ParticipantThank you to Elsinore and NoBigDeal for the congrats!
It looks like I’ll be posting myself tonight. Wasn’t able to catch any work to be able to start early. I just hope I don’t run out before the end of the night. Hopefully, work will be kind and I”ll be done around 1 ish.

ParticipantThat’s why I plan on linking to a picture that is next to the Paul Bunyan statue that has some information on the statue, and I’ll keep the text brief. I’d link to a site, but can’t find anything consistent with what the sign says, or between sites. My two pictures are of that statue, though only one shows the whole thing. I’ll be curious to see if anyone else posts a Paul Bunyan statue.
Kestrana – Thank you for offering to post OBO for me. As usual, I’m still undecided about what will happen tomorrow night. I’ll likely be up regardless because there’s no work on my account in the mornings, but it comes in the afternoon/evening, so even if I do start early I may not be able to achieve a full 8 hours of work before that late anyway. If I am able to clock out early, or take a half day with 4 hours PTO to cover the rest to kick it and rest before heading to the hospital way too early the next morning, then I’ll be sure to send you an e-mail. I mentioned it to Husband after he got home tonight and he pretty much said I may as well stay up and post myself because I’ll more than likely be anxious about the next morning and not able to sleep anyway.

ParticipantHave a small dilemma here, could use some advice. I have 2 pictures I want to post for this contest, and a third that isn’t a monument picture, but rather the accompanying sign with some info about the monument, so not looking to post that for voting, just as a link. The issue? I’m heading to the hospital Thursday morning, to be there at 6 a.m. to have the baby (c-section). I’d normally be up to post after midnight when it goes green, but I’m going to try to get work finished early so I can possibly go to bed early to have some amount of decent rest (possibly) before I have to be up and at ’em for the hospital. Obviously, won’t be near a computer, and my parents will be here to help with Atrus, etc. No one is going to be in any shape or mood to pause to post this for me here, so it’s either stay up and do it myself, or ask one of you.
So, should I stay up anyway (as I’ll likely do anyway because I’m used to being up at 1 and 2 a.m.) or ask for an OBO? I have the clicky-pop html text and stuff all ready to go, it just needs to be posted come the right time. Thanks for any input.

ParticipantHoly crap. I thought this one was next or something and the Monumental one was tonight! Whoops. I usually never mix these things up. Guess I’ll be unintentionally skipping since I don’t really have anything. Bummer. I do look forward to the pictures tonight. 🙂

ParticipantI’m 99.9% certain I will have a photograph of a “unique” statue. Unless there are any other central Maine farktographers, I’ll be the only one with such an entry. 🙂
We ended up in Bangor again today (overcast, though) and I had my camera on hand, and I asked if we could head by the Paul Bunyan statue because I remembered this contest. That thing is ginormous at 31 feet tall (the sign claimed it to be the tallest, I think). Not sure what else I will enter (if anything else), but that is one definite monumental statue!

ParticipantThanks, Elsinore!

ParticipantElsinore, in looking/voting this morning, I realize I didn’t enable voting on my third one. Can you do that for me? Thanks. 🙂

ParticipantDo slugs count? I have a couple of shots of slugs that might work. If not, I have some other bugs to consider, though not many.

ParticipantI disabled html in the last post so I could get my link formula to not get screwed up, so I thought I’d post my B-sides in a different post:

ParticipantI would have posted earlier, but our internet popped out for a bit when I was done with work, and then the Photobucket site was down for maintenance so I couldn’t upload my pictures. I said screw it and went to bed. I recalled someone asking how to pop to bigger pictures. Hopefully, this won’t get screwed up in posting, but this is the formula I use. Replace big (inside the quotes) with the link to the big pictures and the small in quotes to the small picture. The quotes have to stay in.

ParticipantI’m looking forward to seeing lots of different plant pictures. Sadly, nothing’s quite blooming up here (a little early), but I do have some from last year and the year before. Might comb through some of my apple blossom pictures and pick one of those.

ParticipantSweet. Thanks. 🙂

ParticipantThe pictures we choose. Do they have to have been entered into a contest? And if we don’t have ones from that category that we want to enter, the other classifying entity is favorite photos, thereby making this a semi free-for-all?
Thanks (in advance) for clarification.

ParticipantI don’t see why putting something with the microscope to show that you still use it would be bad, so I guess that’s an okay from me.
I still sleep with my stuffed animals (ok, its only one, but still) and I’m 27 and share the bed with my husband, too!

ParticipantExcellent advice. Thank you! I’ll pass this on to Mom. I know there are other old pictures, so getting them all done at once while we’re doing this may be a good option. She has a scanner and we have a scanner, but I’m not interested in bringing them here. I’m not sure if my sister has shown any interest in genealogy or not, and if she isn’t, that means I’ll be the one getting all those items in the future, and hopefully we’ll have a bigger house by then to properly store things.
Husband has 90% alcohol for electronics stuff, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get more. Latex or cotton gloves should also be easy to come by.
I haven’t seen any writing on the backs of the photos so far, but I also haven’t handled them much. Mom does have some photo boxes, but I’m not sure how many, or if there are any empty ones; nor am I sure of their sizes. They could be only big enough for 4 x 6 prints, in which case we’ll have to get something bigger as a few are closer to 8 x 10.
Thanks again for the advice! I will definitely put it to use as I want to be able to share these pictures when my kids are older (and possibly with the grandkids).
