    I saw this earlier and wanted to post it, but had to go out. I thought it was a fascinating study. Maybe we should do something like that here.

    I’m game. are we talking our best vote getter or just our personal favorite? you suggest it and I will up vote it for sure either way. The pictures are really cool in that way of showing the photographer and his or her most famous shot.

    That’s pretty cool. I need to bookmark that so I remember it when I can afford to get some flash equipment.

    If you camera is as nice as the one pictured in orionids post thats a cool gift.
    Last I checked I live in such a podunk little town I have to get a ride about a hundred miles I think to get film developed. Or send it through the mail and that isn’t nearly as quick.

    This theme is killing me. For me, part of the fun and creativity is in post processing. I so want to tweak these pics just a little bit…

    /but I promise I’ll just open a jpeg, resize it for Fark and post.
    //and my wife and I tease and jokingly fib so much that we had to develop the “I promise” thing while we were dating. You can’t lie even a little if you promise. 🙂
    ///like Elsinore, I shoot in jpeg/RAW double-save.

    I started doing the same thing once I got used to my Canon Rebel. Neither of my point n shoot Canons do Raw files.

    Edited to say I only meant to quote the last line.

    10mm would be almost half the sky I bet. lol The main thing that bummed me out was I tried to get all of the constellation Orion with no trails and it’s not gonna happen with the 50mm.
    As to Orionids tinkering I would do that to a simple lens from the thrift store if I could find Canon ef or efs lens’ on the cheap.

    10.5 is all the sky and some ground! Check upper left corner!

    Ooooof.I thought my 18-55 could feel wide but that is just wild.

    I shot this one with the 50mm. What issues are you having with stars? I used more ISO than I should have for this shot, so the noise is a bit high. I think I’d rather have a 35mm though to get more of the sky in most applications – I had to walk back pretty far to get the tree in the image.

    I have a Canon 50mm f1.8 and my only problem is night sky shots are not wide enough. I usually end up getting out the 18-55mm f3.5 kit lens.

    If any thing I think they do some kind of optimization process that tends to make them bigger. I can’t really see what you are talking about on that size picture. I zoomed in 200% on it even with Firefox and it seems fine to me.

    I would try stuff like that if I could just find a willing model.
