ParticipantI wonder how many other people people’s votes were lost because of a different definition of “waterscape” than the description offered. It definitely didn’t say anything about picture orientation. My non-lake-folsom pictures were 10x more original than 90% of the entries (which doesn’t make them better, but should have made them worthy of some thought) and were well executed. Not to say they should have been contest winners, but they were interesting dammit. The algae closing behind the ducks as they swim? Tiny cliffs? Nobody else did anything like it that I noticed. It’s sad to me to think they were blown off because of the formatting when the contest definition defined waterscapes as a a large expanse of water, water being the prominent feature. Oh well, so be it. I’m not pissed off, just kind of bummed.

Participant*sigh* the voters hate me. I know, I know, the competition is fierce this week. Actually, I knew I was screwed before I finished posting my pix. *sigh*
I’m too stubborn to quit, even if 18 of my last 30 contests have been below my av points/entry evar. Suck suck suck. =( Oh well, as Dori says: just keep swimming, just keep swimming…

ParticipantFWIW — and having done a little research into self-publishing 😉 — I highly doubt the publisher will give a participant discount. Particularly in view of the fact that I don’t think there will be a HUGE amount of sales outside of participants. It would be rockin’ and nifty if there were, and by the gods there’s no reason anyone shouldn’t love a book like it’s going to be. But unless we’re planning to try to shop it out to an agent to get it published by a big name, there isn’t a whole lot of chance that it will be selling out at Borders.
/but wouldn’t that be sooooooo cool? 😀

ParticipantI agree with the concern over the verbiage in a general way, but in this specific instance, I’m fine with this contract. =)

Participantmissed some lively conversation, I see….
I just have one question. Am I really supposed to trust a picture that has “photoshop” in the file name? 😯

ParticipantYeah, one of our favorite people watching haunts has plenty of real seating, yet people tend to make chairs — if you will — of just about anything that doesn’t move too quickly.

ParticipantThanks. Very poignant. 🙄

ParticipantTalk about gah, I was trying for the artistic nakedness implying sex sort of shot and omg, we are not particularly flattering people on pixels.
Heh, This is why most of my bed-room shots are implied. 😉 And the one with a person in the bed isn’t ME. 😛 For that matter, it’s only hands. 😆
my friend who had breast cancer and has heart trouble among other things has a medicine cabinet like that.
i lived for 67 years pill free and now with high BP, high cholesterol and COPD have a total of two pills and three inhalers and feel tied down.
I’m sorry about your health troubles and boy do I know what you mean. The most depressing part of my week is filling up my pill counter.
I have one pill, and am counting down to not needing it anymore.
Good on ya! I will never be on only one pill. But that’s okay. I like being — scratch that. i was about to say I like being sane, but I’m not and wouldn’t like it if I was. Rather I should say that I like not feeling horrible and not hallucinating. 😉

ParticipantYou did very well…I wish my legs looked like that!
Thanks for the compliment 🙂 , but if you take a closer look at my legs in the pic that Olav posted of us at our laptops — and frankly I hope nobody does 😳 — you’ll see my lovely cellulite. Still I suspect my legs aren’t as unsightly as I think they are.
Meanwhile I don’t care. I wear short shorts (not THAT short) because they are comfortable, and if they make anyone reach for the eye-bleach, that’s too freaking bad. 😛

ParticipantCaradoc I do hope that copy of Stranger in a Strange Land is the unabridged version his wife put out, and not that mini-version he was forced to publish way back in the day?
Personally I think they both have their charm. The longer version didn’t go through the editor mill that all books go through, even Master RAH’s, because it was deemed too long before anyone even looked at it. Probably, if he had been interested in publishing something not as squished as the originally published work, the result would have been something in between the two versions. I think it would lean towards the one Ginny published, but I have my doubts that it would be that exact book.

Participantjustkat: that shot of you reading just oozes peace and relaxation.
I guess I did it right, then, since I had 10 seconds to get from the trigger to “relaxing” 😉
That actually wasn’t my difficulty… my difficulty was getting a pose that was relaxed yet not horribly unflattering. 😛 The first shot shall never see the light of day. I mean, I know I’m getting old, but… gah! lol

Participantcurious – I forgot that was an OBO post when I commented on it. So, uh, nevermind. lol

Participantheh. made it onto the top ten at the end of the contest by the skin of my teeth, as they say. And what drops off for me when FSM refreshes at the start of the next contest? My 76 votes from the macro bugs contest. *head desk*.
*waves at top ten as I zoom past it on the roller coaster that is my stats*
I’d better not completely tank farkitrol. 😉
