I’m stunned. My thoughts are with orionid and pangolyn‘s family. Horrible horrible news.

I went semi-serious with my entries this week. Sorry bout that.

Any of the Nikon D40, D5000, or your choiceof entry-level Canons should be OK in the long run. Err towards spending more money on lenses rather than camera bodies.

I urge you to go to a brick-and mortar store and actually handle brands you consider. Ergonomics in cameras is absolutely crucial. I’d also urge you to purchase at the local camera shop. You do want them to be around later, don’t you?

Indianapolis is another centrally located, reasonably priced city. We don’t live there, but it’s not too far a drive.

Another benefit to all is that *I* live here 🙂

Seriously, you can stay and party here for 75% of what you can in Chicago, and I’ve got the skinny on all the good shooting locations 🙂

Learn to use the SB-600 off-camera.

For off-camera work I use studio strobes.

I’m back…mostly because I had a pic already for this contest… I think the shadow in my pic tells the story more than the main subject.

Thanks all. I am feeling much better, although far from up and about. The docs at the hospital told me I was “a day from dead” and actually was in acute renal failure when I was admitted- all from the infection. See my flickr stream for my current status- (Warning, it’s not for the squeamish). I have a vacuum pump that applies continuous suction to the open wound on my back, and have suction tubes running over my shoulder. I feel a bit like the Borg.

I like all of them, but did find some criteria that let me cast a vote. I don’t want to post those thoughts until other people have voted. But I did want to note that I think those are some great shots and perfect subjects for B&W.

So give it up! What criteria?

I’m actually adding a little bit of that as I go along: see http://www.philjernphotos.com/memory-green/

I tried to get some variety into my entries this week. Looks like some other people did, too. I was kind of surprised at the number of cameras that were used as subjects 🙂

I’ve put many of you suggestions in place, and added a bunch more photos. Thanks for all the help!

    Limiting randomness…. what a concept 🙂

Actually, I have an index page that’s supposed to be generated, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Right now all I can do is get the site to default to the most recent image. When I get home Monday, I’ll try to put some more thought into that.

So, you’d prefer to land on an index page of thumbnails as the home page?

SilverStag could post a great shot that doesn’t get anywhere near enough attention, and so on and so on.

    Yeah, what’s up wit dat?
