And I’m back after a 3.5 year absence with a decent performance.
FWIW I didn’t really pick a ‘best’. I went to my most recent ‘random photos’ gallery and picked my favorite. I’m not going to sweat entering three photos when one is usually only barely adequate in the first place.

July 4, 2009 at 8:02 am #23287ClaffParticipantDoes shiny shiny painted metal count? I’ve got a black car that cleans up fairly nicely and on a partly cloudy day nicely reflects the afternoon sky. I think the only shiny unpainted metal I have on hand is an aftermarket muffler, and that doesn’t make for good pictures.

September 9, 2008 at 9:41 pm #3878ClaffParticipantMy puppy picture didn’t come out half-bad.
August 11, 2008 at 7:06 pm #17610ClaffParticipantLess than nothing here!
July 28, 2008 at 5:49 pm #17327ClaffParticipantI’m pretty psyched, got 17 or 16 votes (depending on whether you’re looking at fark or FSM) for one entry this week and that’s my second- or third-best showing EVAR. And that’s the picture that temporarily disappeared sometime after I posted it and needed to be restored. Not bad for a snapshot.
July 25, 2008 at 3:00 pm #18021ClaffParticipantI just breathe on em and wipe em with my shirt.
It’s pretty liberating when you buy cheap stuff, you don’t get hung up on stuff like this.
For lens protection and maybe even some photo enhancement, consider picking up a filter to screw onto the front of the lens. If you scuff one of those up, it’s cheap money and 60 seconds to replace compared to having to replace the whole lens.
July 25, 2008 at 12:26 am #17317ClaffParticipantActually as it turns out, we didn’t catch it before, but you’ve used it for Pictures at an Exhibition as well as Simply Beautiful. So it wouldn’t have been eligible. But it is a nice shot 🙂
Who, me?
I can’t remember last week much less the last time I did farktography.
July 24, 2008 at 7:11 pm #17310ClaffParticipantMy first pic (the best of the bunch IMHO) somehow got whacked and I decided against my third after looking at it with fresh eyes just before posting. Welcome back, me.
July 24, 2008 at 7:10 pm #17362ClaffParticipantI’m allergic to cats. This contest will make my eyes water, my nose run, and my disposition to become just plain miserable.
July 23, 2008 at 9:54 pm #17277ClaffParticipantI will make a triumphant (?) return in this contest tomorrow morning
July 21, 2008 at 5:35 pm #17910ClaffParticipantlow bumper = Pontiac Grand Prix nose down under braking maybe? Although I didn’t hear squealing tires before the impact.
November 7, 2007 at 10:51 pm #14029ClaffParticipantAs few as possible. I try to think of myself as a photographic sniper – one shot, one kill. My usual shooting fodder – race cars, race car people, and small dogs – don’t usually allow me the luxury of “wait, let me try one more” so I make sure I get it as close to right the first time because I don’t often have the luxury of a second try.
October 24, 2007 at 9:21 pm #13953ClaffParticipantWe were in SoCal last weekend and had no idea the fires were as bad as they’ve become. Spent Thursday in La Jolla and it was gorgeous, no hint that this bad stuff was on the way. Sunday, before we had to go to the airport we went to Huntington Beach and got absolutely sandblasted down by the water. Didn’t realize that those wicked winds would be the worst thing possible during fire season, and also didn’t really realize that fire season was going on as we spoke.
