The sides of the stone aren’t polished. Basically think of a piece of sandstone that’s been cleaved (split open) and then cut to about 4″x6″.

Similar to this one, though I’m not sure I’ll end up using this particular shot.

I’d agree – the river seems to be more the subject in those pics NoBigDeal. They are pretty sweet shots though!

On that note I wanna hedge one of my bets – I’ve got a fish fossil that’s in/on a piece of sandstone. The sandstone had to be cleaved to expose the fossil of course (I’m assuming the geode ruling applies here) and the surface is unaltered but the sides of the stone – which are not in the shots I took – were finished I think. Is that still keeping in the spirit? Personally, I think so, and the wife agrees, but I wanted to throw it out here to be safe.

I’d be interested to hear if other people found the idea of a multi-picture theme as interesting as I did. If so, maybe we can think of another theme that encourages the same sort of story telling? I’d like another chance to shoot some photo sequences to convey some complex message again.

I liked the idea, and would definitely be up for something along the same vein. The challenge of grouping three shots together was really interesting.

FWIW we’ve had an heat wave this week. started raining yesterday, but have been having highs in the upper 60’s… time to get creative

Ha! When I started explaining the contests to the Mrs. and going on about how much I’d love to get a win or even a top 10 she asked “What do you win?” And she was so confused when I replied, “Errr… nothing?” Why would you spend time, money, effort etc. on a contest with “no prize.”
…

A lot of us are probably in the same little boat I’d say.

Could be worse, the Mrs. and I both do this… Fortunately we haven’t hit the situation (yet) where both of us want to use effectively the same shots… (it can happen when you’re out in the field) Came close this week though. But I managed to get out of it without being relegated to the sofa.

If it’s any consolation, I thought I was done yesterday, but me, just kat, and lady_nocturne went out with the cameras again today.

So, do I go with the really nice footbridge pics, or the rail bridge that lets me use this one…
