Welcome CauselSaidSo. It’s nice to have new folks show up. FWIW, I agree with your opinion about last week. But I wouldn’t agree with a stricter interpretation the week before. 🙂

andyofne, I’m red-green color…ummm…deficient. I can tell a stop sign is red. I know grass is green. But it doesn’t ‘pop’. I don’t notice or enjoy colors as much as others. I might notice and enjoy differences in intensity/brightness more, though. I can’t tell which is the red one and which is the green on when doing electrical work. My wife pointed at a dead, brown pine tree in a forest and I could not tell which one was different. It’s weird.

Anyway, I had my wife help this week. She nixed a foggy tree one for too much color.

Y’know what? My input is to just avoid this conflict and fuzziness of the rules by just stating “No post-processing desauturation is allowed for this week’s theme”.

But y’know what else? I won’t cry or gnash my teeth if it is allowed.

/probably the first time I hsve typer the word “gnash”.

Holy shiat, did you ever… 🙂

I’m at work so I only glanced at it. I’ll give it a better read tonight.

Let me share some quick thoughts though. These contests are for fun and growth and the pleasure of sharing with a community. In my experience, blending all of that with my friendly, competitive attitude and the various personalities here is imperfect. While it is an overall great experience, it has flaws.

One common issue is defining clear and fair boundries so we can compete. Discontent occurs when the rules are unfair or fuzzy. I’m still kinda bothered about the ‘Rain’ theme. I’d bet some serious cash that some of last week’s better photos were not taken by passengers. But that’s small stuff. The value I get from being here far outweighs the minor problems.

Damn. I need to work. Let me wrap up by just saying that, in my opinion, the rules for this theme would be more fair if desaturation was kept to a minimum. I can’t define that minimum right now.

Can somebody quantify it? Maybe by percentile?

In my mind, desaturating by 50%, either across the entire photo or on a single color channel isn’t really “limited” saturation reduction.

    I agree.

Yeah I’m wondering if we need to amend the theme description to either emphasize the “that could be mistaken” bit and either remove or tone down the “vast majority of your picture” piece. This one’s gonna be kinda tough to police as it is, but the “pictures that could be mistaken” I think is more clear than how the “vast majority of your picture” opens it up.

If that’s what is intended (and I think it is, too) then I think the wording should be changed. Actually, we could just get rid of the last part and leave it as “could be mistaken”.

Again, if that’s what we want. I’m cool with a “vast majority” idea as well. That could be a pseudo-color-pop thing. Hey! Maybe that is a new theme idea…

Gotta go back to work. Damn patients. 🙂

Thanks K. That clarifies things. For whatever reason, my brain focused on the …vast majority of your picture… part of the description rather than on the … that could be mistaken for black and white… part.

Damn. I’ve been so busy that I didn’t even look at this theme. It’s cool. I like the idea.

I, too, need some direction. Which of these fit and which are ‘right-out’? I just did a quick run though my on-line files. Hell, I may have used some of these before. I’m just trying to stay out of trouble. 🙂

This one isn’t mine. It may be folklore. But I believe the guy who told me.

While working on a military base, he treated the wife of an American soldier. She was Asian. Her married name was Hui Suk Cox.

If so, then I am a bad, bad man. I am constantly on the lookout for funny patient names. From the original “Harry Johnson” to women with the last name of “Ho”.

However, since the photos may be technically sub-par due to motion and auto glass, I went with the outside pitch and hit to right field.

Actually, I went with regular-type pics for two of them.

A photo I took while driving (not as a passenger) that makes one recognize the importance of punctuation. 🙂
