Participantto be semi serious IMO the one thing 126 instamatics had going was film size.
i found an argus manual on line for my mothers camera and downloaded it. it is a scan of the original and will be a big help in getting decent images from the camera. not having that before meant the few rolls i shot were real hit and miss as to picture quality. well that and it was many years ago when i knew practically nothing about cameras or film. to stay true to the time i may shot b/w although that will mean special processing again since all my b/w film is tri-x.
and yes orionid and ennuipoet if i hadn’t got rid of all my developing tanks i could do it myself.
Curious
ParticipantDwayne’s still does runs of 110 and Disc film if you are of a mind to actually shoot some
as a moderator i could simple delete your post but that would be the cowards way out. so i will patiently explain to you that the negative sizes of both those film types don’t allow sufficient information to be captured to make decent sized prints. to say nothing about crappy optics or the the lack of creative controls both cameras have.
or i could own up to using the “no film” excuse as a cop out.

Participantrav i have paid hosting and your suggestion about using it as cloud storage intrigues me. i’ll have to think on that a bit.

ParticipantI have to ask: Am I the only one who still owns an analog clock? I thought there would be several similar entries and it would just do –meah– because of it.
i have two, one in here and one in the living room. i’m old and dislike digital. neither have second hands and even if they did it wouldn’t have occurred to me to use one.
Curious
Participantwell i have three. tried using the lid scanner (it’s a full width scanner for medium format film) but that didn’t work like i’d hoped. so reflective it is.
But really–I can’t stress enough how important it is to back up your pictures or whatever you possibly can in any way fathomable in a location other than what you are living within.
learned that the hard way with katrina. thought i’d left photos in a safe place (they were actually in a safe) but the supports collapsed and water got to them. probably 80% had at least some damage. those got scanned after the fact. 20% were not salvageable. all my stuff is now on two external HDDs so i can grab one in the event of having to evacuate. fire is another story. i probably should put one in the fire safe and just get it out for periodic backups.
trying to get VA beneifts a few years after katrina proved tricky too since a lot of paperwork was damaged when the photos were. fortunately they took the damaged discharge papers and my undamaged DD217N which had been in my wallet.

ParticipantAnd, of course, the six or so scanners that have been sitting on the shelf at goodwill since the beginning of time all disappeared while we were in VA.
our “good” goodwill store was flooded in katrina. the new one has crap for electronics. and the salvation army store is gone completely.
there was a hudson’s in waveland pre katrina that had left over radio shack stuff cheap. that whole shopping center never reopened. and the hudson’s in gulfport is crappy now too.
i’m guessing a lot of old electronics that was in folks attics and used to go to goodwill, the salvation army, etc got wiped out in katrina. the selection since is bad.

Participantit will be interesting to see how well the 3D part plays out.

Participantmost (using just total numbers) of the film cameras i have are semi collectibles. by which i mean they are crappy instamatics, disc cameras, etc.
And? What’s stopping you from using them? 😉
i can’t find 110 film. the disc camera is kind of cool but again no film.
and i never really was a fan of SX-70s or Kodak EK4s 🙂
Curious
ParticipantThere’s no option for “I own a shit ton of film cameras and shoot film occasionally, but would really like to shoot them more often” 😉

i want to shot a roll through my mom’s old argus just for giggles. also the rolleiflex again just for giggles.
i keep a minolta freedom zoom on both my camera bags but haven’t used the 90 in years and don’t think i’ve ever used the 115. bought it on sale to have for a backup to digital.
i also want to shot the XD-11 with it’s zooms just to compare then to my digital zooms.
so far i haven’t selected a good day trip to do all that. but i’ll let you know what happens.

Participanti was online using skype yesterday and talking about this contest. grabbed an object and scanned it just to see how it worked. presto, now i have an entry.
not sure just what else i’ll use but this random one is good.

Participantgenerally bats are insect eaters so …. got a lot of insects this year.
nice shots.

ParticipantI’ve gone avant-garde this week.
…And looking at Flickr, ran with an idea I was planning on.
No biggie, I has other artilleries.
which has given me an idea.
Curious
Participantthanks both of you. one more thing to get in the way of saving for that D7000 🙂

ParticipantYou might want to give vuescan a try. I’ve been using it instead of the Nikon software with an old 35mm scanner, and it works pretty well for that. http://www.hamrick.com/
it looks good but the “do we support your scanner” thing doesn’t mention using masks. that’s really where my problem is. the medium format stuff. 35mm and 4×5 are fine.
do you have the standard or professional version?
Curious
Participanthow the heck did they take medium format film and make a 35mm contact sheet? the folks at the camera store couldn’t tell me. on the plus side it was only $.95.
I bet it’s a digital fake made from film scans rather than an actual contact sheet.
i’d go for that. what annoyed me was the camera store that sent the film for processing couldn’t explain it. i specifically ask why they didn’t take the sleeved negs and lay them down on a photosensitive piece of paper — and got a blank look. at that point i gave up.
hey, while i have your attention my epson 4990 photo scanner is still messing up the thumbnail selection. using the 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 mask and i end up with 1.34 x 2.21 thumbnails. so my one frame becomes three thumbnails. i had hoped that when i installed the win7 divers on this new computer that problem would go away. found a work around but will have to give the tech folks another call.
