I saw that thing the other week. Looks pretty cool.

I’m thinking about retooling it so it can be a little more versatile – shouldn’t be difficult to make it motion sensitive (motion detectors use IR) and possibly sound sensitive.

Not much lightning around here, but we there is a fair amount of wildlife…

You’d be surprised bucky. I was once mistaken for a woman from behind.

Of course, it probably didn’t help that I was wearing a dress at the time. And had really, really long hair.

/the look on the guys face when he saw my beard…priceless.

Yeah, and I might be wearing a kilt when I take those pictures.

One of these days I’m going to acquire an Utilikilt.

SilverStag‘s binary entry is just genius, if slightly subtle.

Definitely. I recognized it for binary, but was too lazy to translate :/

Since you’re going to the hardware store anyway, you could get a couple of gallons of paint stripper and ‘fix’ the water tower… It’s a good shot…

after feeling pretty dern uninspired by this contest (which has more to do with external life than the topic) i finally got the bug and got a couple of pix today. if something throws itself at me tomorrow, then fine. if not, two pix it is.

I can virtually guarantee you have a stapler with shiny metal parts.

I’m not so sure. I couldn’t find it on Sunday…

Smoke bomb. It was odd. I had a pack of really crappy smoke bombs. They lasted all of 3 or 4 seconds each. Most of them had wispy smoke. This one had nice smoke – like a cumulus cloud.

My daughter was kinda pissed that her dragon smelled like fireworks.

    ?peppermints?

LOL! You’ve got to get her started with a camera. My son got the biggest kick when I told him what I was going to do with his toys.

Quite honestly price-wise you’re going to get a better deal online. I’d stick with a reputable place like B&H Photo or Adorama Camera though, especially if you’re considering ‘gently used’ glass. I’ve also gotten some good deals through Amazon (which is where I found Adorama in the first place). Make sure you read all the reviews, and I wouldn’t be afraid to ask specifics here since someone on the forums has probably used what ever lens(es) you’re looking at for either system.

For camera bags, personally I ended up with a backpack designed for the purpose. It’s got foam thingys like an over the shoulder bag, plus lots more space (and pockets). Tripod straps to the bottom, and away I go. Another nice thing about a backpack is that I don’t think it tends to get in the way quite so much when you’re walking around and shooting.

Claff the idea is for the metal itself to be reflective, if not shiny. So painted, not so much, but if you’ve got something chrome, or polished aluminum…

    Or,

Definitely. I’m going to ask if I can have a larger version of the one with Kat and the faerie babby for a desktop background.

But most of them are really cool.

I just threw together a crappy little table top studio to shoot a very expensive dragon statue. I used some dog pee pads that I just bought (as yet unused, I swear) as my backdrop. It looked a lot better with those as the background than it did with the toaster, blender and knife block.

Our light box is made out of sprinkler tubing and fluorescent light panel covers. It works pretty darn well, actually. For backdrops we buy remnants from the local fabric store.

You know what’s funny? I haven’t seen a single glass dragon yet.
