough and are talking to someone. Your participation definitely makes this community a better place, so I hope you soon find playing in this sandbox fun again very soon.
And in case music helps you (it does for me), here’s a link to some good funk. The title is even a good mantra for getting through rough patch.

ParticipantDangit, don’t say that! I almost almost made that one an A.
Er, I mean, thanks! 🙂
FWIW, if I like a photo it’s almost guaranteed to get very few votes. 🙂 So you probably picked wisely.
Also, I noticed Fark was down too. It was a really strange since it was returning “permission denied” errors sometimes in addition to the infamous “beer spill” page. But it magically starting working again a few minutes later. But that might explain the really, really low votes in the contest this week so far.

Participantlove the (unfortunate) honestly of that last sentence.
I’ve been around a few blocks in my time and am pretty cynical and “world weary”. So I’m pretty tough, like a stewing hen or something, so even tiny slivers of hope or good news are sufficient to keep me going. That bitter perspective probably bled through when I wrote the original comment. 🙂

ParticipantI see them as well.
Some bees for those interested.
I think the one titled “Fractured Curves” is wonderful!

ParticipantSo I was showing the contest to a friend today and he didn’t notice until I pointed it out that my 3rd entry (“impossible gateway”) is also an optical illusion. I thought the title text implied it, but maybe I was wrong. Did y’all catch that or should I have been more explicit?
I noticed it was an optical illusion after a few seconds. But it was triggered by an immediate impression that something was odd about the image not the title. I really like optical illusions though so I’m probably more likey to consider that angle than most people.
