Participant.
The shots of people are of people just ‘being’. And that’s a rare thing to capture in any age, and I hesitate to think its at all possible in today’s age. Slight exaggeration there, but I don’t recall seeing anyone without some sign of ‘modern’ about them, or around them, any time recently. It’s hard to spot even a plain brown paper bag anymore.
I know what you mean by this but I was processing scans of some expired Velvia 35mm film I took in New York back in September yesterday and just the nature of the film made people who were temporal residents of 2010 look distinctly from the 1970s, cell phones and all. Viewed through a lens of 50-70 years, those devices will look that same as the cigarette in the one woman’s hand.

ParticipantWhen you’re doing physics, there’s usually no real time limit or important stakes resting on your shoulders (like lives, for example). Just my two cents.
You’ve never seen reactor power screaming up at 5 decades per minute. Yes, decades. As in, adding zeros on a logarithmic scale.
/Crap. Now I have to kill all of you.
Heh. Well, perhaps I should specify my particular subfield. The most dangerous thing we deal with in observational astronomy is a liquid helium dewar, which is pretty dangerous but not catastrophe dangerous.
Until you spot the asteroid that’s coming to kill us all!

ParticipantYeah Uranus that’s what really got my attention – all my entries were beating my personal average on the First Day of Voting – and none of them were in the top 10.

ParticipantAnd since no one has said it yet; This thread’s going EPIC

ParticipantBut think of the photos you’d get in the process…
I really really really love everyone here, you know that!

ParticipantHmmm….. Now I’m looking at this and thinking about an old ($$$) silver-platter variable capacitor from multi MW radio amplifiers. With this voltage (or possibly higher), and a variable cap, you could conceivably dial-down the exposure time into Edgarton-esque exposures stopping 3000fps .30 cal rifle rounds.
See, kes, you’ve nothing to worry about. Your house will be full of .30 cal holes long before it burns down. 😉
Even more of a concern considering all we have in the house right now is a 12 gauge shot gun…
Kestrana
ParticipantYou know what that means … by this time next week Orionid will have one
FWIW, though, It’ll be a while. Too many projects on the shelf already, even photo-wise, I want to make a film slit-scan and an anamorphic pinhole before anything digital, I need to finish my pinhole/zoneplate/slit cigar-box lens, and I need to clean the lenses in the antique cameras I gave Kestrana for christmas. Then I need to convert her Landcam over to 120, and convert the J66 my uncle gave me to dual 35mm.
Then maybe I’ll make a scanner camera. 😉
No, first you need to help me fix the Voigtlander so we can take the film out and I can use it again, and then develop that roll and the roll I took yesterday with the Agfa. 😀
/and also take out the trash.
//I can hear the “yes dear, of course dear, right away dear” from hereKestrana
ParticipantSpeaking of which, we should hang out some time.

ParticipantSometimes I feel like you guys are trying to make my husband set the house on fire…

Participantam I the only one not getting oi_piss_me_off ‘s shots?
I think he’s right out… 😉
Maybe he thought Travel Brochure was today, or he read the theme as “post 3 different pictures of a similar subject”Kestrana
ParticipantNot sure if it’s Flickr or my links but if you could delete the entries with the errors, I’m reposting the lilies and giraffes.

ParticipantOf all the things to double post…
Kestrana
ParticipantYeah I went straight from undergrad to post-grad and burned out from the stress. I have a healthy respect for anyone with 6+ years of college.
