ParticipantI actually thought #3 was kinda ‘not’ themish; threw it in for evaluation purposes.
As for the other two, this may be where or why b/w seems more effective for this type of photography.
The cat pic is easy enough to convert to b/w; in the other session, I started early in color, but actually switched to b/w so I can’t directly flip it; but I have a not-so-perfect comparable shot.
Non of these images are really what I’m working with for the contest (close, though), but I’m trying to see what kind of boundaries we’re working in. FWIW, I have to agree with ennuipoet on the criteria/participation comment.

b/w also allows a bit more liberty in contrast refinements, IMO.

ParticipantCISS; I like the penny, too.
My two cents.
Get it?
//the hillarity continues. Drinks are still free for the entertainment. Fully taken advantage of, btw.

ParticipantOh-righty then! I have others from each of these that I think might play better; except Blert’s; I really would need to tape him to the floor…but I thought it was so cool how he ‘stopped’ the sunbeam (bigger is of course better, in this instance.)

ParticipantSo, looking through the archives I’m wondering if shots like these are along the lines of what the theme is about. I kinda think so, but just checking before I tape my cat to the floor in a more posed setting.

//IIRC, my ‘Crying’ image from “The Song Remains the Same” is in the ballpark?

ParticipantYeah it’s going to be IA, VA, or PA depending on jobs. CA is right out…
I suppose to be consistent we should consider GA, LA, MA, and WA too.
How did I miss this?
Ga, Ga, Ia, La, La-a
Pa, Pa, Ma, Wa, Wa-a
Ga, Ga, Ia, Ca, CaWant your bad romance…
//Here all night (rinks are free for the entertainment). Taking requests… 😀
On another note, I think if I’m as happy with my progress as I am, then you people are going to blow. me. away. The drinking and the scanning shall continue…

ParticipantWho did your makeup? It’s fabulous (and yes, I’m gay; it’s perfectly okay for me to notice such things and say such words as ‘fabulous’.)
Lovely little chapel, too.
What are the little green bottles with you and Orionid’s name on them for? And I noticed the ‘green’ theme–any significance in that in general? Or just a choice?
#754 has you two written all over it.
I like the wedding party shots taken from ‘on high’, and #960 as well (and 992, and 1017).
1119, 1133, 1143, esp. 1144, and 1162 you’d be remiss not to keep (but might crop the top), and 1197. Like all of these.
Did I mention congrats? Thanks for sharing the pictures; almost like I got to be there!

ParticipantGo for it. You are so creative, you’re bound to get votes! 😀
Why, what a nice thing to say! I believe I have two images I like well enough to use, maybe a third one, but the night is young (for someone who works nights and has this one off); we’ll see what I come up with.
But I’ll concur with everyone else–this has been a hoot! (And a challenge, as well). And I do have an idea I haven’t tried yet, for the tear-jerker votes (to be executing tonight; hope it pans out well.
I look forward to seeing everyone’s works.

ParticipantShocked, yes, but I would say more intrigued than repulsed. YMMV
ravnostic
ParticipantI’m proud of you.
I’d say that scanning something moving or moving the scanner is half the fun.
But I’ll bet that my stationary shot gets more votes…
Maisy sat still long enough to get scanned? 😯 😛
//I’m reminded of the Irfanview logo…

ParticipantI hate to prod, but with less than 20 days till our last scheduled theme starts, I’m getting jittery and developing (pardon the pun) a shudd[tt]er. Can we release a little flow from the hopper to ease my pain? Go the distance? Build it so I will come? Start farming in Iowa?
ravnostic
Participantp.s.; I can at least get a round tuit and scan my ancient print photos, I suppose. Some day. round tuits are hard to come by.

ParticipantOkay, so I gave in, sucked it up, and bought a damned brand new scanner. It has a depth of field of about 1.5″ from the surface up, which isn’t great, but is enough to do some 3-d object scanning.
I’ve been playing for a few hours now, and before I go too far–is it within the theme to do some artsy-fartsy type shots? In particular, does/do this/these three dimentional object/s have to be stationery? (stationary? too lazy to look it up.)
ravnostic
ParticipantThese are awesome. Wish I had bats. 🙁

ParticipantOkay, did a little testing before I went to work last night, 3 images compressed into one:

The bottom picture is the original, cropped to 300w x 200h pixels, and zoomed in to 900 x 600, for reference. The right one is that same piece, but resized with Canon’s DPP software. The left, resized with the Photozoom program, using the S-spline XL filter (which looked best of the filter options for this particular shot.
The shot was chosen because it’s a small object, not including the wings about 20 x 20 pixels. Since I shrank the lot of them (which were TIFF 16 bit images, btw), into a single jpeg, you lose some of the evident pixelation in the original, but it’s pretty evident that the Photozoom did a better job at the resizing insofar as keeping true to the original, which I think is the point (it actually seems a bit sharper than the original, to my eyes).
Anywho, there you have it. Since I’m not hurting financially at the moment, I think I’ll go ahead and drop the 30 bucks on the program.

ParticipantZ^0 and U, I quote Lois Lane, circa 1979 version, “If at all possible, he’ll be there.”
But I’m pretty much resigned to a ‘not happening’. Unless you happen to find a wallet, with a considerable chunk of change, that I misplaced/that got snatched/that I dropped on Memorial Day. Then I could at least rsvp.
