ParticipantZero that sucks. i might have been tempted to tell her to piss off but discretion was probably the best bet.
ravnostic i love b/w but it doesn’t work here. the light/dark banding becomes just distracting banding. and the grass/sand interface is lost.
given how the girls are sitting the assumption is the right hand girl and wheelchair go together. the “story” is open. the separation could be what mobility allows. or not. it could be motivational. ie even susy is able to play with her friends. the sunlight highlights that.

Participanti took the D3000 to the nature center swamp walk place today and shot 263 images in an hour+. it’s nice but the exposure meter doesn’t deal well with bright sun and deep shadows. i’ll need to learn how to compensate for that. unfortunately the EV+/- is menu driven unlike the 7D which has a convenient knob.
Have you messed around with the Active-D lighting feature? I haven’t had an opportunity to play with it much but it should help with the shadows.
went out in the front yard this morning and shot a bunch of tests with and without the Active-D lighting. the manual says it will balance the light/dark ares better and it seems to. some shots were so contrasty light/dark that the help was minimal but overall it is a plus. and easy to set for those occasions where you need it.
i also shot some NEF/RAW and NEF/RAW + jpeg. cut my card storage in half. the nikon ViewNX will handle the NEF/RAW fine as far as viewing the images. windows wizard just disregards them and imports the jpegs.
also downloaded the UFRaw plugin for the Gimp and sometime in this life time i may learn how to use it 🙂

ParticipantPhotoshop audio edit forum on fark.
well you can be succinct but i prefer verbose in my answers 🙂

ParticipantWhat is the PSAEF? Maybe I should read that and see if it helps clarify it because I still don’t get why a place gets skipped and I don’t want to jack this thread. Thanks!
it’s the PhotoShop and Audio Edit Form forum on fark where all the cool (or is it kewl?) kids hang out.
http://www.fark.com/cgi/comments.pl?IDLink=6
mainly devoted to photoshop questions (audio edit contest being lacking these days) and also where the farktographers are prone to go since we don’t have an official forum on fark. it was this lack of our own forum on fark that lead to farktography.net being established. plus with this site we can have many threads rather than a disjointed thread with many subjects.now when i say the PSAEF is mainly devoted to photoshop questions that is a bit of a misnomer. recently we have been talking about a members new tortoise. it’s actually a rambling open forum that is supposed to just be for photoshop and if the discussion gets to far afield Gwenny will cut you. yea for inside jokes 🙂
the question of ties and how to report them came up because one of the folks there was writing a new stats generator and wondering how to place tie votes. ie 1,2,2,2,3 or 1,2,2,2,5. the latter is what you are questioning.
as far as jacking this thread IMO placement/ties is part and parcel of the conversation.

ParticipantAhhh, ok, thanks Kestrana & Orionid!
Now that I think about this some more, why does it work that way? Why isn’t there a tie for each place without skipping the subsequent places? Or is that just the way the FSM works?
there is a tie, that what caused the skip. there was a raging debate recently in the PSAEF about the best way to list ties and this method won out. more by default but it does have it’s fans. me included.

Participantthanks for the script CauseISaidSo. did as was suggested and made it a bookmark and have used it for this weeks contest and some photoshop contests. works fine.

Participant80A to shoot daylight film in incandescent light I think. 85’s go the other way (I used one shooting outside when I found some really cheap tungsten slide film).
If the lighting is really bad you can always try converting it to BW… mixed fluorescent and incandescent you often can’t do much else with it.
your right again. i have mine from the old old days of shooting seattle film works movie film packaged as 36 exposure rolls. you got back negs, slides and prints. while it was cheap, even with the filters the color was a bit wonky and printing from it was no fun.
thanks for the input.

ParticipantOkay, it’s cool and all, as usual, but I gotta echo the comment in this week’s contest and say
//dude. you. need. a. manicure.
or some GoJo and a stiff brush.

Participanti have several photos of the folks i work with (some shot for the “hands” contest) but the lighting is so crappy there they aren’t very good.
If these were shot with your new camera, you can change the color temperature with it’s software (GREAT for florescent lighting issues.) You may be able to do so even with pics taken before then–my Canon software will let me do so, at least.
most were shot with the 7D, some with a 7i and some with a A360 Fuji FinePix. having taken another look at them some shot for “behind the scene” (not hands) might work and were shot with flash. the rest are crap even with the color corrected.
but it’s one more thing to play around with. back in the day you just screwed on a 85 (or 85b, help me with this sleeping) filter and shot away.

Participantunfortunately the EV+/- is menu driven unlike the 7D which has a convenient knob.
It should also work with the +/- compensation button & command dial, assuming it’s like most other nikons
just tried it and it does. and it’s about the same time wise as using the knob.
thanks again.
the more i mess with this the more i need to mess with it. or read the manual 🙂
haven’t looked into D-lighting yet but will this weekend.

ParticipantYay, it’s here!
What an upgrade over my other digital cam, a Fujifilm S3100/3500 , which I’ve used for the vast majority of my Farktography.
Ooh, the options I have now … thanks for the hand-me-down, Curious!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an instruction manual to read 😀
you are more than welcome and i hope you enjoy it as i have. BTW the strap attaching things aren’t OEM as you no doubt figured out. i did find them an easier way to go. and that’s the first time the tamron hood has ever been installed 🙂
Curious
ParticipantBTW Elsonore i got my cpanel problem figured out so this week’s posting went much smoother. stupid revisions and fixing stuff that isn’t broke just for a snappier GUI.

Participantgosh mopsy that sounds horrible. glad he’s mending and hope the recovery goes well.
