Participantwhere i am it’s hard to define lake/pond/marsh sometimes. does that matter?
I was wondering the same thing. The campsite we’ve been visiting the last few years is on a “pond,” but I’ve been to lakes that were way smaller.

ParticipantFinally came up with 3 pics of one of our more distinctive downtown office buildings. All 3 are quite different from each other.
Phew.

ParticipantI’m gonna peruse the archives, but for the moment, I got a big ol’ set of nada for this one. Just not overly inspired, and been 60 kinds of busy.
Got Lakes covered, though, so no worries…

ParticipantI’m good with that, too. As this was an executive decision and not a voted up theme, I’m fine with using the original definition. If I’m still here in 2 years and remember to submit it as a theme, I’ll define it my own way (which will be super-liberal), but I’m OK with simply going berserk with filters and monkeying with settings being the point of this. It also keeps the playing field somewhat level, as not everyone has my experience with Photoshoppery, but many people have had fun with filters, blend modes and screwing around with settings.
(And it’ll save me from about 3-4 hours of work on the buskers pic)

ParticipantYeah. Sounds good. And as for the “creative” part: in a project like this, where the people become invisible and their sleeves and collars are empty, you have to do something to show the back of the shirt. I usually rely on a piece from elsewhere in the picture, so I’m still in the OK on that one.

ParticipantOK… I’m unlikely to do a warp-tool creature, just because that would be (maybe) too extreme.
However, I’m in the preliminary stages of making a couple Canadian buskers invisible. This is straight-up Photoshop clone-tool plus select, cut and paste (with a little creativity added in). Am I OK on this, or should I just dick around with various filters and the like?

ParticipantOffice supplies are good, too, no?

ParticipantAlso, (nearly) everybody has a pet or 2 or at least knows people with pets. Not everyone goes to car shows, or cares to do the work some other themes require (like sepia). My cat? 15 photos yesterday as he played with string. Pink? Where? I’m a man, baby!

ParticipantWhatever works for you man. Whatever works for you. Are you not using the hopper then? I noticed hoppered threads in the forum but not added to the hopper post.
Honestly, I never used it before, so I didn’t notice it. I’ll look into it later (when I update the Themes We’ve Used thread) when I get time.

ParticipantWe do have the as yet unspoken (I think, haven’t made a thorough review) rule for this that all the photos must be yours. This means at least we won’t have the looter guy, paint huffer guy or whoever the darling of the week is showing up.
But even if that caveat is made, if I make a warp-tool creature with one of my photos is that kosher or is that going too far?
Not that I’m planning on doing that… heck, I still have to get my pets together for tonight… but given that February Recess starts Friday afternoon, if I’m allowed to go that far, I just might. While the suggestion is to be liberal, at what point are we so open-minded our brains fall out?

ParticipantNow I’m second thinking…damn…how do we thread the consistency needle on this one?
Liberally. The contest literally screams for software post-process overload. I would be generous about it.

ParticipantI was going to suggest starting a blogspot blog and opening it up to participants to contribute to. I know you’d have to play with the permissions and stuff, but it’s another option.
The thing you found looks like it is probably easier to set up for your purposes.

ParticipantQuery: Can I make a photomosaic? I ask because it’s an image made up of photos, so it may occupy a grey area.
Yugoboy, I just saw that no one had commented on this yet, so here’s my two cents: As I recall, photomosaics are fine for this contest, but each photo (used as a “pixel” in the mosaic) is counted as being “used” and thus cannot be re-used in a future contest (that doesn’t explicitly allow reposts). Conversely, each component photo cannot have been entered in a prior contest.
That’s what’s kept me away from them mostly in contests where they might otherwise be allowed – the thought of “burning” so many potential future entries in one shot.
I suddenly thought of a good use for all those too dark, too light, too blurry photos I never get around to deleting…

ParticipantI follow the Hippocratic Oath when it comes to photography: First, do no harm. Unless there is a compelling reason I will never release a photo showing my subject in an unflattering light. And the compelling reason cannot be “I get a paid a lot of money”
I have done the same thing. I even say the same thing when shooting people. “I’ll never make you to look bad.” Puts people at ease. And, unless we’re going for goofy face, I make sure I follow through.
