ParticipantI don’t know nuthin about ISO settings or stuff like that. I just make sure I get as far away from the dog in question and zoom in. The further away, the less blue-eye.

Participantnobody reads the boobies
Imagine how many pseudo-clever self-portraits there woulda been if we didn’t nix them in the contest intro.

ParticipantI saw “cityscapes” and, as usual, thinking much too literally, figured city skylines, of which I have none. But seeing what’s been posted I see the bigger picture, and not only do I have some stuff suitable for this subject, but probably a hundred. But by the time this dawned on me it was way too late to participate.
On the plus side, with the great turnout in both submissions and votes cast, I can’t imagine Farktography not re-doing this subject at a later date as a ‘classic’ subject, and that time I’ll be ready to go.

ParticipantI used a Sigma 70-300 in macro mode. It is nice to get the dust off. Maybe I’ll venture further than the boundries of my property (not big at all) and take more pictures later.
This is the lens I just got this week. Can’t wait to get to the track on Saturday and turn that bad boy loose.

ParticipantThe sports photography is motorsports, if there’s water involved that’s usually a bad thing.
I’ll pick up a polarizing filter and (assuming the lens shows up this week) I’ll give everything a good thorough test drive over the weekend.

Participantre we going to stand for this sort of blatant two-timing?
Uh oh I’m in trouble
Yeah I know I should be smart and save it for the appropriate Farktography subject down the road but I liked it too much to keep it under wraps.

ParticipantYou might be thinking too much of us to assume we’d look down on the Coolpix line. I have a couple big guns but I probably shoot more with my Coolpix 3.2 MP peashooter during the week than with the bigger equipment, and get just as good pics out of it (yeah they’re more snapshots than what I can get out of the big guys but they’re good snapshots).
Shot this one with the Coolpix during the tail end of a thunderstorm and I liked it so much I sent it into another site’s photo contest this month:

ParticipantBeen out of town for the last couple days and this is what you come up with.
I might be exposure #36 but I definitely want in.

ParticipantAlso, the alternate day of week contest sounds cool here, especially with the one entry limit.
Maybe even add another twist… like say the submitted pic must have been shot during the seven-day period immediately preceding the contest date.

ParticipantJust like you all to know the thread has already posted to the main page as of 8:10 PM. 8)
That sound you’re hearing is a hundred Fark Freebies cheering.
I was checking this forum on the Treo in the passenger seat of an 80 MPH Hyundai going from MD to NH when I saw that it already went green. Asked the missus to pull over in the next rest stop where I got the laptop out of the trunk. We get going again and I set the thing up, hook it to the Treo, get online, get to Fark, find my pic on my site, submit my sole entry and wipe my hands on my pants.
I say ‘there’ triumphantly and she wonders aloud whether I take this Farktography thing just a little too seriously.
FWIW I went against everything I stood for in the past and submitted a B&W pic. The shame!

ParticipantMy two cents
I vote yes on limiting submissions to one. Don’t sweat the voters, submit your absolute favorite pic on the subject and let the votes fall where they may.
I vote no on posting pics without enabling voting. This means second angle of original pic or fourth pic just because it was so good not to share with the world. Save it for a later contest, showoffs.

Participantunless you count the camera on my Treo 650. 640×480 goodness from that badboy.
Pics from the 650 (the wife has one) look like they came out of my D100 compared to the pics that come out of my Treo 600.

ParticipantEver since I started doing Farktography I’ve taught myself to never leave the house without a camera. I don’t usually take the big guns out if I’m just going to the post office, but I have a couple little cheapie Nikon Coolpix point-n-shooters I keep near the door so I can grab it on my way out. More often than not the only things I find worth photographing are Honda Civics with big stupid wings on the trunk, but occasionally find something that I might be able to use here somewhere down the road.
EDIT – FWIW I think I’m set for “backyard” and “doors”… “trash” I’ve got to go through some stuff to see if I have anything appropriate. As for “shadows”, I got nuthin but there’s time to work on that.

ParticipantOh it’s not like I’m not going to stop participating, Farktography is next best thing to racing season as far as getting me out with the camera and shooting something other than the average snapshot. I’m way over-camera’d considering my level of (cough) expertise (cough) but seeing what works in Farktography is getting me to close the gap.
Not that I’ve figured out what works in Farktography. My highest vote-getter is a pic that, to me, is pretty iffy in conception and merely adequate in execution. The ones I thought would be a big hit pretty much died on the vine.
On the other hand, that high vote-getter was one of the first posted by a Liter shortly after the contest hit the front page. It got me thinking that, for those of us vain enough to watch the vote counts, perhaps timing trumps photo quality?

ParticipantFinally got to check out the entries.
There is no way no how I could compete with you nuts this week with either concept or execution. I bow in your general direction.
