While I cannot speak for all the Photoshoppers, I can speak as one. There is a code of courtesy that prevails and people who do not follow tend not to last long on Fark. Even if someone does violate the rules, the Moderators have always been quick to respond and correct the situation. Since we have a Mod on staff, as it were, we can assume the issue of ripping off ideas will be dealt with in a timely and professional manner. 🙂

We’re also pretty good at letting a ‘liter slide if the entry is close enough to the contest going live that it’s obvious they had a similar idea with no fore-knowledge (which is where I would fall, most of the time – I know ahead of time that Wednesday’s going to be a long night, but it does allow me to get caught up on stuff, so there’s that…).

The essence is this . . . (lots and lots of words…)

Wow! You went the scenic route!

    Honestly, it came out AWESOME.

Me? I’d have used “Liquify” and “dodge” to do the same thing. I think if we had a melt-off, though, your technique would win. It was/is an impressive shot.

Based on this discussion I finally got around to checking out a site I had bookmarked from way back but never looked at.

    The Plug-In Site: http://www.thepluginsite.com/resources/freeps.htm

Links to literally hundreds of plug-ins and filters for PS and compatible programs. I just spent over an hour downloading and installing them. I’m never gonna run out of time-wasting I can do with PS now!

Worth a look if you want to play with a huge variety of filters and plug-ins.

As one of the perpetrators of an “extreme” alteration, I was/am willing to play within whatever ruleset is established. It’s why I asked in the first place.
One reason I went with the frog is that it was mine, and after spending hours with filters (and several other source pics), I only was happy with the Warhol pic. I didn’t even get to the kaleidoscope until after I was done with the warp-tool one. I went with that particular kaleidoscope pattern as it was easy enough to see enough of the frog to get the gist of what I had started with in the other 2 pics. Although there were a couple other potentials when all was said and done, I liked the feel of having a series based on the same original pic, even though I knew I wasn’t going to do very well with at least 2 of them for that very reason.

What makes this different from PS contents is that everything still has to be the photographer’s original source material, and if that’s crap, no amount of filters, HDR, or cutting and pasting is going to change that.

I specifically kept this in mind. Both my source and my pieces were mine. When I do a warp-tool for a PS contest, usually, neither are mine. It actually made this harder than usual from a selecting sources standpoint.

Whatever the consensus is, I’ll work within the guidelines. Part of the fun (for me) is figuring out how to do that.

As for “over-processed”, I’m sure I’m an occasional abuser of that as well. Part of it is my own personal aesthetic, and part of it continues to be my home computer… when I open contests on my work computer, even I occasionally think mine are a bit more contrasty than I expected. Usually they come out right, though.

Given how rarely I do any photoshopping anymore, I did enjoy this excursion, but it’s not what I want to do every week. I want to continue to get better at photography. Somebody mentioned composition… fortunately I was trained with that in mind, so it’s usually foremost in terms of shooting and selecting. Usually.

This was fun… let’s do something else next week… shall we?

Final idea before I shut up and accept whatever changes are going to happen…

What if a line is added to the boobies post saying “Any entries submitted before Wednesday will be deleted”?

It shouldn’t take too much effort to add a deletion comment to the “victim” – “Deleted due to being submitted too early (see Boobies)”

That would keep it similar to the current system, but it would cause the mods to do a little extra work. It would also minimize OBOs for TFers who have something to do in the evenings, but can post earlier in the day (vacationers would still need OBOs).

. . . and as much as i like (seriously and sincerely) yugoboys use of the wrap tool what he plans to do tonight he has entered in PS contests here and at Misfits.

Don’t get too excited… I’ve never photographed a dragon, so it ain’t the detailed thing I’m used to making.

My other 2 are just filtered (multiple times, but filters nonetheless)

    Thanx for the compliment, BTW…

Is there anyway to list them, but non-clickably?

This would raise awareness, but keep the submission process (which is pretty standardized at this point) unaffected in any way.

The Farktophraphy tag in the (non-clickable) queue would still link to the “This Week’s Contest” over here, but people couldn’t post in the thread until 8/12 EST/EDT

Also, the “problem” with the boobies post is easily rectified as mods have the power to re-timestamp posts, allowing for them to be moved up and/or down the thread – that’s pretty much a non-issue.

Mods would, however, have to be more on the lookout for jokers who would post images that aren’t theirs (I would think). Might not happen all the time (especially in the more technical contests) but a sunset, flowers or cars contest would almost certainly have somebody trying it.

Sorry I didn’t post earlier about this, but I was wrestling pixels into place for tonight.

    No problem… just thought I’d check…

EDIT – Wound up not going that route anyway.

I’m home and ’bout to start working on mine.

Quick question… if I wanted to include the image editing program as a frame to my picture (as in showing something in mid-process etc.), do I have to photograph it, or can I do a screen capture?

This ain’t the week to gift me TF, BTW… I’m gonna need every moment between now and midnight to take care of all my other responsibilities AND finish my pics…

I *think* I have 1 done enough to submit. The warp-tool one is gonna take at least an hour to finish, and #3 is barely an idea yet…

And now I have to get rolling on “It’s bad for ya” before I wind up last-minute-ing that one, too….

OK… so playing with filters and other stuff has been less than spectacular, so I’m making a warp-tool thing. Both the source material and the animal I’m crafting are photos of mine, but not the same photos. Which photo do I use for background? The source image (which is oriented vertically and wouldn’t really match the critter)? Or the background of my creature, into which my creature would fit perfectly?

I’ll do whichever, I just want to know (I’m still a few hours from being done, and I’m doing no more tonight, so I can wait for a response on this… just not too long…

Yugo, I too am ridiculously happy to have the Jeep. It’s no cure for stupidity, of course (as the picture illustrates), but I’ve pulled many people out of drifts and banks the past 3 days with it and cleared more than my share of tracks through some of the smaller drifts for folks to use. Seems like every time I go out lately, I wind up breaking out the tow strap to pull someone back up onto smoother parts of the road (only had to do that once today on the way in to work).

You sir, deserve a Timmies Double Double and a pack of Tim Bits for your efforts.

    Gotcha.

Tonight, on my way home from teaching college (a 40 mile drive) the weather started bad and got worse. Fortunately, the weather stayed above 32, so the sleet and snow stayed slush and allowed me to get home safely, albeit at a slower speed than usual. Thank god I have a Jeep. I can only hope it gets colder than predicted for an ice storm that’ll shut down the schools

I’m still trying to figure out how you had to dig the Jeep out. Were you trying to go through virgin 19″ or what?

We had a snow event a couple weeks ago that came close to paralyzing the city (yeah… in the NE… go figure), and I just kept trying to find the right route because everyone was going soooooooooooooo ssssssslllllllooooooooowwwwwww. My Jeep and I were just bounding through it when we got some open roads.

19″ is quite a bit, though… I’m impressed, and not at all jealous.

The only problem with this year’s winter is the two major snows that would have gotten schools cancelled (and me a day away from the middle school demons) happened over Winter Recess and a Friday afternoon. If we’re gonna have enough snow to shovel (my wife’s 4×4 is even bigger than my Wrangler) I want the reward of no middle schoolers. Hate ’em … all week, every day…

I doubt I’ll get picked myself; looking at the top selling Getty stuff, everything is studio, with white backgrounds. Pretty boring, if you ask me. But I’m not the one buying the stuff. Advertisers seem to sure like white.

It’s easier to stick in catalogs, magazines, brochures and other publications. I suppose black would also work, but shadows don’t show up as well.
