Participanti did some photoshop dodging on a friend’s photo over the weekend to try and fix some harsh shadows. it’s too much trouble for a contest. also my results were barely passable.
when i shot for a contest i take a lot of exposures. if i can’t find a good one from the many then it wasn’t meant to be anyway.
and for those that feel out of the loop …. yeah, me too. this is the first i’m hearing of the rule change.
Curious
Participantmy condolences as well.

ParticipantI think it does look a little bit better, but it offends my desire for “natural” images.
it does look better and while i agree with the desire for natural images ……. well what are they? i’ve done both film processing and printing and post processing in digital and as you well know there is no real natural image. not if one defines natural as what the eye sees.
this manipulated shot looks most like a train set instead of a train station. and naturally that’s what you wanted, right? 🙂

Participanti thought my moat might do well and am pleased to see that it is. it’s been a long, long time since i’ve even been in the top ten.
as far as voting goes we never know from one week to the next. part of the excitement 🙂 i try to wait a day or so before voting so most everybody that will post has. i then vote for stunning, best matches the theme and the occasional “oh why not vote for it” entry.

Participantwell, you can select an area of the scene, feather it out, and then just apply gaussian to that area. or look for diffuse glow, if that’s available.
thanks but given what i have to do this week i may pass rather than take the time to PS my shots.
i have a crown graphic 4×5 but no means to process the resulting negs (or positives as the case may be) which i’d dearly like to use again. and i’m also not sure that it would produce the effects this contest aims at.

Participantyou can do them online here: http://tiltshiftmaker.com/
also, lens blur should be located under filters in PS7
saw the online thing, thanks.
filter/blur>blur, blur more, gaussian, motion, radial, smart.
nope, no lens blur. lens flare yes. PS7 seems to lack a lot but given my limited needs and the cost to me i’m not complaining.
Curious
Participantall the google hits for software use CS2 or latter. looked at my copy of PS7 but didn’t find a “lens blur” option. that could be due to not knowing all the features.
and my gimping skills are none too good either. may have to pass.

Participantwell i went hunting in the archives again since a photo trip didn’t work out. and between the three shots i have one stone wall, one fence and a moat. the stone wall is from 2004, the fence just recently and the moat is a scan from ????
none were “oh well i need a third one” so i’m happy with all of them.

ParticipantThanks everyone!!
*High fives myself*
My lil hummie beat sooshs eagle?
I feel so validated! *sniff*
well i never want to be “that guy” and say i told you so but i did when i first saw them. congrats
and while my best voter getter finished well out of the running i’m happy with the votes it got. heck, even the ibis did ok for a crappy shot.

Participantthanks schnee for the info. i’m in the middle of the list with 273. not too shabby for just under 4 years. the site is hosted at lunar pages and overall i’ve been happy with them. like all the paid sites the bandwidth and storage have gone up while the cost has gone down.
one caveat re personal sites. i just found out there might be a trojan on my site and what i’m getting told is: 1) the hosting company monitors and protects their servers rigorously 2) if your site is hacked it’s your fault and up to you to fix it. so now i need to learn a whole lot more about what happens under the hood and then go through the site and find/fix whatever might be broken. yeah this will end well.
i also have a flickr pro account but that is for ease of sharing stuff over a much wider group of folks.

Participantlaz-long and Choc-Ful-A and probably Elsinore keep in mind that the PS timing part will also be controlled by Drew or some other fark admin. from past experience i can tell you that this will require an email or two.
Drew is very helpful but often busy and may need to get up to speed here. i suggest we (you guys pick who) contact him now with the basic idea and explain you will need him to set the greenlight based on what we decide.

Participantlast time this came up i was all for it.
now i’m stone broke and New Orleans is the only doable suggestion so far. and with what’s forecast for the economic future that probably won’t be changing. damn.
Curious
ParticipantI bet you didn’t even try to mug him.
too many witnesses 🙂
also i’d be suspect one anyway since no one else there has any real interest in photography.
thanks for the feedback NoBigDeal and 3Horn

Participantwaited until this morning to vote and glad i did. would have missed some good late entries otherwise.
i don’t think i’ve voted for some many ever.
Curious
Participantah so, thanks.
