ParticipantYoutube supports the following video formats:
?WebM files (Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codec)
?.MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files – (typically supporting h264 and mpeg4 video codecs and AAC audio codec)
?.AVI (Many cameras output this format – typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM)
?.MPEGPS (Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio)
?.WMV
?.FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio) (yay! They added .flv!)My Canon doesn’t do video, but your software should be able to convert it to one of these formats. You can upload up to a 2 gig file. Window’s movie maker can help you convert it to a more compressed .avi if you need to, but some .avi formats don’t upload well to youtube (forgive me for not recalling which ones at the moment.)
Keep in mind upload times are a lot slower than download times (usually), so it can take a LONG while to upload to youtube, depending on your connection speed. When I’ve had video, it’s most often from my morpheus program, and I usually will compress them to cut down the time it takes to post. Such as this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kSMTEbeWbg
It was (if I recall correctly) about a gig, cut down to about 200meg for posting. Didn’t degrade it much, either; windows movie maker is pretty good for that.
Hope this helps. You can also use movie maker to burn onto a cd-rom.

ParticipantI crossed 25K at Mormon Lake on Monday.

ParticipantThanks for the initial input, really!
#10–seriously? Of the ones I posted, I liked it the least. Why 10? I didn’t even ‘sharpen’ it (it looks a little better to me, but still…)
I had the opportunity to go into work and look at the shots on the various work-model computers. I found #1 to be way over-saturated on some monitors, and looks better than on my other monitors than my own. that makes it really hard to decide where I’ve gone to far and where else not enough.
#2 I really like. I took a number of shots at various focal lengths through my two lenses paired with the Darlot. I have a close-up (3 ‘florets’) that’s good, but not as well focused. Still, in some applications it’s an awesome shot. I’d retry maybe in the next morning. Then the storm kicked in, that night. The next day–no chance to better it.
#3 MIGHT go into Autumn, or A Day in the Life.
No Fun Guy comments? I thought I did well on the macros. The star pics are something of a ‘fail’, but it was just nice to capture something that didn’t turn out light-polluted brown for a change. I did get much closer lightning shot–enough so that it overexposed the sensor and is as crappy as the one here. *sigh* Lightning…

ParticipantChoc. It did say, “Fungus, lichens, molds, and mosses. “. Just sayin. 😉
I think the theme sprung from the idea of teeny tiny plant life, a sort of Macro-Plant crossbreed theme–which makes sense, we’ve done macro-bugs after all.
My only REAL sadness comes from the realization that several years ago, after I’d paid two grand to a doctor for a ‘script for half a grand in medication which, to work, required the elimination of 4 pairs of footwear including snakeskin cowboy boots costing another half grand in themselves,
I never thought to take any pictures.
[crickets chirp]
Bwah, ha, ha, ha, ha! Had ya going there! Ba dum-bump! I’m here all night.
I did take pictures. Except at the time, I had no mega-macro. So you can’t see anything cool.

ParticipantEgads, after a beer’s worth of contemplation, I think I got all the jovial references.
That’s a first.
Go ahead–quiz me. I think I’m catching on.
No–that was just a snag on the hose.
My bad.

ParticipantAbout 18 years ago when I was first reintroduced to the PC (having lapsed 10 or so years), I downloaded a program called ‘Fractint’ (I still have it), which intro’d me to Mandelbrot and fractals.
I haven’t used it in ages (it’s not on this 3 year old machine), but I know I still have it on CD (burned from 3.5s maybe 10 years ago?) It taught me a new way of viewing mathematics, and a new way of viewing art–and nature.
RIP

ParticipantYou stole my cat for portraiture and I didn’t get a cut!! 😯

I always knew he was a little tramp! 😕
I’ve seen aMAZing macro shots from this group. Seriously amazing shots. But–should the opportunity arise–if you come across a Dalton lens, at an estate sale (probably attached to some other fandangled antique setup), and it’s only $45:
Buy it. Don’t quibble–just do it.
It will be ages before I can afford a ‘real’ macro lens. But I continue to learn to *adapt* to ghetto 1870’s technology–and I’m really quite proud of the shots I can capture, albeit with some difficulty–I’ve become so much more impressed with the lens. There are optical effects I don’t see elsewhere in macro, and *some* of them, I like to think, work to make really great shots.
Granted, you won’t get the variable field of view (well, not to the extent…) and depth of field (ditto), but for the money…
I love your shot of [ahem] my Blerticus. 😉 How do you get him to stand still for portraiture? I have SUCH a hard time with that….

ParticipantI think you’ll maybe have better luck up North than I did, they’ve had colder nights lately.
I guess maybe I did. I got some outstanding shots with the AD macro (lichen and mosses, in particular).
Now I have to whittle the selection of 15 or so down to three (well, two are near certain to have been chosen already, but the third choice will be a challenge.)
And there’s always that chance of total failure at the polls anyway, lol.
(p.s., a couple of the ‘really good but not as good as them other ones’ are in the gallery posted tonight.)

ParticipantFor my part (as the suggestor for ‘Travel Brouchure’), my theme is related to things that would be promoted on a travel brouchure–readily identifiable to anyone who might have been there. So ‘the trip to and from’ wouldn’t relate. I believe this theme is more broad than that, though confirmation would be nice.
FWIW, ‘Travel Brouchure’ was decided to be held back for some time, to keep the two from being done too close to each other. Maybe sometime in the 2nd half of next year.

ParticipantDisturbing image (I’m a little more vanilla than that), but congrats on being published. 🙂

ParticipantI’ve been digging, but I can’t find that picture series yet.
*drat* This is the problem with 25K pictures and no organization to them.
I’m hoping for at least autumn colors. The lichens will be a gimme, as may some mosses. Molds and shrooms, not so much, perhaps.

ParticipantRavnostic: [swears he posted this last night, but given his drinking habits, mayhaps not.]
My thoughts on ‘Travel’:
If you’re someplace you wouldn’t be in your regular routine (including employment ventures), it’s traveling.
If you go someplace specifically to take pictures (esp. for one of these contests), it’s traveling.
If you walk three paces without the ball touching the court, it’s traveling.
Okay, maybe two out of three, for this contest’s purposes.
“Show us where you’ve been.” = pretty open, and let the voters decide the finer points.

ParticipantGlad you mentioned that, kashari–I’ll have to dig for it, but there was the most beautiful translucent toadstool a couple months ago that I captured–I might need it for this contest!!
(In other news, I’ll be up near Flagstaff tomorrow, for ‘Autumn’, ‘Travel Photography’, and whatever else I can get–lichens will probably be among them. *Must remember to bring the Darlot for macro…*)

ParticipantTwo people separated by how many 1000’s of miles (Phx, Fukuoka) post nearly the same comment at the same time, down to the use of the word ‘particular’.
Life’s little coinky dinks! So obviously we’re both right about the shot. 🙂
