So far, if my placement stays where it is or higher, it’ll be my highest place yet in a contest!

Lots of vote-deserving pictures this week!

U-Man – Do you mind if I borrow your mood idea? Your pictures of your daughter made me think of my husband (I know that came out really wrong, but here I go). He has long hair, shoulder length, and he also has that “look” that your daughter was giving. Even if only practice, I convinced him to let me try. He already has a picture sort of like that for his profile on a couple of places, but I think I can make it better now. He probably won’t let me post him, but it should be fun practice anyway.

I don’t want to be stealing other people’s ideas so I thought I’d ask.

Elsinore (or other mods), any chance we can get the entries for myzdoxae to have voting enabled?

Thank you. I was contemplating a couple of other elements to the picture, but I think keeping it simple worked best. Besides, after I thought about it, putting the folded flag on a gravestone might be somewhat disrespectful to the flag, so I avoided it.

    Color it is.

    Color?:

    Or B&W?:

They are 2 separate pictures and I actually took the B&W one in the B&W setting of the camera.

    Thoughts otherwise?

I’m sort of on the fence, but I’m also somewhat liberal when it comes to this stuff. I, personally would be okay if she just had the lit cigarette and it was implied that she was smoking, but I would not really care for it if she actually had it in her mouth and looking like she was puffing on it. Like I said though, that’s me. I’m not a smoking fan, but I can see where you’re going. Not sure how much of a say I get though, given I’ve only been doing this a couple of months.

I decided to give up on it and leave it alone. I put my lens cloth (which I also use on my glasses) plus the camera on Hubby’s desk for him to look at when he got home. I called my Dad and chatted for a bit (he’s good to talk to) and then just for kicks I went to look at it and it’s fine. Images are clear as day again.

I will try the Ziplock bag trick if I think there’s water in it next time. Hubby’s a computer techie and he mentioned on a couple of occasions that if a hard drive is going they’ll put it in a plastic bag, vacuum sealed if possible and then in the freezer. Something about the freezer makes it okay for one more use out of it (it’s a last ditch effort), but not any more than once will it work. I actually put the camera in our freezer because I thought if there was water in there our freezer might help. It’s one of those not condensing ones where there’s no frost/ice on the sides and where if you leave ice in it the ice will evaporate eventually.

I think perhaps in all of this, I may have reacted too quickly or something or let my imagination get the best of me, etc. I tend to go a little overboard sometimes.

In any case, I’ve been futzing around all day long fidgeting with that dratted thing and my line count’s practically nonexistent. I’ll try for a couple of shots with the flag and music that I want to see if they come out okay, but if not I’ll go ahead and use the flag shots I’ve already set aside. It lives for another day (miraculously). Thank you for the advice. I shall try that next time I find spots on my lens.

The idea was to keep moisture out of it (hence not using the breath) and it was just a dab of alcohol to dry quickly. I did it once before and it’s been clean until now, and those spots only showed up last night or today. It was the rubbing alcohol, 91% that hubby uses for electronics cleaning. Have used the cloth too, the one I use for my glasses.

It’s almost like I got condensation inside the outer glass. I remember when I got inner condensation in my car…never did get rid of it.

I might just have to retire picture taking until I can get a new camera if it doesn’t work. Live and learn. If I can’t fix it (and neither can hubby or friend) then we may as well take it apart and see what we can do, won’t be losing anything anyway.

The outer part appears clean, but the underside of that now appears that it has some condensation or something underneath. Blah. I don’t even have the money for a new P&S should this not be able to be fixed.

Well so much for what I thought I was going to do by the grave. Turns out that they take the flags out some time in September so they’re no longer there. They’ll probably go back up around Veteran’s Day or something, but that’ll be too late for this. I’ll come up with something else.

Thinking, thinking, thinking. I know, you can see the gears turning and the smoke coming out, but I could really use some finishing thoughts.

My idea was to use an American flag that was folded up proper (living with a former Army member helps matters). Hubby is also part of the American Legion and some time ago he was tasked with ceremonially burning some flags because they’d reached the end of their service. Some of them were done but not all. So, I still have a faded decent sized, although frayed American flag. Also, in my possession is a copy of “To The Colors” which apparently to be played during the ceremonial burning. Oh yeah, and we have a trumpet (2, actually). My question is this, I have old gravestones next door (some happen to have flags next to them as they were service members), I have the music, and the faded flag (still folded neatly), plus the trumpet. I got this far, I’ve assembled my materials, now I’m just not sure what to do. I’ve thought of arranging it somehow but I’m conflicted as I think that having too many elements would detract from the picture and thus votes. I already have other flag shots to use, but I *really* *REALLY* want to pull this off. Having the music was also about Showing Colors, given the title of the (albeit) short piece plus its relevance to flags (don’t think it extends outside of America, though I could be wrong).

Suggestions? I’ve thought about propping up the flag on a gravestone showing the service and having the music somewhere in there. I’ve also thought about propping the trumpet with the music near or on a flag. I do not, however, in any of this, to be disrespectful to the flag itself, which Hubby will help me figure out. Oh, we also have an American Legion hat with the bugler button it, so that could stand in for something else.

Be honest, have I gone just a little nuts with this? Am I over thinking it? Meh. Work calls, even if it is slow. Thanks for listening/reading.

Another question about the filters and stuff. Does it all have to be applied to the whole image or can it be selected parts? I’m playing with an apple blossom picture and I got the blossom part I wanted selected and moved to another layer and I was playing around with making the rest of the image like water, or plastic wrap (the filter options available). So, is doing that ok, the selected parts, or does it have to be across the whole thing? I think I just got way wordier than I needed to, but oh well. Thanks!

Sorry to interrupt the car talk. To be honest, most of it loses me. The best I can do is that my Dad at one point had a 1970 copper colored Dodge Challenger with black leather interior (I think it was that), i don’t know the engine, but they found the original radio in the trunk. He was restoring it and had to sell it, but fortunately he managed to sell it to someone who wanted to restore it so all his work didn’t go to waste.

Yay! Welcome! I’m new here too. I only started participating in Farktography I think it was late June? I haven’t bee on Fark much longer than that. I’ve had the account, just not posted much. Guess I’m more of a lurker.

On another note, my pictures still see to be up and they do appear to be clicky-popping to the larger size (in a new window, of course), so that’s good news. And, it appears I have votes too! Really cool!

My pictures may or may not disappear into the ether. Photobucket is supposed to renew in a couple of hours, but I don’t get paid until Friday. I will renew then, and so long as my bandwidth doesn’t reach a critical level (which it shouldn’t based on the history that I can see), they should stay posted and be ok. Just thought I’d give a head’s up.
