Boy am I glad I have a lot of pictures taken at night. I twisted my ankle yesterday pretty bad so getting out to take more pictures will be a real pain for the next few days. It almost feels bad enough to think it might be a hairline fracture. I’ve done that before so i know all about that. Last time the doctor gave me the choice whether I wanted a cast.

It comes down to a question of what the voters are voting on. The photo you posted or the photo you link/pop-link to or a combination of the two?

that how i feel about the ubiquitous “pops to bigger” that we see so much of. hell yeah all our entries look better bigger but the contest in held on fark with a 640 pixel width and 200KB file size.

and any captions added are to enhance the image 99% of the time. and therefore should be against the rules.

    mumble mumble mumble

I hear what you’re saying, but I’m going to continue to have the click to see larger, because, well, dammit, 640 is too damned small to judge a photo. It just is. I wish everyone would link to a larger one.

If anything gets an unfair advantage, it’s the photos that are vertical and therefore larger on the page, so they get the enlargement without the user having to go to any effort. If we’re going to go by fark’s limit of 640 horizontal, I think 640 should be the max length on any side.

I agree on every thing you said. Especially on the pops to bigger thing. I would hate the 640 on any side thing but it would be more fair in a way.
I wish it would hurry up and be time for me to enter this one and see whats in this week. 9pm is 2+ damn hours away still.

i have umpteen gigabytes of gravestones but may shot some more for this. you just can’t have enough gravestones !!

plus a photo session is a good excuse for a trip to the coast.

I once had a lady friend who grew up in Louisiana and she had a freak fit the last time I went to th cemetery to take pictures. I have no problem doing so but she seemed to think it was bad luck or something. Man she yelled at me for about 20 minutes. I don’t tell her anymore.I need to go this weekend also.

Well said orionid. That pretty well says it the way I would if I was better at putting my thoughts into words.

Congrats on getting in the paper even if its a freebie.
The closest I can claim to being published is My friends got married last December and I took all the photos for them including the picture in the paper announcing their wedding. I apparently got a lot of compliments on that picture from family members of the bride. The grooms family only had one or two members that showed up for it and I don’t think they really payed much attention to the paper.

Well now I need to ask for the canon version for my b-day or x-mas. that and at least one more battery for my Rebel xs. I need a job dammit. this hobby is expensive as hell when employed . Forget about it when jobless.

I was thinking that with that close of a focus point how do you light the thing you are shooting. Is that what those ring lights that wrap around the lens are for?

On the lottery thing I should start buying them myself so I can get poor.. I mean rich.

your dragon fly is better than mine and mine was shot using a 26mm extension tube.

and while i liked my fly having dinner it wasn’t as sharp as it should have been. hand holding with manual focus and using extension tubes can be really iffy.

and my jumping spider is a classic example of shallow DOF.

the big plus to the not really macro macro lenses is better DOF and more usable shots.

Thanks. that was taken with the 55-250 lens with the focus all the way in and me wobbling back and forth till I liked the focus if I remember correctly. Slightly cropped but not much

Ha ha. I didn’t really think so but until I can find a job getting a true macro lens or even the extension rings is gonna have to wait. I gave it the best my current stuff can get for macro.

I would have a hard time holding a ruler up to that wasp but I am guessing it was around 2 centimeters or so. The google tells me my camera has a 22.2 x 14.8mm sensor. I did not crop that picture at all just sharpened it. So does that mean thats a macro picture?
