ParticipantSame here. My stuff was rather unexciting. So I lit it on fire. Museums sometime catch on fire, right?

ParticipantI was thinking I wouldn’t have anything interesting at all to post this week.
Then I realized that I could grab some stuff from the abandoned mine next door.Waaaa! Not fair! I want an abandonded mine too! 🙁
I have nothing photographed (yet) for this theme. I spent all of my photo time this weekend doing head-swap photoshops for a graduation dinner powerpoint thing. I actually had a lot of fun doing it but I’m sort of bummed about the lack of real photography.

ParticipantI found a new creepy baby. Weird, but I did.
I’m happy for you. I know how much it means. 🙂
/actually kinda serious.

ParticipantHow about candy? Candy is pretty.
/When I was a kid I would go on vacation with a special box full of candy. I think it was some dead relative’s old make-up or jewelery case.

If that happens, the broken (or merely hiccupping) image gets zapped. IThanks Elsinore! I appreciate the help. Maybe I should start using a new image host…
Perhaps a discussion should be started in one of the forums about which image hosts are good, fee vs free, etc.
/just read above. Didn’t mean to sound hoity-toity, hey-you-get-off-of-my-thread. 🙂

Participantsoosh, the puppy paws one makes me happy. I like the abandoned..thing…too.

Participantdamn, I totally forgot yesterday was Wednesday.
I was wondering where you were. You’ve got to have some mossy Alaskan trails in your files.
/post a few here for S & G’s?

ParticipantCorsec67, I think that a pelican case (just googled) would be just fine. Thanks.
Is that a brand name or a style of case? Are they all waterproof? I’m off to do more searching and reading.

ParticipantVoting should be interesting this week.
I agree. When I was first coming up with ideas for this one I thought of…well…trails. Y’know, like people and animals walk on. As I got into it, I realized the wide variety of possibilities. I like what I’m seeing so far.

That last one is from a chairlift with a Canon Elph.

ParticipantU-man, that boat wake pic is beautiful!
Thanks. You too, corsec67.
That was shot over my shoulder with the Canon point-n-shoot I carry when I’m fishing. If I catch a nice one, I want a pic or two before releasing it. Plus, there’s always something cool happening in, on or by the river in the early AM.
I would like to have my SLR in the boat but I worry about dirt and water. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a safe case. A bouyant one might be nice. 🙂
/haven’t actually researched this.
//probably should just google it.

ParticipantDoes it have to be regular ‘everyday’ stuff? My 10 year old and I were exploring down by the river (good excuse for me to get out of the house with my camera) and we found some old bones. We have the skull and mandible of…something. Perhaps it belonged to a raccoon. Could I set that up all museum-like and submit it? If not, we found bottles, somebody’s construction hard-hat, etc. that I can shoot.

ParticipantThat 100mm macro lens should have really good bokeh, because it is almost impossible to get everything in focus when doing a true macro (1:1) shot with that kind of lens.
It also seems to make any bug move twice a fast, go in a different direction or simply fly away right before it is in focus. 🙂

ParticipantMaybe I’ll use corsec67’s set up too. Thanks for the input.

ParticipantI agree with many of the comments and I’m getting into photography enough to appreciate the discussion. However, my initial intent for this theme was pretty simple. I just wanted to see a bunch of pics where the subject ‘pops’ because the background and foreground are fuzzy. I wanted to work on this basic technique. I think that a fair number of our participants are relatively inexperienced and this could push them a little too.
A couple of hours walking around with just my 100 mm macro has already taught me to pay more attention to the background.
The idea that different lenses produce different quality of bokeh is something that I have read before. But it never really sunk in until reading schnee’s comment. I’ll have to actively notice that over the next few weeks. Perhaps I’ll take a bunch of pics with the same set up using all of my lenses and decide for myself.
/another example of farktography helping me get better at something I enjoy. 🙂

ParticipantI’ll try to stay within the spirit of the rules, so I won’t tell specifically which picture it is. But, I’m sure you can figure it out.
Thanks for respecting the rules. By the letter of the law, I see no problem posting the background for your photo here. It had no caption on the Fark thread and certainly was able to speak for itself. It was one of my favorites for the whole thread and got my vote. I like it even more knowing that it has been bulldozed. Nice work and welcome aboard.
