I chose two things to “practice” with, I guess. One was my son’s tricycle in the yard. I set up the tripod and took at least 4 sets of shots, from the lowest exposure to the highest exposure, each set being at a different angle. I’m not sure the lowest exposure is even dark enough, but Hubby seems to know what to make of it, so he’s fooling in Photoshop trying to figure out how then I can do it. My second round of shots was on our bikes in the back. The sun comes through in patches (yay, trees), but it was still really light so I did the best I could. We’ll see how they come out.

They’re not exactly fantastic, but perhaps it will give me a better idea of what to go with in the future. Hubby has a cracked version of full Photoshop, and I have Photoshop Elements, using an extra copy a friend got by accident. Apparently it’s way harder to do it in Elements, hence why he’s figuring out what to do on his end. I haven’t a clue what most of the terminology means with layers and masks and such.

I might try a set of exposures in the house since the potential for darkness and over-exposure is greater. I’ll just have to figure out what to use. The cat could be a fun one since he just lays there like “whatever” when he’s napping. 🙂

Does anyone else noting the link for Farktography getting moved “earlier” in the night on 03/31 instead of staying on 04/01 where it normally would be?

Wish I had something meaningful to add, but I’m all out of bad-ass-ery on my end. Nothing in my life, or any of my possessions, much less anywhere I’ve been since I got my camera, screams “bad ass” so I’m just enjoying your pictures instead. 🙂

Are there any scenes or particular subjects that lend themselves to HDR? I’m having difficulty coming up with something near by to use, and given that the snow is finally almost all gone it’s now easier to get out to shoot. I’m so uninspired and out of ideas lately, it’s sad. I’m contemplating using some of the fake flowers I have to see if HDR will lend to making them seem more real. Nothing’s sprouting yet, much less blossoming, so I’d have to purchase to use real flowers.

I’m shamed to admit that I really only vaguely thought of this entry until today, and then I realized that I had nothing to go with. There’s also nothing really inspiring around here or all that fantastic for architecture, so none of it I really want to photograph. There’s a bridge near my parents house that I’ve always wanted to take pictures of, but we’ve had little reason or ability to go there recently, maybe this summer. I prefer bridges over buildings, and even with the L.O. on the way due in June, I plan to go at least one or two places in the state for possible light hiking and photo opportunities. Perhaps I’ll get something for a future contest. 🙂 I look forward to seeing the entries tonight for sure as it will give me ideas for later. 🙂

Nice job on the scarves! Of course, I’m still an amateur/newbie so that may not mean much. I thought I was the only one with the curly corners, so that makes me feel better. I had Hubby pick out the yarn for Baby #2’s blanket (browns/greens). I’m on skein 4 now, about 1/3 of the way through. I will post a picture when it’s done, and I’ll be sure to take one of Kiddo #1’s blanket that my great aunt Gladys made for him. My sister is due in September with her first, and I thought I’d make one for her since it seems to be something I’m doing lately. I’m waiting for her to get back with me about her colors/theme. My great aunt made a huge granny square, essentially. I’m doing a double crochet for the rows on the blanket. Somewhere I also started one for Hubby and I, and I have some yarn set aside for it (probably not nearly enough) that I haven’t gotten back to. I’m a couple of skeins into it.

I’ve contemplated making hot pads or something as well, but I’m worried that the heat from some things might melt the yarn, or catch it on fire. Anyone had that happen?

Can hardly believe I know others who crochet now. I thought I was a lonely-only. I’m not fantastic at it, but blankets are relatively easy to do since its the same stitch over and over for a while. There are a couple of websites that I found where I was able to learn something. I’ll probably invest in a book if/when I want to get more into it. It’s great to do while watching a movie, which I seem to do a lot of these days on the weekend.

I promise to come back tomorrow and vote, comment in the thread. Our internet died out for like 2 hours (I think they spilled beer on the servers or otherwise blew them up) and I’m crazy behind for work now. I did want to post before I forgot though (get in early to maximize voting potential, right?). It’s going to be a late night for work. Better grab some caffeine to help crank out the lines.

