ParticipantI sure hope that’s a Nikon lens at about the 17 second mark.
Nikon doesn’t use red rings…
I saw the red ring, and it made me smile. No Nikon lenses were injured in the filming of this vid 😉

ParticipantI had that issue when I was in Taiwan – it was so humid that my lens would fog up repeatedly whenever I left the indoors to venture out. I can concur that it can take longer than 30 minutes for the lens to acclimate…sometimes I’d be carrying around the camera for a full hour before it was ready to take good photos. In the meantime, I was just wiping down the protective lens filter with a microfiber cloth between shots…did the trick for what I needed.

ParticipantI’m in! Love fantasy football. We play every year at work and it’s always so much fun.

ParticipantMight be toeing the line here, but where would rockclimbing stand? Seems pretty sporty to me, but it’s not exactly competitive (except against yourself and the mountain). Wikipedia defines it as a sport, but don’t know where this contest would put it.

ParticipantYou couldn’t be the only two 😉

ParticipantI signed up on Fark for the sole purpose of farktography, so figured it’d be a fitting name

ParticipantOh, and Yugo, what kind of backpack? If it doesn’t have a giant “Nikon” or “Canon” logo on it, I hear it’s much more stealthy and pickpockets are less likely to go looking.
/also, from my previous post – I’m young, but not THAT young. In high school the cameras we used for our newspaper were digital; they would take 3×5 floppy discs and each would hold 4-5 shots. Try to not look like a nerd carrying a big stack of floppy discs around your high school 😆

ParticipantIt’s easy to go nuts with a DSLR. My first day using my DSLR was for this past Christmas – I took something like 2,000 photos in that one day 😯 Being born and raised without this film stuff you people keep talking about, it was too easy for me to just use the camera as a point-and-shoot. Now that I’m in manual-only (and have been for about 5 months now), it’s still totally a learning process, but I’m learning to actually compose my shot before I take it. That’s really the hardest part for me – reading books and taking a class that teach you all about ISO, aperture/shutter speed relations, all that jazz…it’s good and all, but it really comes down to composition. I still need to work on that a lot. It’s a month-by-month improvement, to be sure. I look back on the things I’ve done in the past year and cringe at most of the beginning photos.

ParticipantWhy? Why would you DO that to your burger? Vegetables? Shame on you!

ParticipantHaha…saw the theme title and got excited for astrophotography. Then that got slapped down right away. Still like this, though. +1

ParticipantDoes the freeway count as a parking lot if there’s no cars moving? 😀 That seems pretty L.A. style

ParticipantThanks again for the tips. I got my first film roll developed and came up with this (it’s a very very rough draft, quick and dirty):
As suggested, I got this slide film and re-rolled it into my own canister and told them to develop it as C41, no cutting, no printing, etc., and they did it fine. The film freaked me out at first because it was so clear, I thought that all the images were washed off, but alas, all turned out fine. Because I don’t have a scanner, I laid the film over a bright light and took a photo using my D7000, then imported it onto my computer, adjusted the set white spot and then inverted the image. Looking forward to having more fun with this film stuff you old-timers keep talking about 😉

ParticipantI saw one of these old Hawkeyes in an antique store about a month back. It looked vintage, and I was sure I could scrap it together for something, and then I saw the asking price – $100. WTF. Same went for any other “antique” camera they had – the ones with broken lenses, broken shutters, etc., were all decorations that people apparently are willing to shell out over a hundred bucks for. That’s when I finally broke down and bought a holga on ebay for $20.

ParticipantWhat, exactly, is the frame rule? I’m not seeing an issue with the shot…

ParticipantYeah, they send me these and I tend to toss them in the garbage. I never have a use for it :-/
