ParticipantI actually have a question about what would qualify for the contest. I happened across this picture (link below) when I was looking through my recent pictures. I’m thinking I could have submitted it for the Man’s Best Friend contest, but alas it was taken after that (7/29/09 actually). Anyway, it’s more of “a boy and his dog” and I’m wondering if it shows more of my boy than it does of the dog? Yes, we actually handed over the leash to our 3-year-old, and he didn’t let her (Penny, the beagle) stray too far. It was rather cute.

Thanks! I do have one other that I’m using regardless, but I thought I’d ask about this one since the dog’s mostly covered by my son and all you really see is her butt.

ParticipantOk, as I’m playing with this, I have to ask. Is it only filter stuff we can do, or are brush strokes allowed? Specifically, the impressionist brush is fun and a few other tools, but I’m still not sure how it will end up yet, so I’m asking.
Also, should we post a link to the original so people can see what we did/where we started from?
Thanks!

ParticipantWhich explains why when I played with sending this to BW as a change of pace for my desktop (I have a widescreen desktop, 16×10) it came out okay. Thoughts?

ParticipantSo what makes a good B&W photo? I’m likely going to convert one of my archive pictures, even if only to play with for now, but I’ve noticed that not everything will work well. So, suggestions?
Edit: I can do B&W mode in my camera so playing with that won’t be a problem, I’m just used to doing color.

ParticipantMy Dad’s mentioned Craigslist before (I swear his answer for everything lately is Craigslist), and pawn shops. I have been hesitant, but I will make a note to search every now and then and try to scrounge up some money. My husband comments regularly on the lack of quality for the camera so it’s as much to shut him up and something for both of us to play with (though it’ll be mine and if he wants one he can go get one for himself).
Thanks (again) for the sponsorship. I shall definitely make use of it!

ParticipantU-Man, I already have that bug for the new camera parts. I’m going on a 3-year-old P&S Kodak camera, 5 MP with only 4 ISO settings (80, 100, 200, 400), etc, etc etc. Unfortunately for me, I plan to upgrade big and go straight into a DSLR body with a couple of lenses besides the kit one (if a kit lens is included) and I know the body alone for what I looked at was $700-$800 to start (not to mention the cost of the lenses). When that amount of money is what you bring home bi-weekly for a paycheck, that kind of a “bite” will just have to fester.
Whoops, didn’t mean to hijack the thread. Carry on.

ParticipantShall post my 3 at midnight when it becomes available on the main page.
Just sponsored you. Feel free to post, my dear.
Thank you, justkat. You made my night and I smile.
I would have posted as soon as I noticed it, but my Hubby and his friend decided my computer needed a new fan in the front so they were doing that. I hadn’t uploaded my pictures yet to Photobucket. But I have, and they are posted now.
Why is voting not enabled until midnight? I feel really special that I get to see these early. I might have the bug now, and keep the TotalFark.

ParticipantI do hope what I have will qualify tonight. If it’s not within the contest rules they can be deleted. I realized that most of my beginning shots have been from me somewhat looking down. It took me some time to figure out how to look “at” the subject and sometimes I try to look up, but in general, I tend to look down. So while they’re not straight down, there is a downward angle, and most are close ups (2/3), so I do really hope it’s okay. This week hasn’t been great so I’m just going with what I have. Shall post my 3 at midnight when it becomes available on the main page.

ParticipantI think mentioning the contest they would have been for is good. Otherwise, it’s a free for all. This sort of is, but it’s an organized chaos.
I haven’t exactly figured out what I’m going to be putting in for this, although I do have a couple of shiny metal pictures I might put in that were definitely taken after the fact. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I can take pictures of from up above. My 3-year-old building and destroying and building again block and/or lego towers has the wheels turning in my head…

ParticipantI’m seconding thepostess‘s comment about beautiful work. I can’t wait to see what else is coming.

ParticipantI think I will do the dark/cloudy one as before. I’m stuck between 2095 and 2114 (parallel and underneath respectively) which are my favorites of what I have above. I have a third one that I planned on using that is a little different than one might expect, but if it doesn’t get votes it doesn’t get votes. I like it anyway.

ParticipantI know this is probably a lot, but the sun ones I won’t use. A couple look similar. Overall though, I think they’re cool. Talk about great timing to go out and get those!

ParticipantI’m actually training today so there are LOTS of breaks. We’re given ample time to practice and soon we’re supposed to take lunch anyway. SO, while I ventured outside for a couple of steps I happened to notice that there weren’t any clouds in the sky. Guess who hurried back in to grab her camera! WOW what a difference! HOLY COW I got some really nifty shots (and I don’t know how). I actually caught sun beams/rays on a couple! It’s wicked neat!
I had liked the gray of the clouds before, but I like these SO much better. I’ll link here to the sun shots that came out REALLY neat. I’ll go crop and upload real quick. Be back soon.

ParticipantI thought that about the clouds too. I do have others that I took yesterday too that are different. Unfortunately, the sky hasn’t been cooperative so there’s not much I can do about the clouds. I may just have to bow out if I can’t find anything that works.