I’m only including 2 pictures tonight to avoid being redundant on my part. I also got lazy with this myself. I find my creative juices running low as of late, and I’ll blame the weather. I figured I at least should do something because this was my idea. So, I managed to get something about what inspired this, so I’m somewhat satisfied with the result. I’m still not sure how to make the picture of said final object better or at a better angle or something given its shiny-ness and size. I like the end product mind you, just don’t think its photogenic, or maybe I’m not a good photographer. I will have to thank my engineer-husband for putting it together though. He did way better than I would have at it. 🙂

Anyway, the work computer calls. It’s done doing it’s update that it commandeered my system for so I have to get back at it. Looking forward to what gets posted. 🙂

It’s my own theme and I have a question. Go figure.

What I originally wanted to put in were pictures of a hard drive being taken apart (my ultimate geeky thing to do). Only issue was that taking pictures of me doing it, didn’t come out so well. Plan changed photograph someone doing it, but we have no hard drives left to take apart. :(. I am having my Hubby put together, though, a wind chime of the hard drive platters, which started the whole thing anyway. He had a suggestion for putting it together that I can’t quite follow (dense on directions, here) and what I thought would work has thus far failed. It all came from my idea(s), though inspired by him. That still counts, right? Essentially, the picture will be of the hard drive platter chime. I’m quite certain I’ll have to leave some text with the picture on it anyway as it will be shiny, but based on looking no one’s really going to know why its geeky.

Other than that, the best geeky things I could think of were my music stuff and my scrapbooking, but I’m not even sure the latter qualifies as geeky, but probably more of a hobby type thing. Oh right, and I also have a tribble, gray. Not sure what to do with that though just yet. Come to think of it, we do have one of the Star Trek movies (though not any of the others just yet, even though I want them, so I might somehow use that, too.

I could have spent all weekend on this, but instead I just lazed about in the sun while it was out making a blanket and reading, then when we were inside watching my Netflix movies, and continuing said blanket.

Absolutely there were real candles in the shot. I made absolutely sure of that. Generally, it’s the front ones, or they’re most centered.

They’re some kind of oil candle thing that we were given. There are 3 of different heights. We made sure the mirrors and those were cleaned on the outside as much as possible to get the best result. ‘Twas interesting maneuvering in the bathroom to make this happen, but it did come out rather neat, I think.

I’m posted. Hope ya like. Back to work. Have a few more lines to grind out before my day is done, but at least I’m comfortable as I work!

Can there be more than one light source, if they’re right next to each other? After implementing my idea (ok, Friend’s idea that I’m shamelessly using) last night and getting a couple dozen shots, I believe I have something to use, but only a couple as the camera managed to get in way too many of them. In any case, the light source(s) is(are) in the picture, but it’s not a singular light source. Is that too much? I don’t really want to post and spoil my idea, but I will if it’ll clear up what I’m asking.

I’m likely not going to get many votes for mine either, but I still think it’s really cool. Both Friend and Husband helped set up the shot(s), so I’m kind of psyched.

Thanks for the answer, NBD. I’m not sure if I have enough shots of the same thing to make it work so that gives me something to make happen and then try out. Thanks!

So to make HDR work do you essentially take a couple of frames of the same sight in order to combine them? I know I’m asking this before I look it up or anything, but just getting a sense of the set up I need to make this happen. Thanks!

I just want to clarify something (I think I know the answer but I’m double checking). Is it okay if the entire light isn’t in the picture? When we were at my parents for Thanksgiving, I thought it was cool how their chandelier type thing made a pattern on the ceiling so I took some shots that had part of, all of, or none of the lamp in the picture. Is it okay if part of the lamp is in it, but not the whole thing? None of them are particularly fantastic, but I liked the way the light danced on the ceiling and the neat pattern it made, so I’m looking forward to include one.

While I’m on here, not being picky, if you can see that the lamp is on, but a lamp shade covers the bulb, but light is emanating from there, is that okay, or does the bulb itself actually have to be in the picture?

    Thanks!
