ParticipantWell. I, uhh….. might uhhh…. be able to work with some of that.
This response confuzzles me.

ParticipantThe main thing that keeps me from schlepping it around always is that I have a Jeep. With a soft top, all you need to break in is an opposable thumb. I do manage to bring it more often than not, even if it doesn’t always get pulled out.

ParticipantWhen our shit comes out of storage, I’m seriously thinking about using my silkscreen to run out half a dozen t-shirts that say “PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT TERRORISM”
Got your design right here:

(Let me know if you go with this design… I’ll buy one)

ParticipantWhen I can, I do… Given the number of times I say “Dammit! I wish I had….” I’m beginning to reconsider the retiring of my old Olympus. At least I’d have something nicer than my cell phone with me.

ParticipantAnd by this point, anyone who hasn’t seen V for Vendetta needs to kick themselves in the junk then scrape their sorry asses off the floor and go buy it.
I’m with you… between V for Vendetta and Thank You for Smoking, you’ve pretty much got my political philosophy – aggressive libertarianism, with a side of anti-authoritarian cynicism.
Knowing that Fawkes was the inspiration doesn’t completely explain him, though. His meaning keeps changing over time. He used to be seen as a villain… now he’s become more the V character than Tim McVeigh. Such is history.
Nice pics, BTW.

ParticipantI hadn’t heard of Model Mayhem, but the idea I had (and haven’t yet followed through on) is to do a Craigslist ad: Amateur Photog looking for amateur Models willing to work for trade.
I did a little work with models when I took photography in high school. The models were from the cosmetology class, and the shoots were pretty informal, but I got a tiny bit of experience.
Somebody ’round here said they watch America’s Top Model mostly to learn how the photog interacts with the models… might not hurt to check out HULU or TLC or something for a few episodes for the same reason.
I think it’s incumbent upon you to have some idea of what you want to accomplish, as well as to let the models know you’re kinda new at this.

ParticipantSo we’re all on the same page, right?
Right. And cars are alive, right?
They consume, they excrete, they are mobile, modern ones even have brains that think
They still don’t reproduce though.
wanna bet?
Until I see little Smart cars waddling away, it didn’t happen.
How many nested quotes can we get?
At some point they’ll collapse in on themselves and form a black quote hole.
I wanna see that in a twisted kinda way 😈
A hole from which no substance can escape.
Past the point of no return.
Would it help if we divided by zero?
do
{
quote(last_post);
}
while (true);I’m dizzy now…thanks!
Just wait until Elsinore gets back.
So will the forum engine start line wrapping the earlier ones at some point?
Wheres my black quote hole?
Improbability passing 10,000 to 1. Passing 100,000 to 1. Passing 1,000,000 to 1. Approaching infinite improbability. Standby.
You know, it kind has that Mayan temple thing goin’ on now. Xtapolopacetl is pleased.
U-Man‘s original post is getting narrower, but not as quickly as I might have thought. Perhaps there’s a quantum effect in force.
Keep going, guys! I think if we compress the first quote enough, we might be able to finally discover the Higgs-Boson.
Oh good Lord.
/still playing along
I must get in on this experiment
*crunch*
3Well it would seem we are definitely all on the same page now! Question answered U-Man
Woohoo! U-Man’s text shrank.
I wonder if the next nested quote shrinks too.
I wonder what this stepped pyramid looks like in side-elevation…
Are you mad? The human mind can’t cope with that kind of horror!!!
Hope mrgreen doesn’t break the thread! This is too funny!
I’d say so, but I’m easily amused.
Simple things for simple minds?
Man, this is still going on,… Shouldn’t you people be out photographing something?
We are approaching the point not even light can escape!
I say we keep moving forward, beyond the event horizon
OK, serious question, though I am keeping the compression going: Can the part of the triptych be non-living? Lemme esplain…no, there is too much, let me sum up, My idea is a triptych close up on one hand fretting/playing guitar, the middle panel of the just the neck and strings no hands and the final trip being the fingers picking/strumming. Does this the inclusion of the center panel without organic matter rule this idea out?
I think you’d better post the question separately, because it’s gonna get buried in the hourglass thingy. 🙂
IMO, if the “subject” of the overall triptych is the guitar, and the hands are just an accessory, then it’s not valid.
*Edit to say: this hourglass should be the standard format of our forums from now on.
{Cheech voice} wow, this is a fuckin’ trip, man. 8)
My bad. =D
Although, I really don’t feel so bad. It’s great! It’s awesome! Would do business again!Heh, U-Man’s post got bigger & bolder with your post! 😆
Wow, that is some funky equation of state for forum quotes. When you compress them, they get bigger.
So has anybody played with the time domain for this thing? Go to page 7 (or any page where the pyramid constitutes most of the posts) and scroll up or down rapidly (I hold on to the scroll bar to do it best). Warning, not for epileptics, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, people with heat disease or back injuries.
That just gave me a headache…
+1
Feels like it’s getting SO CLOSE now…
My computer screen is 1366×768, and the last 2 quotes finally pushed the browser window to needing a lateral scroll bar.
The final question… when will the madness end?Yugoboy
ParticipantWhilst driving to work this morning I wondered at the definition of “retail”
All I’m looking for as a yes or no to the following, I’m not going to argue for them if it’s no:A) Banks (and credit unions, etc.)
B) Restaurants (and cafes, etc.)
C) Movie Theaters
D) Buildings where retail is contained within, but is not necessarily a “storefront” in it’s own right (think entrance to a “Street o’ Shops” kind of thing)I’m sure others will come up with other theme stretchers. It’s the time of year when, if I leave early for work, I’ll have time (and the ability) to combine night photography with this theme, and I’m just curious (not Curious) about whether or not certain locales will fit this theme.
Yugoboy
ParticipantNot that it matters a whole bunch, and saying “no”‘s easier than dealing with such a minor issue but…
Any chance we could maybe open up adding a few for like a day or 2? Maybe have a thread, toss ’em in there, and then if deemed SFW put into the Avatar library?
Just a thought, and I’ll understand if “No” is the answer…
Yugoboy
ParticipantHey, would a shirt with the words “METAL AS FUCK” on it be SFW? Or would I have to blur & link?
I can’t answer that question.
But I can ask one… where can I get that shirt?
want want want…

ParticipantCan we have a badge or decoder ring or press credentials or something issued by Farktography?
“It’s OK. I’m with the press.”
Funny… we had this discussion not long ago. It’s possible to get press credentials from some police departments as a “blogger” journalist.
Or, you could just print out this page and have it with you.

ParticipantUranus wrote:Yugoboy, ennuipoet – who says it has to be people?
Nobody.
If the difficulty stays, I’ve got a few critters running around my house as well as a yard full of plants, so I’d still be in, but there’s some stuff hanging around from the Urban Art contest I’d go back and re-shoot for this if they’re allowed.Just me being selfish…
Yugoboy
ParticipantI’m a bit happier with allowing inanimate, due to the fact that photographing the majority of the people I encounter on a daily basis requires a waiver (shooting my students might also be interpreted as a bit creepy).
Yugoboy
ParticipantI’m guessing that with the wide range of participants, and that most probably don’t come in here regularly, there’s a good chance that tolerance for a significant variety of interpretations will be necessary.
