ParticipantThat’s pretty awesome, man. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for next week!

ParticipantMan, if anybody comes in from out of state I’ll see if I can get you a tour of any of the big telescope facilities or the mirror lab. I kinda feel like the 61″ isn’t impressive enough to warrant a big road trip. Though, I’ve been there almost 80 times now, so maybe my opinion is skewed.

ParticipantThat’s a great pano-really cool location. What software do you use for stitching panoramas? I’ve never found anything that works well consistently.

ParticipantPenciling accomplished, Rav.
Lovesandwich, you ain’t seen nothing until you’ve seen Subaru. 322″ of sheer telescopular goodness. It’s my favorite telescope in the world.

ParticipantOkay, is it wrong that I read that as sprite zero at first glance? For a brief moment I thought U-Man was giving us a weird and inexplicable window into his hydration habits.

ParticipantAlways good to hear that one of our number is successful. Well done!

ParticipantJust got my telescope schedule for the next trimester. Here’s a summary:
Friday, May 27
Friday, June 17
Monday, June 20
Wednesday, June 22
Friday, June 24
Thursday, July 14Also, nearly the entire month of July is open on the schedule, so I’m thinking of requesting a night for eyepiece observing. If anybody here is interested in using a 61″ telescope for eyepiece observing, please let me know what (if any) nights in July could work for you. The restrictions are July 1-4 (already taken), my night on July 14, and it can’t be after the 28th (as I’ll be moving to Hawaii after that). I’m actually house sitting now, so I have a guest room for somebody to stay in, as well as several couches.

ParticipantHmmmm. Let me talk to my professor. He’s usually pretty cool about this kind of stuff. I figure my typical hiking kit will work (this includes a 3 liter camelbak). I’ll let you know by next Tuesday.

ParticipantI may be interested, if I can get time off from class that day. The good thing about that is that I’m the only student in my one class that day, so it should be possible. I’d probably have to drive up from Tucson on Monday night, though, unless it’s close enough that I could make it in a couple of hours from Tucson.

ParticipantKlingon actually has its own alphabet-I have two different fonts on my computer.

ParticipantI’ve always wanted to get into the corkin system. Maybe I’ll be able to start when I get a new camera this summer.
Plamadude30k
ParticipantI agree, I like the second one more.

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/qTqMYKgd0A46vCWoaTyPqg?feat=directlinkI’m still a little nervous on my decision for the lightning picture. I guess I’ll just have to find another contest to use this b-side in.

ParticipantHey everyone, long time no see (virtually speaking). I’ve been on the road for 4 out of the past 5 weeks (3 on business, 1 on spring break vacation) and so have had very little time for the contests. The good news from a photography standpoint is that I’ve now got lots of new material for any future snow/mountain/winter-themed contests (went skiing on vacation), one of which will appear tonight. 😉
It’s good to be back home for a while (hopefully). Looking forward to tonight’s contest…
P.S. Congrats on your recent first 1st, plamadude30k!
Thanks, most appreciated. Also, travel is always awesome-that’s where most of my best photography comes from.
Also also, I’m staying away from star-related images this time-I feel like I should probably mix it up a bit after the stars contest (though I do have plenty of pictures of stars with exposure times much longer than 2 seconds). Both of my ideas for new pictures fell flat this week, so this’ll be an archive dive for me. Thankfully, I have a TON of good options.
Speaking of good options…
I’ve got these two pictures I’m trying to decide between:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/qTqMYKgd0A46vCWoaTyPqg?feat=directlink
and
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/FlZCy2pgLQj87166P_bS5g?feat=directlinkI’m leaning towards the second one, but I’m just not sure-which do you guys like better?
Plamadude30k
ParticipantThanks folks 🙂
And yes, 3 shots composited in qtpfsgui. There’s just no way to get the gorge exposed without blowing out the sky unless you break out the bag of HDR tricks.
And this is where I break out the dremel and start working on an 8-stop GND filter….. 😀
I would pay money for that. I’ve tried stacking GND filters before, but that’s just a nightmare to get them to line up correctly.
