ParticipantI’ve always photographed the stuff I want to remember from a trip, it may have been buildings, people, animals, etc. I’ve gone back and scanned some photos from trips I took before I had a digital camera. One or two might show up in the contest.
On as side note my wife (Yzziefrog) sponsored me for a month of TF, no more waiting until breakfast to post for me. It also means my work productivity will drop to zero.

ParticipantHere is another b-side, it was taken at the same time as the jumping salmon in the contest. I wasn’t sure if I was going to use ti or not until this morning.

Through this contest I learned a lot of interesting things: There are salmon in the Humber River in Toronto, how to shoot in low light levels, the importance of a monopod, and how to evaluate a situation for taking pictures (instead of just snapping away when you get there).

ParticipantOkay, U-Man, The frog-gulp was pretty cool, but I’m going to have to admit that I was expecting to see the stereotypical Field and Stream cover-worthy Bigmouth-breaking-the-surface-to-snag-a-spinner shot.
Heh. If my memory is correct, those F&S covers showing the action shots of fish are paintings. My brain can’t even get around how difficult that would be to capture photographically.

🙂
I tried for that kind of shot, it takes a lot of patience to shoot salmon swimming upstream. I spent 4 hours over 2 very chilly mornings waiting for that kind of shot. I got maybe 15 pics, and only 1-2 are good (in focus, recognizable as a fish, etc). Since I’m not a TFer you’ll have to wait to see it.

The best part is that it works!

ParticipantThank you all for the good advice. I was able to get a lot of good shots. My only problem was is that I ran out of space on my card and I forgot to bring the second one. Oh well 340 shots was enough.

ParticipantPope_Larry_II – Carey Price? So you’re a habs fan, but you live in TO? You’re happy no matter who wins tonight’s game, aren’t you? … looks like Leafs, 3-2 with 2min in the 3rd.
Yep Habs fan. I never like losing to the Leafs.

ParticipantI have a lot shots for this one, but most aren’t that good. The majority of them were taken for work, I work in the consulting side of construction, so you can guess what most of my pics are. Anyway, here are a few B-sides that didn’t make the cut.

ParticipantI got really lucky this weekend, in terms of taking photos. I went on a walk down to the river and found a bunch of guys fishing, just below the waterfalls. There were a lot of salmon making the trek upstream. I had to go back a second day as all the shots from the first day were not very good (blurry, wrong lens, etc). I more or less captured 3 upcoming farktography themes in one shot (almost litterally).

ParticipantOh, I’m going for vote whoring. I’ve got pics of my niece’s first birthday and the ensuing cake “eating”. I have to narrow it down to one, I’ll be relying on my wife to help with selecting which pic to submit. The rest are just what I could pull off with short notice, as last week’s scheduled baking did not happen.

ParticipantThat sounds like a funny premise for a show, is it good?
I’ve only seen bits of it, but what I have seen is pretty entertaining. It’s not Olympic caliber figure skating, but it’s fun to watch the likes of Georges Laraque and Tie Domi attempt figure skating. Even the practices are funny as you see these little women bullying NHL players around.
If you’re in Canada you can stream it from CBC.ca.

ParticipantDude, it’s spelled Georges Laraque, you probably don’t want to offend one of the most feared enforcers to ever lace em up. Or Habs fans.
I should know that, I am a Habs fan….d’oh.
There were a lot of pic that did not make it, these are some of the better ones.
I didn’t actually think about the settings when I was shooting these, which is also something I learned. See, everything in life is a learning experience.

ParticipantI say cut Gumby in favor of the lasers. I’m almost always wrong in my own picks so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. Or do the opposite. That might work.
I’m having a similar problem. I can’t decide which of these six I like best (or least).

I’d go with the money shot 😆

I actually shot a lot of pics of this truck, but this one was judged the best by my wife. I still didn’t use it. I would have liked it to not have the logo on it, but it is a delivery truck for a brewery.
