ParticipantThat’s OK, because Classic Miller was awesome! And while I understand the convenience and quick cook of the gas grill, I feel the charred on one side, raw on the other ash laden, fuel tasting goodness of the tradition charcoal grill will always be a superior grilling experience.
Good grief, I am channeling Sheldon Cooper! I’ve got to stop marathon-ing Big Bang Theory!

Participantbtw…notice he’s using NIKON 😉
Well of course, the first rule of extreme location photography is not to use equipment you would miss if it breaks! 😈

ParticipantWoot! Made Flickr Blog:

ParticipantWe’re projected to get some clouds on Sunday or Monday. There may even be some rain if the track shifts too far west.
*smirk*
Yeah…well…enjoy your snow this Winter!

ParticipantFor those that are looking for a dedicated macro lens but are choking at the cost (I know I was!) Tamron’s 90mm Macro is a nice little lens for a much nicer price

I picked mine up on the Fleabay for around three hundred. The AF is slow and clunky, but you don’t need AF for macro anyway. It also makes a nice portrait lens with good bokeh (It’s blurry muthafarka!). The run new around 500 and half that used. Canon, Nikon and (god forbid) Pentax mounts.

ParticipantRe early voting: As I understand it the voting is enabled for simplicity sake particularly as some threads go to Total Fark Discussion without being Greened. I believe Mike set it up for the votes to reset when the thread goes live. So, if you voted before the thread goes live at midnight you will need to vote again when it hits the main page.
Also: Some Bee’s on my Flickr page

I liked the bubbles on the Green Army Man, but decided it lacked the color to give it oomph.

ParticipantShooting in High Key is more about lights than anything else. This site has a basic guide to setting up a HK light set:
http://photo.tutsplus.com/tutorials/lighting/beginners-guide-to-shooting-high-key/
You can make the effect with standard lighting and tweaking the exposure but you tend to lose a lot of detail. The style makes for some lovely portrait work but is time and money intensive.

ParticipantI’m sorry you feel that way. I chose ‘barren’ in relation to ‘non-reproductive’, as in ‘life forms and things that reproduce’. I didn’t mean it as in ‘without consequence of mankinds’ doing’. As such, anything man-made is fair game–so long as it’s not alive (we haven’t gotten that far, have we? After the mammoth & Iceman blunder… 😆 ). I hope you’ll reconsider and join in. There will surely, as always, be creative interpretations and yours among them would be welcomed.
//kinda thought everyone was on board and excited. A little sad that everyone’s experiencing inspirational difficulties–including myself. I managed to find my mojo–hope everyone else does, as I hoped it would be a neat theme for macrophotography. 🙁
I really like the theme! I just found my ideas very hard to translate into workable shots. I don’t have a lot of things around the house that make for interesting shots and anything I might find lying about outside of the house is usually to disgusting to pick up! 😀
What I finally did shoot came out really well plus I learned a ton about lighting macro shots and using my off camera gear, so this has been a huge boon!

ParticipantTell the truth, I kind of forgot about it! Hugin has perspective and lens distortion built into the algorithm and ICE doesn’t! Off to photoshop!
ennuipoet
ParticipantWell, in the 11th hour I finally have some shots I like. Basically I started throwing stuff in front of the camera hoping that desperation would step in where inspiration failed. It kinda did.

ParticipantWe’ve had some amazing storms the past few nights, people are taking incredible lightning photos. I, however, have not shot a single one. As a basement dweller I lack a view to the sky and the idea of standing in the open with an umbrella and tripod while huge bolts of electricity blast into the fundament (that is a double entendre for all the English majors out there) is a bit more than I am willing to risk for my art!

Participant+1!

Participant/Trying to make this as complicated as possible.
//It’s working.HAH! Then I say we just post: “Bokeh: It’s Blurry Muthafarka!” 😛
I have read this several times, and I can’t read it in anything but Samuel L. Jackson’s voice.
It wasn’t intended to Samuel L Jackson, but it is now!

ParticipantWe’ve had a couple of those over the years, but thankfully they’re not the norm. I’m hoping my response will nip that kind of thing in the bud. Someone’s also been voting down our links consistently every week for at least the past 6 weeks. Not sure what’s up with that.
I think what tweaked me was the three shots submitted did not have “creative” bokeh. There were no compositional elements in the background to lead the viewer into or out of the shots. There were no angles, shapes or forms in the background to enhance the visual aspects of the image. There were some nice vectors in the third image which matched the angles of the model’s pose. Those vectors, however, fail to lead the viewer into any other visual elements of interest and essentially strand you in the upper left corner of the image with no where to go.
You see, I can read a book on artistic composition and be a snarky ass too! 😛
