Participantthis is nothing more than fear mongering bullshit. it all ties into the “terrorists” taking pictures for their nefarious plans. or that is the official rational for it.
and it would be sad if it weren’t such an affront to those of us who live our life’s within the bounds of the law but end up being treated like criminals by power tripping assholes.
and you can bet that if you actually forked over the money for a permit your name would end up on a homeland security list of people who were “interested” in that particular place. and you might just end up with the thousands of folks on the no fly list cuz – well you did take a picture of a federal building once.
sorry i know farktography isn’t the place for rants but this one just really chaps my ass. if any of my fellow mods wants to zap the post i’ll understand.

ParticipantRcMacStudent it was the midwest site i’m not familiar with. i used to use tiger direct until finding newegg and since then it’s been newegg all the way. or them for online orders. in the last six years i’ve built 4 computers from scratch and rearranged several others plus major upgrades for a few more.
i was in wal-mart last saturday and they had a lite-on 52x CDRW marked down to $10. it ended up in my cart although i have no use for it at this time.
my friends wouldn’t be surprised.

ParticipantWill probably have to go back and review it some more and digest the info further. i do that again and again.
and then again after i haven’t tried something in 6 months and have forgotten what the “trick” was 🙂
glad i could help.

Participanti’m going to revert to film and my bellows and focusing rail. it’s no guarantee but will be interesting to see what i can do.

Participantmy pleasure QuickSilver. one of the better things about both here and the PSAEF is the community and it’s willingness to help each other. it was my turn since i’ve been the recipient more than once.

Participanti found a very unusual bug (dead on my kitchen counter top – don’t ask) but i can’t get my super fancy camera to take a good photo of it. my not as fancy did ok but ok won’t win that week. heck it probably won’t even place.

Participantthanks Elsinore but i think the composition has more to do with it that than the face.
and BTW that VP quote was supposed to be “you’re” 🙂 preview only helps if you really reread what you wrote.

ParticipantJakevol2 I dont think of my self as photogenic
so we’re out on the water shooting for the catalog and have used the models we brought in every conceivable set up. and i tell our VP for advertising that i’ll model if he wants. a pause and he tells me:
“thanks but your not photogenic.”
but that doesn’t stop him from using me later as the scuba driver handing stuff into the boat. well it was from behind and just my head, shoulders and arm.
so yeah, i know what you mean.

Participanti’ve used kingston RAM on and off for years but not their CF. i tend to read and believe the reviews on newegg. they’ve worked out well over time. you get the folks pimping but they are offset by the haters. frankly i won’t have the kodak had it not been on sale. and i knew it would have some drawback as cheap as it was.
Curious
Participantwe saw enough of you with the wedding pictures.
ok those weren’t self inflicted. my bad. 🙂

Participantwhile i agree with you in general monkeybort about getting what you pay for the cards i linked are kingston, not no name. here’s a page of them on http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010070068+50001183+1053107923&name=Compact+Flash+(CF) newegg and has reviews for most of them. and the ratings are mostly good. didn’t read the reviews. seems the 8GB are new and not rated/reviewed.
having looked at the midwest site again they are a bit cheaper than newegg even w/o the $50 rebate.
and yes i know you were not being snarky. i just wanted to make sure folks at least looked at the link before deciding. and no i have no vested interest in the site having just learned of it today. so when they don’t ship or sell your info don’t come looking for me 🙂
and in the interests of full disclosure i have simple tech, lexar, toshiba and a lot of kodak. in the kodak a 32MBG (old), 5 512MB and one 1GB. the 512s and the 1GB were bought from wal-mart when they discontinued them. by the time the sale was over the 512 were $7.50 each. and yes i kept going back every time they dropped the price and getting refunds. turns out they weren’t supposed to be doing that. oh well. the kodak work fine but are slow speed which only matters when i download them to the computer. because my camera cache is so big they will keep up with continuous frame advance.

Participantis this where i tell a long (and boring) story of a photographer who didn’t want to be bothered walking back to his car for another roll of film so he stopped shooting went home.
and then spent 45 minutes every time he printed a certain frame because the neg was bad and needed extensive dodging and burning. and each print was selling for a hundred bucks framed. but was so much trouble that he didn’t really want to bother.
ok, i won’t tell it. but it goes along with my “film is cheap” lesson and comes from the same guy. so yeah, if it’s anything that is basically a one time event take the extra time or effort. it may not pay off every time but when it does it really does.
