Finally, does someone want to explain what “manscaping” is. Do I want to know?

think creative shaving to body hair. especially in areas that are normally covered.

yeah i googled it too but won’t again.

well it would seem i have a lot to learn BUT here’s the first test of trying to make a contact sheet. used the 8 x10 film holder but didn’t set the scan size properly so it cropped some.

scanner came friday but i delayed setting it up until now. given that this scanner is really different than the last one it will be a while before i’m proficient with it. hell it will be a while until i’m beyond the basics.

thanks again for all your help.

i’ve done that with my 4×5 and it’s the shits. with that camera/lens however i usually had to use the roll film backs because the image moved off the 4×5 film too quickly. have no idea how or if that problem translates to 35mm.

Another thing that makes high magnification macros a lot easier is a focusing rail. This lets you move the camera forwards and back to focus instead of trying to adjust a tripod which isn’t really designed for very fine adjustments.

see my “bellows” link above. the problem i have with the focusing rail is not being able to get close and have adjustment room left. see frame #007. while the setup looks ok in frame #026 the lens front is actually pretty far back. granted i haven’t used that bellows in several years and had better success when it was being used more.

QuickSilver while these extension tubes aren’t cheap they are half the cost of a dedicated macro lens. they work in a similar fashion to a bellows but of course lack the variability.

BTW the extension tube link goes to ones for my camera, they are made in several different mounts.

and what staplermofo said about the tripod and general difficulty applies to any true macro shots. the DOF is really shallow and focus(ing) is a pain.

I wonder how many people are doing red staplers. I mean, they’re famous.

    my guess would be one.

    or at least one.

millera9 if it’s not too much trouble please check rates. but i’m wondering what events may be happening in either oct or nov. thanksgiving is probably out but other than that???

in my small town there are events one won’t normally notice that simply fill the local hotels. while that won’t happen in vegas there could be the some big convention that we might not know of that would keep rates high since the hotels could count on high occupancy.

personally i’d rather early oct but i really want to so this so the date isn’t that important. it would be nice if we could get this finalized this month so everyone could make their respective plans.

if it wasn’t clear before let me go on record as opposing avatars period.

besides being distracting if you have to have some picture for folks to relate to you then your POV isn’t well articulated. personally i want to know you by your work and your statements here. some lame visual representation by clip art really isn’t you.

nope you’ve got it wrong. Elsinore voted for each one. plus your three means only one vote from a true fan.

look that was tongue in cheek. wander over to the FSM and look at my vote totals. especially those at the bottom of the page. and i know there is at least one fan/friend who will vote for anything i enter. and i never vote for myself.

so the moral here is … relax. some weeks are better than others. yeah i know there are times the low count bothers me too. i don’t enter photos that i think are going to tank. but it happens.

i don’t know why yours didn’t do well but if i were to guess i’d say that they were b/w in a field of color and historically b/w is an acquired taste. and they were a bit on the dark side. again an acquired taste. it is my guess that the average voter is perhaps a good snapshot taker but no more skilled than that. they are looking for something that tells the story of the theme in a simple way. these are the folks who ask “did it come out” when talking about a picture.

OMGWTFBBQ and maybe LOL — i just read Elsinore’s post while previewing this. !!!!eleventy!!!

Man, I’m getting absolutely hosed this week…

ha ha im in ur contest stealling ur votes.

what where you telling me at one time about not concerning oneself with the voting 🙂

i’m actually doing better than i’d expected. one picture is coming in at 25th which is typical for me lately. all time it’s better than average but my long term average isn’t anything to brag on. my weird bug (in color) finished at a heart stopping 127th. but the b/w made up for that finishing 197th. liked both those better than the grasshopper which ended up 34th.

    you just never know.
