ParticipantRe: Sensor cleaning, in this day and age cameras without automatic sensor cleaning are obsolete.
so you’re going to buy me a replacement for my 13 month old Maxxum7D? sweet … 🙂

Participanti have this “super giant” blower. got it locally for <$20 and it works fine. here is a complete cleaning kit that is a bunch higher locally. didn’t get that since i wanted to try just the blower first. my personal experience is the blower does all i need. YMMV. here is a good article on sensor cleaning when this subject came up a while back i had a link to a video of a guy cleaning his camera sensor but can’t find it now. perhaps someone else has it.
histogram and WB i’ll pass on.
pretty much any semi high end photo manipulation program with see RAW and from there you can do all the things that you would using .jpg plus some. there are folks here who love RAW for the control it gives. you might also because of the many options to control the image in post processing. me. i’m not that finicky. plus you end up with huge files that have to be post processed before you can anything with them such as share them via flickr or email. also since the files are so large with some cameras the time to write to the card can be protracted. then again with a good DSLR capable of 3+ frames per second in continuous mode that usually isn’t a problem.

Participantwell that widens the choices somewhat. i’ve got one that is really more a park that a garden but it does have landscaping and various plants in it. and i’d be willing to bet no one else will have one of that particular place although i could be wrong.

Participantthen there are people like myself. i was trying to sell my photos at weekend fairs within a year or two of starting.
the paying public let me know it was too early Sad it was fun to do though and i did learn a bit about what folks like.
i was going through some old pictures today and found these 4 x 5 slides of one weekends endevour to sell some prints. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57055068@N00/ the “boards” the prints are displayed on was drywall. nice neutral gray and cheap.
that is an old school bus that i bought and converted. it was fun in it’s own way. and yes this was in the mid ’70s, why do you ask?

Participantthat’s why i have a dog.

Participanthow about a large garden like the ones at Versailles or the local ones that surround the museum or whatever. in other words it doesn’t have to be yard sized.
Curious
Participantglad to hear you got it swapped and it works well for you now.
Curious
Participantthanks, i was afraid of that. will do some more testing and see what happens. a new multi hundred dollar flash is out of the question right now.
Curious
Participantwell my preview worked but then i forgot to click submit so here’s a recap.
have three fuji point and shoot and they are good cameras. online reviews say that is a good camera also.
ergo you got a bad one. replace it.
Curious
Participantthanks for the invite Uranus but i don’t think i can get my passport renewed, plane tickets, get there and shot anything before wednesday night.
i did find a couple in the archives that are better than i’d thought. and maybe tuesday on the way home i can get some shots if i go via the rigolets bridge.
Curious
Participantso i was like all excited about this theme and then it was here and i was like no way i’m not ready and unless i can get some shots this afternoon it’s back to the archives. and while they are extensive they suck for this.
damn.

Participantok , my PS skills are crap but i do hang out in the PSAEF – and i have stayed at a holiday inn before so …
a good “O” has size. both in pixels and KB. to do a good cut out or to add an element you want the edge you’re working on as large as possible without it pixelating. if we do this we will have to link (or provide) our original photos. the ones that get sized down to 640 and <70KB for the contest are marginal for PS.
the photo should be sharp front to back -good DOF — because the more there is to work with the better the resulting PS entries. some folks use the foreground parts, some the back ground.
in general folks use the main subject of the “O” and play with/on it. but not always if there are more than one subject. in this case that may not apply. Ideally though, the image would be a changing foreground with a static background so that the photoshoppers are editing the same image.
while i like the idea i’m not sure how we would/could have a contest that would be part of our weekly series. would folks be voting for what they imagine the third frame to be? and to do what el chode wants means not restricting the entries to any particular rules as far as subject goes. so again how does one vote?
