It took me a looong time -years- before I felt confident enough to enter a contest.

then there are people like myself. i was trying to sell my photos at weekend fairs within a year or two of starting.

the paying public let me know it was too early 🙁 it was fun to do though and i did learn a bit about what folks like.

if i’ve learned anything in doing these contest it’s to shoot what you like, enter it and let the chips fall where they may. some of the ones i’ve liked the best did terribly and the ho-hum stuff got votes.

not the main page but clicking the articles or the comments produces crap results. if memory serves the main page is on one server and the go.fark stuff is all on another one.

i’m getting redirects to the main page from article links and timing out on the comments.

Is this a glitch or what?

schnee or Zeke can tell you for sure but i think it has to do with when the FSM grabs the data. basically it’s done when the contest is “over” which generally has been 48 hours after it posts. any votes after that don’t usually change the rankings but like you i’d like to have late votes counted also. votes are votes and those 6 could help your totals over time.

my guess is we’ll see a lot of those. while i feel it’s questionable also for this week i’m not going to be picky about how close anyone stays on theme. there’s a family down the street with one of those 4 light cluster replica things in their yard. i drove past it and didn’t take a picture. it’s got a real pretty rose that could have been included too. but it’s not in the street and not current to this local area even in the “historic” section of town.

but i wouldn’t complain if someone entered it or something similar. same goes for bollards. may be path lighting instead of streets but it’s artificial lighting for the sake of getting from here to there.

It’s funny that sometimes the one shot I think is killer never even surfaces in the voting, while one of my ‘backups’ runs off with the votes. I’m just sayin’ 🙂

    never seen that happen.

well not more than twice a month. i seem to have no grasp of what the voters want. and the voting results confirm that. but i’ll keep posting and hoping.

went through olde towne on the way home but wasn’t inspired. plus all i had with me was a point and shoot and it was 93 in the shade and no shade.

do have some shots that i like but will have to figure out which one is “best” in a little while.

good for you. shooting stuff for work always makes the day go better.

unless it’s shown to some pro who feels threatened and has to poor mouth your work to make his manhood feel better. but that only happened once.

thanks Elsinore, you wrote (almost word for word) what i was thinking but to lazy to post.

unless or until the link and boobies are automated what we have now is the best we can do. it’s the result of a lot of different folks input and a bunch of trial and error. and like any compromise it doesn’t suit everyone nor serve everyones goals.

XenPix you aren’t the only European who is unhappy nor the only Farktographer worldwide who wants a time more suitable to their local time zone. there are also the needs of Fark to consider and the TF time and the live time are, again, compromises arrived at with Drew. we hope you understand and will continue to enter. your photos may not get as many votes as you would like but they are appreciated by all of us.

QuickSilver by not having voting you get left out of the statistics. or at least some of them. to me it’s not worth it.

and just FYI i have pissed and moaned to the point of being a major pain re off theme. and not always that politely. all comments here are taken in the spirit of trying to help the contests be better.

the contests, being an open forum, unfortunately invite the stupid to post. anyone who can figure out how to host and post an entry should be able to read, understand and follow the theme and description. but since they can’t there are those who will give them some slack hoping that next time they will know better. also as noted there’s the whole what to do to an entry that already has votes. so you can see that the problem is compounded by the other dumb asses that also don’t read but vote.

yeah, it’s a sore spot with me too but i’ll get over it. 🙂

gee i’ve never had that happen.

    more than once a week.

last year we didn’t get much rain so this year we’re doubling up.

it has messed up more than one photo trip. and several setup i’ve been trying to do to use/test/check out the new extension tubes. that happened sunday and today due to scattered clouds. the kind that play hide and seek so when you’re in the house they’re gone but walk outside with the camera … clouds. i’ll know in a short while when i download the pictures taken before lunch if i got what i wanted or not.

do have some shots from last week that i have high hopes for but ,as usual, the voters will decide.

I saw there was no boobies but thought if I gave it twenty seconds then it should be fine and hit submit … whoops.

don’t know if you’ve run into it yet or not but fark has a “flood protection” filter that makes submitting the link and posting the boobies right together pretty much impossible. while 20 seconds should work it’s my personal experience that a minute is needed. sometimes more.

Elsinore no it’s cool. i wasn’t sure of we were still emailing Drew re the live time but i see it’s midnight. it appears that either the greenlight admin knows to do that or Mike automated it.

nice entries tonight. fairly wide selection which is nice.

didn’t use the machine from work since the shots didn’t turn out the way i wanted. they needed more set up or props than i had time for.

but i did manage to get shots for both next week and the week after on the way home today 🙂
