ParticipantI really like that second one. I like the fourth, too, but would kinda like to see a different crop…maybe more rectangle with the pencil points in the lower right?
Do you mean more like this?

ParticipantJK, You’re not the only one to yoyo today. I think that’s my lot for now. Anyway, I’ve narrowed it down to the choices below. I would appreciate input on those (if you all could be so kind), please. I’d like to know how guys got SO much more out of your CDs than me, but I guess that’ll have to wait; something else to figure out. In the meantime, I’m going to get cracking on a few jobs for work and try and let my head settle (operative word being try). Thank you, in advance.

ParticipantAccording to Husband, what I’m doing isn’t “good enough” so I’m feeling rather disheartened and defeated because I don’t know how to do better and I’m not surgery why I’m trying. I’m sorry for wasting your time.

ParticipantI’ll do one CD picture and then I’m going “literal” I guess for the rest. I’m setting it up now and will have some pictures soon (I hope). Right now it’s just something to do to help stay in it, keep taking pictures. If hormones are kind to me this weekend (and I remember) there will be block towers galore getting destroyed for next week’s contest.

ParticipantI did put them in the microwave, yes. We had some that turned out to be duds. I was hoping it’d give it a pattern in addition to the rainbows, but that didn’t seem to make a difference. Husband suggested to use music CDs since they may have a glossier finish?? I have no idea if he’s right or wrong, I just didn’t want to pull down my binder with them. I finally got everything I had ripped to my computer so I could merge it with my iTunes library. I may have to just suck it up and spend an hour or so doing that today (not too long as I’m distracted enough with work as it is), but hopefully I can get some better results.
I thought about using hard drive platters, but those aren’t so much rainbow-y as they are just plain reflective so that didn’t work worth a darn either. I’ll figure out something. Thanks for the input.

ParticipantQB, that’s pretty much what I posted about too. My rainbows were rather small and all around it was less robust in color than I would have hoped. Honestly, yours has more kick than mine so I”d go for it. Not even a single prism around her to work with, sadly (hence the CDs).

ParticipantAny chance I could get input on what I linked earlier? I posted hoping for some feedback but I never got anything. I’m not really sure how to make them better, I don’t even know if they qualify.

ParticipantFor all my idea was, I’m getting tiny little rainbows and I don’t know how to make them bigger or better. I have to go indirectly in order to cast the rainbow and it’s just not working out. Ideas ❓
Unfortunately, this is the best I’ve gotten so far:

ParticipantI knew some of these would be creepy (B&W seem to be the creepiest). I also knew that I wouldn’t be able to quantify creepy (not something I have a handle on yet). He had a couple of suggestions, but only today, and I’ve been very procrastinating with work lately (a problem when you work from home) so it’s been weird (add in slightly adjusted schedule). Looking good. Can’t wait to vote. If anything, this will give me some ideas and things to try later this week while out and about Halloween-ing and such, so I’ll be trying it out. I’m going to play in the graveyard(s) next door. Is it considered creepy that we live next to a cemetery?

ParticipantDecision time: I have one, 1 singular picture out of all I took with the guitar, trumpet, clarinet and music stand that I’m remotely comfortable with posting. The rest are a gamble. Hell, it’s all a gamble.
B-sides:

(doesn’t actually count as music, but he did a significant portion, and that’s on the front of my Blue Skies sheet music, by the way)

ParticipantI probably shouldn’t wait until the last minute either, but as much as I was inspired to do something for this contest, nothing I had and nothing I could set up felt like it was worthy. I’m submitting, just feeling out-classed.

ParticipantI like piccolos. I do agree with my Dad though, only one at a time in a performance as if they’re out of tune with each other it’s really noticeable.
Speaking of piccolos, I got to hear and play a piccolo trumpet once. That was just plain weird….
I’m not thoroughly pleased with my pictures so far, but I have a couple of choices that should work. I decided to use the lights I got in my photo tent kit to help with lighting, and one wiggled out of place and slipped to the floor and the filament in the bulb busted. I felt like such a ‘tard for that. Hubby got the bulb out, determined the cause and found out that the bulbs aren’t all that expensive to replace, nor are that hard to find. Just has to wait for Friday (pay day).

