    Choc-Ful-A: Got it

Thank you, somewebguy was happy to hear it’s enabled! A cat so huge is fills a box designed to hold 32 pounds of brown sugar prolly deserves a few votes.

Elsinore or some other passing mod, I’m proxying a request from somewebguy to please enable voting for his second photo in the contest. He accidentally forgot to flip the switch when he posted but is having trouble logging into this sight. I suggested he ask here since the contest thread is so huge, but I can ask him to post there if you need to get the request directly from him. We work together so it’s not a problem to get in touch with him. 🙂

It’s the giant cat in a box photo timestamped 2008-07-31 02:54:35 AM. Also in case it’s useful this should link to the image directly.

The only problem with Zeke‘s entry this week is that I didn’t think of it. 🙂

I’m really pleased to see all the boobies from the new Farktographers. There are some awesome people there, and seeing Yammering Splat Vector there was delicious. He could be a force to be reckoned with.

Also, Fascist Farktography contest? WTF, mate? (from the Caturday thread)

FYI, this week pulled a handful of people that normally do PS contests into the fray. And Yammering Splat Vector is already a force to be reckoned with in that context. 🙂

I could use some help narrowing down my shots as well if anyone wants to look through the cat picks at the beginning of my photostream too – http://www.flickr.com/photos/guine/
And if we really wanted to bring fark(and possibly flickr) to their knees we could try to start a second thread without voting for all the shots that didnt make the cut for this week.

Again, at the risk of just confusing things late in the process, I like “chester 2 on mat 2”, “do not want” (great shot!) and “play time 2”.

    Your mileage may vary. 🙂

Every person I’ve asked about which shots to submit have said completely different things.

If you feel like helping a stapler out. I’m totally useless with this. As soon as there’s a cat in the shot my brain can’t go further than “YOU’RE A KITTY!”)

For what it’s worth (maybe I’m just adding to the confusion?) narrowing it down to therr, I like #1, #3 and #7 the best. The black cat in #7 just looks like a total sweetheart. So an interesting crop on excuses could be pretty terrific too.

    …text deleted…
Today the little bastard sat there while I picked up the camera, fumbled to notice it wasn’t on and then to notice and rectify the fact that the CF card wasn’t in it… As soon as I zoomed on him, he flew away.

Something similar happened to me recently when I tried to take a picture of a hawk perched on a phone/power line. I drove past and noticed it was sitting perfectly still framed against a nice backdrop, ran some errands and drove back ~20 minutes later. When I saw the hawk hadn’t moved I stopped and did a U-turn where I could (about 1/2 mile further), drove back, parked across the street, got my camera out of the trunk, quickly took a couple shots with a telephoto lens (which I knew would be blurry since I had to zoom to 300mm from where I was), then setup my tripod. When I turned around I noticed the hawk had flown off and was nowhere to be found. So he sat still for over 25 minutes only to leave while my back was turned to setup a tripod. I have two blurry shots to prove it happened and an amusing story, but nothing else.

For what it’s worth, here’s a shot I like but decided not to submit this week (since the birds are the main focus of the image).

    Pelicans at sunset

It’s from yet another set I took documenting how severe the wildfire smoke/ash has been. I don’t know why capturing images of the side effects of the fires is so compelling to me. It’s not as if wildfires are a new phenomena in California. But they are much worse this time and the visual impact to people hundreds of miles away is pretty surreal.

I tried not to post this, but sometime the NY Post headlines in my head must be broadcast…

I really hate when animals are hurt by careless people’s leftovers, so the U-Man‘s story about helping that unfortunate goose really made my day. I have stories from my father about dumbass fisherman hooking him as he was skindiving in Delaware. So I can easily image how someone snagged a goose.

My first one was “Hit The Road”, then “Burning a CD”, and then “Shooting Coke”. The coke one is similar to the one I entered in the contest “On the Wagon”, but taken a few weeks after that contest.

I thought the first one was “go pound sand”, which is a phrase a love.

I hope mine are relatively easy to guess

I have no idea what your hat one is

    /or harpo’s beets or staplermofo’s entries or Choc-Ful-A’s entries or Soosh’s entries or … well I don’t know a lot OK!

As usual, I can’t get most of these ([‘m terrible at this sort of puzzle thingy), but I had fun trying. 🙂

Also not surprisingly, I misunderstood the rules. I thought we were supposed to submit multiple entries for the same word/phrase. No biggie…

FYI, my phrase was supposed to bring the PSAEF cliche sig tag “/lens flare” to mind. So a geeky visual text joke comparing “lens flare” to “/lens flare”.

I’ve been to the 8×10 club many, many times so I know what the place looks like in person and I’m surprised at how spacious the shots make the stage seem. Nice job!

Admittedly I haven’t been there in a very long time, but from the angles and perspectives it looks like the same building layout. Thanks for a blast from the past. I don’t even mind the creepy sense of nostalgia and renewed desire to move back to the east coast. 🙂

Here’s a couple I took in Santa Cruz tonight. I was on the other side of the harbor using a tripod and a telephoto lens (yeah I was “that guy” this year). The exposures were very long, which is why the boats are leaving light trails. Someone in the crowd claimed the object in the sky in the last shot was some form of flare not a typical firework. It was definitely odd. It seemed to hang motionless for awhile then very slowly descend towards the ground.

Those are great shots, and I’m jealous that you got to go take them. 🙂 But for what it’s worth I also really, really like the shot in the gallery you linked with the exhalation/spray wafting up into the sky. It’s the 9th one down from the top… I hope this doesn’t sound too stuffy, but the combination of delicate vertical movement (vapor) with the powerful horizontal movement (ocean waves) screams “hey something big is going on under the water where you can’t see” to me. When a photo tells you about things that aren’t explicitly shown in the image that’s pretty cool.

i have a good 7 or 8 favs to pick from too, i think im going to avoid the flowers and bugs and make a desperate last minute attept to veer away from that.

I love this theme too and vote for adding it to the classic/repeat list.

In ended up creating 26 “ready to post” images for this one and sent them to a couple of friends for their feedback. I still have no idea which I’m going to submit.
