ParticipantGlad everything worked out. The shots are really nice. Your “patrons” can’t have a single thing to complain about.
As far as not needing the telephoto… had you left it at home, you would have been shuffled to the back and needed it desperately. Not having been there, I can’t say that I would or would not have used it, but I always appreciate having the option. Even when I go to the stadium, if I drive, I bring my whole camera bag. I can keep it locked in the car until I go in, and you never actually know what’s going to happen.

ParticipantAre there any Farktographers in the Allegany area (extreme SW NY or NW PA)?
I’d love to do a meet and shoot when I visit the area in a couple weeks.
~20 years ago I’d have been all over that. I lived in Watertown for a couple years, less than 1/2 day’s drive. You’re not far from a lot of scenic beauty that only the locals seem to know about.
Allegany… not Adirondacks. We did the Adirondacks in late June. Drove right through Watertown.
Allegany’s more like Chataqua, Salamanca and Fredonia in NY and Erie PA.
Thanx for the thought, though… anyone else?

ParticipantI’m also on board with “bring the long lens.” There will be times when you’ll want it. Probably.
There will DEFINITELY be times you’ll want it if you don’t bring it.
Congrats on the gig. If you’re thinking of going into the biz, having the pix for the portfolio will be good, but having a good reference will be also. Also, have a website ready for your shots, so when people start talking to you, you’ll have someplace to send them. Even if it’s just a quicky blogger page, set it up for that reason alone.
FWIW – I sold my first baseball shots tonight. A guy I’ve been chummy with at the stadium wanted some shots of his favorite player, as well as one of Andy Pettite. I printed up 4 at Walmart (I’ve been remiss in addressing this, and I didn’t really want to lay out a bunch of cash up front), it cost me like $12.28 and he paid $30 for 3 of them. But… he wants a few more of a different player (he’s made friends with the guy’s girlfriend), as well as referring me to another fan who’s going to visit the blog and probably order a few… The Walmart prints came out pretty good for the price (and the speed couldn’t be beat… under 20 minutes from order to purchase). I know when I put together my kickstarter proposal I’m going to be looking at an on-line printer to ensure high quality and consistency, but it’s a decent start.

ParticipantI’m with you U-Man[/b}… I was walking the dog when all of a sudden I cursed and then made for home. Tardy also means they go in as a group.
Also… have I mentioned yet how much I am loving the new image limits? If not, well… I am… somebody please let Drew and the other Fark uberlords know how awesome it is…

ParticipantSkipping this week; have more important priorities; but I’ll stop in to see the awesomeness you all come up with.
So you’re telling me there’s a chance… 😮

ParticipantI’m not sure what else you’re packing to go with you, but when I went to Italy, I stuck my camera bag (small backpack-style) into the small duffel bag I used for the carry-on, which also allowed me to cram my tripod in and a couple books and a change or 2 of clothes. It fit in the overhead bin, but also under my feet. I may not have used all my equipment while I was there (there area few filters I haven’t used in years), but I was damn glad to have it, because I never once said “I wish I had my…” in relation to camera stuff.
If you’re intentionally going to somewhere to do some shooting, you’ll kick yourself at some point for not packing “X”. Unless there’s some other considerations I know nothing about (and there could be) and all your equipment normally travels in one not-too-huge bag, why you’d leave anything home is a mystery.
But that’s just me… we don’t have kids, and we almost never have to travel to visit family.

ParticipantI know what you mean, ‘cuda…. then I thought outside the box and now I just have to take the time to do the set-up and shoot. Something new was harder for me…

ParticipantJust pointing out this is a month and a half after “Old, New, Borrowed, Blue”. I also realize the photo contents are to be different, but the titles are close. I’m assuming most people will realize the difference, but I completely expect some ass-hat to, well… be an ass-hat about it when it goes live.
I’m good either way.

ParticipantBloody hell… I finally got the TF… it’s my freakin’ theme, and somehow I completely missed that it was Wednesday… well… a 3 a.m. post is better than sometime tomorrow…
(the day I’ve had… not going to bore anyone with it, but it was stressful and long… and then it rained and I left the Jeep top down… going to be sitting on a veritable pillow of towels to get to work tomorrow.)

ParticipantIt’s OK orionid… I’ve got the LCD projector the district gave me. As soon as I get a room with a smartboard, I’ll feel more comfortable pulling it out for personal usage (bulbs are >$200 and if I blow it, it’s on me).

ParticipantOrionid I pinged you on G+ earlier, but I’m getting a 1950’s Army Signal Corps 1000W opaque projector this weekend – someone’s giving it to me. All I had to do is pay $60 in shipping (sucker weighs 75 pounds with the case) and a $30 bulb off eBay
So if you want my dinky little $30 projector to play with, I’ll mail it to ya. You’ll need a 75W incandescent bulb (part of my problem is that I’ve been playin with a 60W)
If orionid doesn’t want it, I do. Let me know.
Last time I got to play with an opaque projector, my dad brought one home from school and I made a bunch of Bloom County shirts with some Sharpies. Wish I still had those…
(damn… that was a LONG time ago!)If orionid wants a slide projector instead, he can let me know. I’ve got one (a Kodak one, even!) sitting in the attic. The only reason I’d need it, I’ve got a slide scanner to deal with (showing slides in class) instead.

ParticipantSee ya later CauseISaidSo! Do you have/need an OBO?
Anytime someone gifts me TF I’m totally about paying the community back by doing OBOs, so I’m here to be used for the next 3 – 4 weeks.
Have fun on vacation, dude!

ParticipantI know ’92 doesn’t seem overly “old” and I’m assuming most photos will show off what we would actually consider “old” (30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, maybe some 70’s) but I had to decide on a cut-off and went with the definition of “classic” from my one year DJ-ing at college. There was a “Classic” entry we had to fill on our play-lists and it was defined as 20 years or older.
Also, I’m not exactly going to be a pain in the ass about policing “Old”… the voters can make up their own minds. People shouldn’t be posting pics of obviously newer cars, and I don’t think they will.

ParticipantLook at the registration sticker. Does it state a year before 1992? Then you may use it. If it does not, you may not.
If your state does not have the year of the vehicle on the registration sticker (NY does) then you should use your best judgement.
I hope that helps, Barracuda.