ParticipantQuestion, if we have in the picture a composition that we have written, how much of it should be blurred out or anything? I have one I’m thinking of placing with my guitar, and I wrote the piece in college, so about 2002 or 2003. I never sent it in for formal copyright, but I wrote the lyrics and I wrote the melody/chords to go with it, the latter part something I intended to do but used for a course assignment. Given that it’s not formally copywritten, but I am the one who wrote it, what would I have to worry about if I showed some or part of it in a picture? And there’d be no question about readability, I printed it off using Finale, so it’s clear.
Any suggestions, comments, etc? Thanks.

ParticipantI did notice the TF ran out. I do plan on renewing it, and will next Friday. We tend to run our paychecks rather close to the wire, and currently there is $12 sitting in my account right now that’s going for milk/veggies we’ll need before pay day on Friday. On the flip side, I was told to purchase a photo tent this paychecck, which I did. I think that could override TF for now :). I picked up this one: http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-Table-Photo-Studio-Light/dp/B001MYGCVY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255810954&sr=8-1-spell It was only $4 more than the Thinkgeek one and was $22 less than from Cowboystudio directly so I was given the go ahead. Everything came neatly folded up so the backgrounds have creases, but that’s easy enough to fix. There’s a thing for the front too with a zipper that I’m guessing can be used for reflective things where you wouldn’t want the camera showing. I did like having TF (thank you for getting me hooked) and on the 23rd when I get paid again I will be back in.
The bad thing about working from home is that when something like that arrives at your door and you want to take it all out and play with it and such, that it really cuts into your time. hehe. It is, however, setup on the mondo-sized desk that Hubby made for me (picture and post about that on my blog) and I have already used it. The lights are *BrIghT*. It’s a good thing we didn’t look directly into them because we’d be blind!

ParticipantI miss singing. I have the stuff to practice with, but I’d just annoy everyone. Hubby told me a few times he thought I sang too loud, or otherwise was just wrong about it so I stopped doing it around him and from there it wasn’t too hard to just stop altogether. Solo was never really my thing. I liked ensemble. It wasn’t so much for the hiding, but more that I thought it was cool when our voices made harmonies. I’ve switched between soprano and alto, but I don’t have that low of a voice. On the occasions I give in and head to church with my parents, Dad and I will purposely not sing the melodies of the hymns and instead make our way with the other parts.
Kiddo seems to be inately attracted to music. If any toy played it, he was on it. He’s particularly attracted to theme songs. Ever since before he could walk, if a theme song came on he’d stop what he was doing, watch intently until it was over and then go back to his business. Doesn’t matter the show, he just wants the theme music. Strange. He abuses the crap out of his musical toys, loves them, plays the songs over and over, even if it’s not their initial function. If he hears music say played from the computers or anything, he stops to listen. It’s kind of scary. I want to do my best to encourage him in it, should he want, and there’s good reason to believe he’ll at least have some inclination toward it, but I’m not about to push it.
I was the only female trumpet in my band too. Usually there about 2 or 3 of us, maybe up to 4 or 5 but that was rare. We always had lots of flutes and clarinets. I initially picked it (I think, it’s buried and fuzzy in my memory) because that was what my sister had played for the all of 5 minutes she was in band before off to do something else. One year we actually had 2 tubas in the band. That was weird, but also really cool. My Dad’s been known to have people if they’re interested swap instruments in the same family. He’s taken some alto/tenor sax players and made them bari sax, altos to tenor, etc. He’s maybe been able to get a couple of clarinet players over to sax too. Brass seemed to be the lowest number, and never enough, so I never switched. I wanted to try others, but never did. I was valuable where I was. Plus being brass I was loud so I got to sit back and listen, look, pay attention. Only thing behind me was the percussion section. That’s the only part of middle and high school I’ll miss – band. Only place I felt like I belonged.
And yes I’m quite fond of the shenanigans. That one time, at band camp, well, let’s just say that’s where I met my husband…and yes we did.
Wow, the memories this thread brings up. They’re good. I had just forgotten how many there were. I’ll be sure to share my preliminary photos when I get them up.
