Participant:/ I like uploading the large sizes because I don’t want to just use Flickr for hosting, I like the community there too. And because I don’t take all my pictures with farktography in mind, so I don’t know offhand which need to be 640 wide
*le sigh* can’t win

ParticipantYeah I had problems with my 640 versions on all, had to go resize them multiple times in Lightroom before fark accepted them, then had the 2nd image reject even though I tested it in scratchpad, and I ended up just using the 500 pixel version and saying fuck it.

ParticipantMy 2nd entry was deemed too large even though I also tested in the scratchpad. I haven’t been having the other problems people have stated they’ve had with the Flickr conversion but if they are doubling the filesizes, then the new 640 option isn’t going to be as exciting as I’d hoped.

ParticipantIt’s a Sierra Mist lens, get it right 😉

ParticipantGot it. I’m about to leave on vacation so I will ship it when I get back if I don’t get to the PO tomorrow

ParticipantIf you were facebook friends with us this wouldn’t be an issue

ParticipantI still have the Holga, so if Leica doesn’t mind since I actually can’t afford to ship it to Japan right now, if you get me your information I can ship it to you.

ParticipantI’m with linguine on whether or not I click but for this contest I don’t mind skipping the click to bigger

ParticipantJust to give everyone a last opportunity to participate, if you have a top 10, 15 or 25 list of your favorite themes, give us a post here and tell us what they are.

Participantone thing that pops up is that most of the voting takes place in the first hours of the competition, while it’s still in TFland.
Edited because Elsinore said everything I was saying.
I know the feeling though if you see there’s already a photo way in the lead, you might feel like there’s no point in posting, but methodology in voting has been discussed a lot and I know a lot of the regulars wait until Saturday to vote so they can see those late breaking images.
None of this going to stop me from participating. I’d like to win, but I know I have a long way to go to be as good some of you guys and girls. I’m here because the theme gives me boundaries and a goal to shoot for. I really just want to get better at photography in general.
That’s why I think all of us do this too. What would be good is if we could draw more people into feeling part of the community, because it’s a great community.

Participant* Casual participants with P&S’s can still be competitive. Much to my chagrin, 3 of my top 4 placing pix (including this week’s) were taken with a P&S.
Absolutely. I have two wins – 1 from a P&S and 1 from my DSLR.

ParticipantI don’t think we have to worry about the death of Farktography because I know as long as Fark is still around and I can wield a camera, I’ll probably be playing.
I know it can be hard to get friends/family to participate but keep telling people about it. I’ve told lots of people at work about it, none of them have started playing yet but I keep bugging them and really, picking up 1 and 2 more people is actually huge. And ennuipoet is right that things go in waves. clouddancer and I started about the same time, then we didn’t have any notable new voices until recently when ravnostic, zincprincess and BecauseISaidSo all started about the same time.I am committed to finishing the book up too, even if the contract thing with Drew falls through and we make it through blurb.com.

ParticipantCasual farktographers are people who only play if they have a photo already taken that fits the theme and I think this year we’ve had a lot of themes that required more preparation. The last two themes with around 100 unique participants were Skylines and Sunrise, Sunset – both subjects it’s likely that everyone has taken a picture of, that they like, at some point in their life. We have quite a few themes coming up, in the hopper or reached critical mass on the forum with very broad subject matter – trees, vote-whoring, volcanos/mountains/waterfalls, classic teh funnayer, waterscapes, classic green, fish – to test and see whether there’s higher participation in a more general contest.
But since I’ve been spending a lot of time in the FSM for the farktography book, it did occur to me that it could be fun to do a “Year of Classics” next year. Go back to the beginning and do our favorite 50 themes over again. Also, if we can get the book going, the publicity it will generate is almost sure to increase participation since if it turns out well, we could potentially make another one.
