You guys make life worthwhile! The internet part of it, at least.

You say that as though there is some “other” part of life. Tell me more of this strange idea.

It’s the pre-process part, where you actually click the shutter. 😉

Just back from shooting a big Improv Everywhere event, in the middle of six thousand people with no pants on and I am one of the official photographers…seriously, how can I give that up? You know, housing court in NYC takes at LEAST six months to evict you, if I keep paying SOME of the rent…

What’s this like scheat, Orionid? +1 baby.

I think I just spooged a little, but I’m getting older; could have been a new bladder control issue.

What I love about these new ILC’s is they’re small. I think you could sneak them into places that don’t allow ‘fancy’ cameras and the guards who searched you might not even know. Not a fan of the sensor-based effective crop factors, though. Since the lenses are built for it, though (well I presume they are), I’d love to try shooting one just for kicks.

When I was out of work a couple months years ago, if it weren’t for an Aunt, I’d have moved back in with the ‘rents. In this economy, age is not an issue–I have a number of friends who’ve done it, my group is in the 40-50 yrs bracket.

Do not sell your gear. Sell your kidney before you sell your gear. More to say regarding that, but am hosting a photowalk today and have to go ATM. Please p.m. me here. I will be back in 8 hours or so.

I’ve always been happy with them, from before I really gave a crap about who was who and what was what, though using their services and then working with them as an employee, and now, years after that. And of course, my needs, thusfar, have been small.

    What’d they do ta’ya?

But–more importantly, are you getting a better deal? I’ve paid for hosting through like 2014 or something but thereafter…

I will check out that video, Farktographer, thanks! I figured reflectors–which are pretty cheap, really, I’ll probably buy a couple. Extra hands are in the works. I will be talking with Sylvia on Saturday regarding the details, and I plan a trip to the wedding site long beforehand so I can scope things out a bit. Lots of reading, research–basically prepare myself the best I can. I think I’ll just rent a couple faster lenses in case I’ll need them for anything that might be ‘interior’.

I had that and a bunch of goofy crap like that on an 8track tape when I was a youngster (8 or 10 at the oldest). I own several canes.I even have one with a glass doorknob for the handle made just for whippersnappers who tease me about being old . I guess I will get over the voting changes whether I like it or not right now.
edited because I cannot write an easy to read sentance with out rereading it 4 times.

Could you bump the font on that last bit, please? My eyes ain’t what they used to be, sonny…

Matt Suess used a Gorilla on our photowalk in Tucson. It was pretty cool watching him wrap it up to utility poles and such to capture a shot he’d otherwise not get. That’s all I got, though. The 50mm f1/4 should be good for portraits, if your sensor is ‘cropped’; it would work out to near 85mm. I’ve got the Canon 50mm f/1.8 and it’s great for portraiture.

So I’d assume that a RAW format couldn’t be adjusted, just converted to JPEG…correct?

That’s actually a question I had as well – what does SOOC mean when shooting RAW? Aside from adjusting curves (obviously a no-no for this contest), anything else that could be changed in post could also be set in-camera so that the JPEG SOOC would be the same as the post-processed JPEG converted from RAW.

My take on that was that I’d better set my camera accordingly–before taking the shot. There’s been a lot of bracket shots going on in this region… 😆

It would be nice to win one, but I think I have a slower learning curve on this than most; or I simply don’t jive with the voters.
Also, I’d like to participate more in the G+ photography community. I think I could learn a lot there, as well.

One thing I’ve picked up on from the G+’rs is to critique photography. Decide why you like a shot, what elements you like about it, the colors, range, tone, lines, curves, bokeh, ‘flavors’–whatever. Define what’s made a shot good for you. Then emulate that.

And–this is what crop, and white balance, and a few other things are made for. You’ve had some good shots–some great ones–that could be made better in post processing. 😀

I could write a script similar to the one that adds Places to the voting results page that would hide usernames, but it would be strictly voluntary to use it and you’d have to divert your eyes before applying it as the names would be visible until then.

There’s this online contest thingy where every week is a different theme, and you can post up to three pictures. It can be kind of tricky, I’m to understand, as the people who vote are notoriously fickle and such, but I think this year I’m going to try to participate with three pictures every week.

Funny that you mention this. I was thinking of making this my 2012 project. However, already I’m struggling to find content for the first contest of the year. Gah!

Come to my desert. There’s plenty of room for all.
