ParticipantI might have to disagree with that. My Hawaiin experience is limited to a week in Maui, but the number and beauty of waterfalls there was astounding. True you’re limited to a single extinct volcano, but the mountains on Maui aren’t anything to sneeze at either.

ParticipantAwesome! A husband & wife photography team – two experts for the price of one. I’m sure you’ll both do fine, but good luck anyway!
[Edited to add:] orionid does realize that fire and explosions aren’t part of the normal wedding fare, right? 😉

ParticipantI just haven’t ‘felt the magic’ for several months. – I can totally understand that and I’ve only done 36 contests. I’d imagine after 189 contests, periods of feeling like that would be expected. Not to mention the times when real life interjects its interruptions and distractions.
re: Mopsy & Mr. Mopsy – Best wishes to them both and I agree – that is dedication!
re: Your A-game – Oh, I’m well aware of where I shake out when you bring your A-game. Nonetheless, it’s always good to see, so… bring it! 🙂

ParticipantLots of good stuff this week indeed, and congrats also to markie_farkie (does he come ’round these parts?)
I’ve updated the vote graph in my previous post to show the whole timeline. You’ll see we had a great Sat surge that pushed us past our previous best recent contest of Weather by 168 votes. That puts this one at #6 on the most voted contests ever.
It’s interesting that even with all of the votes, we only had one farktographer to break 100 votes total:
Rank UserName ContestVotes
----
1 orionid 101
2 Ranger Joe 95
3 swampa2 92
4 markie_farkie 89
5 kestrana 88
6 Haerski 88
7 takoyaki 84
8 plamadude30k 84
9 U-Man 83
10 Mopsy 80And finally, I hope y’all will indulge me in just a little celebration of my own: It’s obviously a reflection of voter whims and not talent, but it’s the talent of the photographers I’ve temporarily bested (stats-wise) that makes it special for me:
Rank Farktographer Recent Vote Total
----
1 orionid 888
2 BecauseISaidSo 739
3 U-Man 717
4 kestrana 694
5 Elsinore 656
6 Ranger Joe 641
7 ravnostic 582
8 Mopsy 539
9 Ennuipoet 537
10 olavf 512I don’t anticipate that lasting long, so U-Man, I’ll keep the spot warm for you. (You’re on your own for orionid‘s spot, though.) 😉

Participant– combining multiple exposures to create scenes that should not go together (something like a Magritte or Dali painting) kind of like this example.
That example combines two completely different scenes as far as I can tell (the child and the flowers/window pane). Is that still kosher? (I’m hoping the answer is yes, but I’d believed up til now that it wasn’t allowed unless all exposures were of the same scene.)

ParticipantNow didn’t you say you already had a heavy long lens that you hadn’t yet found the need to use?
I can certainly understand wanting to build one just for the coolness factor of the build itself, but I’m having a hard time coming up with anything other than possibly astrophotography that I’d feel strongly enough about photographing to want to haul 59 lbs of lens plus whatever the hefty tripods weigh to do so. Or at least not many things that I couldn’t just move closer to and use a lighter and shorter lens.

ParticipantYeah, well, that’s just, like, their opinion, man. Dang Nikon-liberal media always skewing things… 😉

Participant“Epic” feels like it might be starting to lose its meaning from overuse, so I won’t call it that, but we just exceeded our previous recent record holder of Weather:

We’ll have to see how it holds out against Sat night’s vote influx, but regardless, it’s going to be a pretty good one.
[Graph since updated to show final results]

ParticipantAlso, yes the Mauna Kea scopes have a lot to do with the fact that I’m headed out to Hawaii. I just got an offer from the graduate program at UH Manoa, and it looks pretty likely (not 100%, but pretty likely) that I’ll be spending the next 5-6 years there getting a Ph.D. (if all goes well).
Awesome! Congrats and best wishes, Plamadude30k. Well, maybe just pretty good wishes. The part of me that’s jealous of you getting to live and study in Hawaii is holding me back some. 😉

ParticipantSome bees here.
U-Man, seems we’ve got a good bit of overlap in our subjects tonight. I’ve also got a (clearly inferior) Skydeck shot in my bees; yours is awesome – must’ve been there during a slow time, there was quite the crowd when I was there. Also like your last arch shot.

ParticipantI planned to do the same for Tulsa, but Snowpacalypse 2011 pretty much put an end to that. The kids have been out of school for 5 days now and we’ve got another 6-10″ forecast for tonight/tomorrow.
So, it’s back to the archives for me and likely multiple destinations instead of just one.

ParticipantTry this link, Zero: http://oi53.tinypic.com/xfvyj7.jpg
It’s directly to the photo without all the surrounding tinypic code.Oh, and QueenBee, that’s a hilarious photo.

ParticipantHaving only seen the “iconic” photos of it, the first one is the only one that was recognizable to me without already knowing what I was looking at. That said, I like the third one, too. And as a two-fer, you could probably use a crop of any of the closer shots for the upcoming patterns contest.

ParticipantAlmost forgot to mention – Congrats to Elsinore on her 250th contest!

Participantnice to see stats. one thing stand out, total entrants and total entries isn’t a X times 3 equals thing.
Thanks, Curious. I hadn’t thought about it, but evidently it’s a pretty rare thing to always post 3. I just ran a query to check into that, and there are only 8 farktographers with 5 or more contests that have always posted 3 entries. Of those, 5 posted in 5 contests, 1 in 6, 1 in 7, and 1 in 35 contests.
The last one’s me. 😯 We’ll see how long that lasts…
