ParticipantI’m still waiting for my model for pic#3 to come over — she should be here soon. It would be ironic if the picture didn’t work. =P Oh well, this is how I learn. And it’s an excuse to have company for dinner. =)
/yes, we tried to do this before the night OF the contest… it just didn’t work out lol

ParticipantNow we just need for FSM to recover Filtered. Not that I don’t like seeing my name that high up on the top ten, but it’s not accurate lol.
Oh yeah, and I guess I have to give QueenBee her votes, too. 😛 She might appreciate that. They do make my profile page look quite amusing, though. 😛

ParticipantAh well, it happens. Next week is another week.
/Scarlet O’Hara for my Scarlet R
Awwww… *hugs* It’s probably bound to happen when you’ve entered nearly 500 pictures…. 😉

ParticipantFor what it’s worth, here is how I got the hamster in her exercise ball rolling off the first step.
Glad you cleared up that there were no fluffy defenseless aminals endangered in the making of that photograph. 😉
Naw, really, I liked seeing the set-up. I really enjoy it when you show us how you pulled off a wild or impossible looking shot. 😀

Participantannnd the one is gone again. I just found I could resize it in the album where it’s posted so I made it smaller. Can you work your magic so it comes back? Hopefully it should stay now. Sorry to be such a pest!
I haven’t had any trouble seeing your pictures, FWIW.

ParticipantBetter than me. I read it and still got it wrong. 😛 I claim brain melt. But I finished writing my novel today! *brain dribbles out of ears* 😯
Congrats on finishing the novel. Any sneak peaks for your wonderful farktography buddies?
😳
This is the excerpt I posted at nanowrimo.org … I’m not sure what else to show y’all… it’s 65K+ words, after all, and hasn’t been edited yet. I think it’s got some potential, but….
This scene takes place the morning after the first crisis-point in the story. And for the purposes of better understanding, the narrator is a guy named Joe. I didn’t really want to write in first person, but he insisted. 😛
I sipped my coffee and stared blankly out the kitchen windows. Blankly was a good word for it. The fog was so thick you couldn’t see the other side of the street at this elevation. I felt isolated in a world of weirdness. Almost against my will, my eyes slid to the bar between the kitchen and the living room where I could see the tops of a few fairy heads and the entire upper half of Amaleen as she dusted Molly’s crystal critter collection. It was then that I noticed Becky sitting at the feet of the crystal fairy. She was staring up at the arrogant expression on the crystal face, her own expression almost rapt. Suddenly Amaleen’s duster came down on crystal and live fairy alike.
Becky exploded with rage. ?You mewling spur-galled vassal! Watch yourself or I’ll bite you, I swear by air and fire.?
I wondered what her insult was supposed to mean, and even more why someone should be afraid of the bite of a creature as small as she.
Amaleen did not appear either frightened by the threat or sorry for her transgression. ?Don’t get in the way of my work, then, you ill-tempered owl-fodder.?
Clearly these fairies weren’t all peace and love and rainbows like the children’s books would have one believe. At least Amaleen’s insult made a little sense to me.
I turned my eyes back to the kitchen and found that Molly had been watching me watch the fairies. ?We have got to get that portal fixed. This is a disaster waiting to happen.?
It was? It seemed to me it was a disaster that had already happened.
?And you don’t know how?? I asked? No. I don’t know why it broke. This hasn’t happened to me before. I didn’t know it could.? She looked deeply troubled.
Oh, and for the record, my darling husband also hasn’t asked to read any of it. (though I have shown him the odd paragraph here and there, if I was particularly pleased with how I phrased it… or particularly amused with how I fucked it up lol)

ParticipantOh, and I totally recognize that it was my bad. I mean the words were there the whole time. Just didn’t read them. 😳

ParticipantDunno, but it’s all good now. Love the stair fail 😉
lol thanks. I HAD to take a picture when I saw that. A big ol’ WTF right in my own neck of the woods. 😉

ParticipantI couldn’t decide betwen several mediocre thoughts for my third pic. Then I realized that this thread is going epic, and thought about a 35mm photo I took last week while trespassing on a CP Rail switchyard.
ha! awesome choice.

ParticipantRe-posted. *sigh* I wish I’d taken the time to read the whole thread here before I got my posts ready. It didn’t occur to me to look at the description in the first post because they generally match. Oh well, my bad, it was lazy of me.
It happens, but for point of reference, they do match both here and the Fark thread. The only edit this description got was to clarify you could photoshop the text onto the picture and to be aware your pictures are likely to be grabbed. The original theme description did say those were the only three options for captioning.
yeah, i see that now. i got thrown off by taking the part about the captioning in the photos with only those words separately from the part about what you could put in the text of the post. In retrospect I’m not sure why I dissociated those things from each other.

edited to add: I see how I made my misunderstanding now, but it was clear to me at the time lol

ParticipantNo other descriptions at all. It says so in the theme description.
You must caption your picture only with “Win”, “Fail”, or “I like where this thread is going”
dammit i looked at the description at the beginning of this thread before I posted. grrrr. now i have to repost mine AND Queenbees…..

ParticipantI plan on trying both ends of the scale I think.
I just asked “Coffee or tea?” and you said “Yes.” 😉
OR question! HELP! heehee

ParticipantOkay… I’m a little confused… are we talking pictures that are predominately white or where something white is clearly the subject? There is — or can be — a significant difference between the two. It’s difficult to make something that is predominantly white also be the subject, because in almost every instance the eye will automatically be drawn towards whatever is not white; it’s how our brains work.
It’s been my feeling in the color contests in the past that the color has to be the focus of the picture, but not that it necessarily had to be, say, 85% of the picture, to pull a percentage out of my ass, so to speak. 😛
Anyway, thoughts please? I have some ideas for this contest, but they work for the “subject” orientation rather than the “predominant” orientation. 😉
