I never know how I’m going to do. That’s part of the fun (and frustration 😉 )

nor do i really but if recent trends hold ….

part of the fun/frustration thing is thinking entry one (or two or three) will do better than entry two (or one or three) and having the exact opposite happen. i’ve pretty much given up on trying to outguess the voters and just do what we are supposed to do. post something we like and hope for the rare “good jorb” which means so much more anyway.

well once again mine are probably going to tank with the voters but they have special meaning to me. and i had to use archives too since i couldn’t find the time for new shots.

i am going to take the theme literally and have multiple birds in each entry.

if you want, linking to a bigger version of your photos might be in order. fark’s posting limits could make some images unusable. for example scaling up 25% of a 60kb image could make that part so pixelated that it wouldn’t look good.

that presupposes the PS part will be limited to just using photos from this contest. this isn’t set in stone at this time. i do hope that is what happens since the “mashup” challenge ought to be fun for the photoshoppers.

i would also like to thank new member laz-long for helping get this started. his [strike]pot stirring[/strike] contributions at fark helped push us off center and got the ball rolling again.

    6. On Wednesday evening at 8pm EST/EDT (US), the Farktography thread will be posted to TotalFark. Non-subscribed users will need to wait until the thread is posted. Click on the comments link of the Farktography thread to post your pictures.

ok, now i see the problem. that part should probably read: …until the thread is posted to the main page.

didn’t read what you did but let’s rephrase that.

every wednesday evening at 8:00 PM eastern time someone (this is pre determined here) will submit the the farktography contest for that week as a link submission. that link submission shows up on total fark along with all the other submitted stuff. the submitter then posts the boobies post that contains the theme, rules, etc.

as soon as that is done all of us that have total fark accounts begin to post our entries.

at some point a fark admin greenlights the contest and assigns the “go live” date and time. by prior arrangement with fark this is always the same day and at 12:01 AM eastern.

once live everyone else can post their entries.

Hmm too bad I can’t re-use my best Eagle shot.. I will have to go with another one

i feel that way about (some of) my pelican shot(s).

but none are as good as your eagle.

if that shop is like computer stores there are good, ok and virtual know nothings. i often wonder how the latter stay in business.

guess i ought to play with my focus points more. both lenses seem to hunt some or use a point i didn’t like/want so i just use the center one now. i’ll focus, hold the shutter at half and shift composition to move the focus point as needed for the finished shot.

i bought my konica/minolta maxxum 7D just as they were getting out of the camera business and got (for the time) a good deal on it. the kit lens is a konica/minolta 18-70 AF DT macro 3.5-5.6 which is actually a carry over from their autofocus film cameras. so there’s the whole crop factor thing plus it isn’t particularly fast. ok, compared to what you guys are talking about it’s slow. but overall i’m happy with the pictures and the overall quality of the lens.

i also bought a tamrom AF 75-300 4-5.6 LD TELE-MACRO for roughly $175. budget was a big factor here. it too is a film lens so has the crop factor thing. and as you can tell it needs lots of light. have had mixed results with it. the auto focus doesn’t produce consistent results in sharpness which may be just softness at large apertures or may be a focus problem with the camera. test result have been mixed. i can get good sharp shots with manual focus but again consistency is lacking.

and both are no where near real macro. a set of kenko extension rings solves that if one is willing to have really shallow DOF.

so it’s use this camera with it’s limitations, go back to the minolta 7i with it’s limitations (fixed lens DSLR) or go back to film with it’s limitations.

from sigma’ site Optimized for digital SLR cameras so it seems the previous owner can’t use the internets*. but that worked out well for you since that site also has a MSRP of $750 USD.

    *except for ebay.

    nice shots so far.

and speaking of not knowing things, it wasn’t until i read the specs for that lens that i found out lenses now come with one F stop though out their zoom range.

well i have three compliments of my archives. i think #s one and two met the criteria for the contest. #1 has the shadow as (pulls percentage from ass) 50% of the image area but it’s a cat’s shadow and i cropped it to minimize the cat. in #2 the shadow in in the center of the image but only takes up roughly 25% of the total image area. so Elsinore if they are deemed as not matching and deleted i’m cool with that.

#3 shouldn’t be a problem as the subject is the shadow.
