ParticipantThanks Farktographer, I’ll add you to the list of volunteers. We won’t be doing any of that stuff until we have actual deadlines (and find out what kind of changes the publisher wants to make, if any) but I appreciate the interest!

ParticipantJust an update on the book – Drew’s agent is currently soliciting publishers. His earliest estimate was this week but could be awhile longer. Probably not likely to hear anything until after the Vegas Fark Party since that’s currently eating up a lot of their time and energy. As soon as I know anything more, I will update you all.

ParticipantNo worries, I actually forgot about it until I looked at the FSM to see my recent vote avg goal for this week and was momentarily confused by the 150+ votes hehe

ParticipantThe Colonial Kitchen Sink. You get a bumper sticker if you eat 75% or more (it really is about the size of a single kitchen sink)

ParticipantCeramics wouldn’t be considered glass for this but could be a fun theme on their own if you want to suggest it.

ParticipantThank you

ParticipantHmm let me look…why yes there is. Learn something new every day (although admittedly what I don’t know about my camera would unfortunately probably take several days)

ParticipantDoes the 3000 not have a thumb wheel at all? With my 5000 if I want to change the EV I also have to go into the basic menu but shooting in AP the thumb wheel changes the aperture thus affecting the exposure time which I think is much easier. I generally only change EV for shooting sunsets or other supremely vivid colors. There should be a bracketing option in the basic menu too, it only takes a second to access it. Theoretically on the 5000 there’s some hotkey buttons I could set that would allow me to flip to 2.0 bracketing and back but I’ve been too lazy to figure out how to do so.

ParticipantA circular polar filter also helps when shooting through glass at an angle. My CP was my very best friend in Vegas.
Hope Kes doesn’t read that 🙂
Oh he let me borrow it 🙂

ParticipantOrionid and I routinely shoot 500-1000 pictures on a shooting venture. It can take days or weeks to work through and process all the ones we like. I generally reject 3/4 of the ones I take for processing which includes the same-subject-but-slightly-different shots.

ParticipantThere are probably other ways but I can think of a few options.
1. use a tripod and a longer exposure with no flash
2. go into your flash settings (menu -> flash -> manual ->) change to a lower setting like 1/8th to reduce glare
3. shooting at an angle if you’re shooting through glass
4. use an off camera flash to the side of where you are shooting fromKestrana
ParticipantI actually laughed out loud at it.

ParticipantWith silhouettes my thought is, a shadow is black. Taking a picture of a shadow would be taking a picture of a black object. A silhouette is a shadow on the object casting it. Thus a silhouette is also black and perfectly valid for this contest.
