ugh. glad you’re on the mend man. Hopefully you won’t have any long-lasting effects?

yeah, I’m not sure what I’m going to do for this one. My lotto numbers haven’t hit yet so that 300mm ‘L’ hasn’t shown up at my doorstep yet

I’ve managed to not so far, but some of my ideas it’s going to be difficult to not have at least part of the subject in the shot.

Part of me would love to see what would be done with them, but at the same time I would have liked to have the option to opt out ahead of time before posting.

That’s exactly my feeling, I think.

I really, really like the idea of the crossover threads, and kinda wish they were done more often. there are just a very few things I’d rather that weren’t done with, and I’d like to know ahead of time so I can choose things appropriately.

I don’t see why you should wait, I’d farkback immediately.
What I meant earlier was that people who want to protect their images should be actively taking steps to do so.

Google farktography and you’ll see a bunch of sites rehosting contests. Most of them a heck of a lot less ethical than Fark (probably all, I mean, they’re stealing fark content).

    But, being thieves, they hotlink.
I don’t suppose any technically inclined folks have a better solution than pulling or renaming or whatever your images after the contest is over?

The submitter fixed it, which is the way I’d rather go, because especially in this case I’d rather he understand why, and that it’s really not personal. After all, we’ve had cross-collaboration before and I don’t think the average joe understands that this isn’t that case.

interestingly enough, I did google, and though I didn’t dig too far in I found a lot of sites with links to contests, and links run by Farktographers. Direct hotlinking not so much, but given millera9‘s thing today I know I’ll be paying a lot more attention.

I don’t pull my images after the contest because I watermark them, and I figured that that would be enough. We’ll see how that goes moving forward though.

soosh those are my thoughts exactly. in fact, I’ve given permission after the fact when I’ve found my stuff being used. And I would have been *totally* cool with this being a crossover contest – but I would have chosen different pictures.

HansensDisease has an email address in his profile that you could try if he doesn’t notice your post in the contest. My guess is that most of the photoshoppers had no clue that no one over here had approved this already and they thought that we had approved this already like when this type of crossover contest before.

he saw my post a minute or so ago. I’d emailed him already also, but ultrafark is being screwy, around here at least.

Do photoshop contests ordinarily get permission before using images?

I could see how people would be upset by it, but unless they take their images down 2 days after a contest I don’t see any way to prevent it from happening on any number of other sites.

of course the answer to this is no. and not only no but hell no. i’ll pull a number from my ass and say that 99.8% of the photoshop “O’s” and resulting contest entries are from StumbleOn and GIS and similar sources. and i’ll bet that in almost all cases there is no prior permission. there have been a couple of complaints that i know of but they were resolved amiably.

today i came across a thread here about miller9 being in a chain email. it happens.

all that said it would be too bad if someone were to take offense.

so Elsinore if you want to contact Drew and chat with him it would probably be best if done soon. personally i hope the contest stays and no one gets upset. it is Fark after all.

and again just FYI, BTW and OMGBBQ one of the current entries used Zeke’s cat with food trail 🙂

Normally I’d be flattered but if that picture doesn’t come down soon I *will* Farkback and ask that the entire thread be yanked if need be. It’s upsetting me, it’s *really* upsetting the wife, and I certainly would not have posted it had I known that would be one of the parameters of the contest.

I mean, you can tell where it came from, my goddamn copyright is still in the corner.

I’m fine with it so long as my pic of Kat isn’t used.

Would have been nice to know in advance though.

    Good stuff so far though.

That’s just very sad. Every city always has a few people who can’t find their way to harm reduction shelters, that’s if those shelters even exist. Not every city has one. Sacramento’s resources have been stretched to the limit and threatened cutbacks mean that more people will be homeless and vulnerable.

That’s sad I know, but those folks have also lived in that spot for years. It’s been there at least as long as I’ve lived here.

This lady wasn’t homeless though, I think. Just crazy. What’s deplorable is that even if she *wanted* to get help, she wouldn’t be able to for that.

I’ve been here for a little over 11 hours today. Got this and the occasional refresh on the voting page to distract me. wooo 😉

The real bummer is that Kat bought me some new bulbs for my studio, and I’ll be too tired to use them when I get home.

I can sort photos on my website by date added, so just did that and picked ones I liked best.

Oh yeah, well I hacked my own database to find images added in the last year (login on is for wussies), then i wrote an algorithm to sample each pixel and compare it to the formula I derived from my results so far. Once I had a score for each image, I sent the results off to KPMG to be audited to make sure there were no mistakes.

    Unfortunately I haven’t heard back yet … 😛

/Just used FSM portfolio as I was used to the old just post already posted images unless you are a n00b rule.

I’d meant to use the mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnal’s porch, but I haven’t been able to get over there recently.

I would have done that, but I’m in the process of building up the gallery still, so I actually had to get off my butt and do that for the last year or so before today :/

And I really wanted to use some stuff I hadn’t posted before for some arbitrary reason.
