ParticipantU-Man, while I like teh funnay ones (and find them quite funny), it feels to me that the glass isn’t the focal point. I doubt the voters will care about that, but even without that consideration, I like #4.
rav, great minds and all, I guess, but I’ve got a really similar B to your last B. My one and only bee.

ParticipantBest wishes for a speedy recovery, Zero. If I had to choose from those you listed, I’d go with the mothership, nebula, and hurricane (or possibly 12-pt star). That’s based on posted sizes, though; I’d have to see them at contest sizes to be sure.

ParticipantLawton, OK. Yippee
My condolences. 😉 Actually, I’ve never been to that part of OK, but I’ve heard it’s not the most exciting of places. Too bad it’s about 3 hours from Tulsa or I’d offer to meet you & Kat for drinks (plus I’m sure you’ll be busy with family stuff).
But why don’t you just use your Canon backpack for the airline carryon? I’ve got the same one and that’s what I do.

ParticipantYou should try it – it’s fun! I converted a body cap to make mine, and used a piece of beer can and copious amounts of electrical tape to make the pinhole. I’ll get some links up this evening.
Your comment and loki‘s just made me realize that you’re talking about using a digital back. Weird to say, but that never occurred to me.
I’d always just associated pin-hole with film and with the turnaround time to get it developed between tweeks to the apparatus it sounded like a time-consuming process.
But with a digital back, that’d be something I might be able to squeeze in some time to try. I wonder if my local shop carries a cheap body cap…

ParticipantNot something I’d likely do myself, but I’d surely like to see everyone’s results.

ParticipantFYI, the entry by CpnObivous at 2011-03-24 12:11:18 PM is marked as 1/1000s exposure and EXIF bears this out.

ParticipantB-sides for this week are here.

ParticipantI’m leaning towards the second one, but I’m just not sure-which do you guys like better?
I think the first (B&W) is more dramatic, but I’d have to see them at contest size to be sure. The small size to which we’re constrained can really limit shot selection sometimes, IMHO.

ParticipantHey everyone, long time no see (virtually speaking). I’ve been on the road for 4 out of the past 5 weeks (3 on business, 1 on spring break vacation) and so have had very little time for the contests. The good news from a photography standpoint is that I’ve now got lots of new material for any future snow/mountain/winter-themed contests (went skiing on vacation), one of which will appear tonight. 😉
It’s good to be back home for a while (hopefully). Looking forward to tonight’s contest…
P.S. Congrats on your recent first 1st, plamadude30k!

ParticipantThere’s a sign at the security checkpoint that says the x-ray machines as safe for ISO 800 or less, but either way you can ask for a manual check of film.
I’ve always just sent my camera bag through x-ray (no film) and have never had any problems with it. They’ve never even opened it for a closer look.

Participantplama, love that Sandia shot.
U-Man, ditto for the frost and both oldies. If those are your B’s, you’ve got me worried…
zinc, that first B’s really cute.
Of course I can’t see y’alls A’s yet, but my proposed A’s are here and my B’s are here. Like a lot of you, I had a ton to chose from and had a hard time doing so, so any feedback on A’s vs B’s would be welcome.
The ducks in the B’s are the ones I shot for this contest, but like orionid I liked the archives better.

ParticipantI’d like to and have considered it, but…
Pfft..I barely have time to get something together for this site.
This.

ParticipantA week ago Thursday we set a record low of -12. Last Thursday we tied the record high of 79 for a temperature swing of 91 degrees in 8 days. About an hour north of here that swing was 110 degrees.
I got at least one new shot for this contest during the last snowfall and the other(s) will be from the archives.

ParticipantThanks, everyone. I’m more than a bit surprised by this one. The pseudo-IR thing was a fluke that came about from running out of time while trying to match skies between the moon close-ups and the zoomed-out shot used as the background. The zoom-ins were exposed for the moon so the surrounding sky was black while the zoomed-out was exposed for the sky which made it dark blue.

ParticipantWell, I’m a bit disappointed in how this one worked out for me, timing-wise. I had some ideas I was really looking forward to playing around with (especially since that kind of stuff is normally disallowed) and then found out mid-Monday that I needed to be in Minneapolis on Tuesday so play time was pretty much eliminated. I ended up with just a couple of hours and spent most of that on the eclipse entry. Oh, if only these contests paid the bills, eh?
