i have a website http://www.davesweblife.com/ that needs the galleries reworked. given the various time and project constraints i have flickr seemed an easier out. as my thousands of images are sorted the better ones will go up on flickr first and then onto my website when that is redone. got new web authoring software that i have to learn how to use before the website can be fixed.

it’s going to be fun to see how these get interpreted. and how clear they are. for instance does a shot of an urban youth and his bling go in envy or pride. or do we leave that to the viewer. and if it’s envy do we then disown the viewer?

i decided that, like comments on myspace, it might be misconstrued. way back when i was 18 i did something that came back to haunt me for years afterward. i also quit a job once and told them i was going to get drunk. not a smart thing to do.

if it was just you all reading these comments i’d have left it up but it’s the internets and one just doesn’t know who will see what you wrote.

just curious (with a little c) but does the “food” have to be at an edible state? a strawberry in the field is food ver.1 as would be a potato raw. how about a mr. potato head?

seems not too many liked my mincemeat pie. maybe i should have used professional food fluffers.

i predict this contest is going to be won by folks who are really good at setups. that or folks who will cook their food especially for the contest. it could be fun to see just how much you can enhance the food with tricks. the kind of stuff you see in the “making of a food ad” on the food network. some clear enamel spray to make it shinny. or a good car wax for your apple.

and once you’ve opened the tank only to find that the negatives were touching you try the practice thing with a roll of bad film and the reel in the light. first with your eyes open and then closed. over and over until you can do it in the dark 🙂

35 is easy because it’s fairly stiff and you can actually feel both the curvature you need and the wire that makes up the reel. 2 1/4 is a bit tricker.

oh and 4 x 5 is a snap. well unless you’re using a film pack. that stuff is really thin.

but once on the reel and in the can comes the fun part. agitating.

ok, i’ll quit agitating you all.

    yum .. brains

ok, it’s now pretty obvious i’m the odd man out here. and not just because it’s me against the women. while i would be the first to say that printing from film is great fun the act of developing a roll of film from the raw state to a usable negative is not one of life’s major joys. necessary yes, fun, not so much.

having said that i’ll fade into the background and leave you all to your enjoyment 🙂

i don’t vote until the next day. if you vote early it’s only fair to go back and look at the later entries and vote for them if one of them strikes your fancy. ergo, i wait and do it all at once.

standing with a developing can full of film and solution and gently turning it over for ten minutes is boring. sorry but it is.

yes the results are magical but still …

and Elsinore if you do start doing your own developing make sure the agitation is gentle. too much vigor will make for streaks next to the sprocket holes. and correcting those in the prints is a huge pain.

    Pentax ME

hope it worked better than windows ME.

although after you dropped it there are similarities. the leaking part

All this time I’ve been frightened and confused, but maybe developing isn’t so scary after all.

it’s not scary but it is boring. and if you leave it in too long the results are worse than what an overcooked meatloaf looks like. also note the mention of temp. temp can be real critical too. getting consistent negs is like anything else. know what you’re doing and practice, practice, practice. but, again like cooking, once mastered the rewards are great too.

yeah digital is great for most uses. i have some special close up stuff that can’t be replaced in digital w/o huge bucks. and the rest of the film equipment is either old manual focus or point and shot and wouldn’t bring enough. i do keep a film point and shoot in each of my digital camera bags just in case.

and no you can’t ask in case of what. let’s say aliens.

no ones has ever accused me of not having enough “stuff”. two digital camera bags with a total of three digital cameras and three film cameras and various accessories.
    http://www.davesweblife.com/images/stuff%20for%20friends/7D-vs-71-1.jpg

and yes i just took that. yes with another digital camera. the one that stays in the car. as opposed to the one that stays in the truck.

and i blame it all on fark and the farktography contest 🙂

    you’ve been warned.
